Al-Arabi faces key absences ahead of Challenge Cup semifinal second leg

Arab Times12-04-2025

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: Al-Arabi will be without key player Khalid Al-Murshid for its upcoming match against Turkmenistan's Arkadag next Wednesday in the second leg of the AFC Challenge Cup semi-final.
Al-Murshid picked up an injury during recent training and will not be part of coach Nasser Al-Shatti's plans for the match. Additionally, Badr Tariq will also miss the game due to injury.
The Al-Arabi delegation arrived in Turkmenistan last evening, led by board member Ismail Al-Habib, and will hold its first training session this evening.
Complicating travel plans, the Turkmenistan Civil Aviation Authority denied permission for the delegation to travel via a direct flight or private plane. As a result, Al-Arabi announced on its official "X" platform account that the team would travel to Turkmenistan via a connecting flight through Dubai, UAE, after the original plan was blocked.
The club also mentioned that it would explore the possibility of returning the team on a private plane for its return journey.
It's important to note that the Al-Arabi delegation was initially scheduled to depart Kuwait today on a private flight.
In the first leg of the semi-final at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium, Al-Arabi secured a 2-0 victory over Arkadag, with Nigerian forward Christopher John scoring the opening goal in the 71st minute, followed by Salman Al-Awadhi's strike in the third minute of stoppage time.

Al-Hilal land former Inter boss Inzaghi as new manager

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, June 5, (AP): Simone Inzaghi took over as head coach of Al-Hilal on Wednesday, a day after leaving Inter Milan and two weeks before the Saudi Arabian club's first game at the Club World Cup. Inzaghi signed a two-year deal after Al-Hilal lured him with an offer of reportedly more than 20 million euros ($23 million) per season. "The Italian genius is here,' the Saudi club said in a social media post. Inter was routed 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final last Saturday, marking the most lopsided defeat in the 70-year history of major European finals. The 49-year-old Inzaghi coached Inter to the Serie A title last year and was also in charge when the Nerazzurri lost the 2023 Champions League title to Manchester City. He was at Inter for four years.

Rare views of Al-Hala Island documented by Kuwaiti photographer

KUWAIT: Kuwaiti environmentalist and photographer Dr Abdullah Al-Zaidan has successfully observed and documented the rare natural phenomenon of Al-Hala Island, located in the southern part of Kuwaiti waters, specifically in the Al-Zour area. The island is a stunning and unusual natural feature. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday, Al-Zaidan explained that Al-Hala is a temporary sandbar that emerges during low tide and completely disappears during high tide. Its unique nature makes it a favored destination for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility. He added that the island's transformation is a key attraction, making it a prime spot for environmental marine tourism. Visitors are drawn to this nontraditional experience amid the clear waters of the Gulf, where they can engage with untouched nature far from pollution and urban development. Al-Hala Island Fish swim near the coral reefs in the waters surrounding Al-Hala Island. An endangered green turtle swims underwater at the island. Al-Zaidan emphasized that visiting Al-Hala Island helps raise environmental awareness and promotes sustainable tourism, which balances enjoyment with the preservation of natural ecosystems. Regarding the surrounding area, he noted that the Al-Zour coastline is ecologically significant due to minimal human activity and construction, making it a vital habitat. It hosts endangered green turtles, which come to nest and lay eggs during specific seasons, and it is home to vibrant coral reefs essential to marine biodiversity. The area also serves as a resting site for migratory and resident seabirds, which use the island as a natural stopover along the coast. Dr Al-Zaidan concluded by stressing the importance of protecting these fragile marine areas and encouraging mindful visits to help preserve marine life and ensure ecological balance for future generations. — KUNA
