Al Shabab defeat Seeb to lift maiden Super Cup title

MUSCAT, JULY 27 Al Shabab Club lifted their maiden Super Cup title on Saturday night following a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Seeb at Al Saada Sports Complex in Salalah. The curtain-raiser of the 2025/2026 football season concluded in a goalless draw in regular time before the penalty decider handed Al Shabab their first Super Cup trophy in club history. This victory also marked Al Shabab's second successive triumph over Seeb, having defeated them earlier this year in the prestigious HM Cup final on February 20 through a solitary goal by Badar al Alawi. In front of a packed stadium enjoying the cool khareef breeze at Al Saada Sports Stadium, both teams delivered an intense and competitive match but failed to convert their chances. Seeb held greater possession and created more opportunities through the lively trio of Ali al Busaidy, Arshad al Alawi, and Salah al Yahyaei, but their finishing let them down. Al Shabab, on the other hand, responded with counterattacks led by Jameel al Yahmadi and Mohammed al Ghafri, who also fell short in the final third. The match headed straight into penalties as Al Shabab maintained their composure as all five of their players including: Jonsen, Jameel al Yahmadi, Ahed al Mashakheyi, Badar al Alawi, and Yousef al Malki converted their spot kicks. Seeb successfully converted four penalties through Salah al Yahyaei, Abdullah Fawaz, Arshad al Alawi, and Mohammed al Musallami, but their returning striker Marwan Taeeb saw his effort denied by Al Shabab's goalkeeper Abdulmalik al Badri, sealing the title for Al Shabab. Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, chief guest presented medals and trophies to the winning team, coaching staff, and match officials in presence of Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Chairman of Oman Football Association (OFA), along with other dignitaries and football officials. Al Shabab head coach Hassan Rustam expressed his delight with the title of Super Cup title. ' We are very proud of this achievement despite limited preparation. The players managed to demonstrate great determination. After securing the HM Cup last season and winning the Super Cup, our fans ambitions have grown and we are targeting more silverware this season.' He ended Ahmed al Owaisi, Al Shabab club Chairman, praised the club's collective effort and vision. 'This success is a result of strategic planning, team spirit, and strong technical leadership. Winning both the HM Cup and Super Cup within less than a six month reflects our growing stature. The expectations from our fans are now higher, and we aim to compete strongly both domestically and regionally.' Oman newly appointed head coach, Carlos Queiroz, and his assisting team attended the match. He noted down several comments on the players who took part in the match. Al Shabab's historic triumph send a clear message as they are preparing for their upcoming domestic and continental campaigns, including their participation in the AFC Challenge Cup. The victory not only adds to their trophy cabinet but also set as a positive tone for the forthcoming events in the season ahead.

Al-Arabi lines up UAE friendlies ahead of crucial AFC clash

KUWAIT CITY, July 27: Al-Arabi is scheduled to play two friendly matches against UAE sides Hatta and Baniyas on July 31 and August 6, respectively, as part of its training camp in Abu Dhabi, which runs until August 8. The club is ramping up preparations for a crucial AFC Challenge Cup playoff match against Maldives' Maziya Sports on August 12. The game, which will determine a spot in the group stage, is set to take place at the Maldives National Football Stadium at 3:00 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, reports from Iraqi media suggest that Baghdad-based powerhouse Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (Air Force Club) has shown serious interest in signing Al-Arabi and Kuwait national team player Bandar Al-Salamah. An initial inquiry has been made, and the club has reportedly set a condition for preliminary approval before engaging in formal negotiations. If the deal materializes, Al-Salamah would become the first Kuwaiti footballer in the history of the Iraqi Premier League. Currently, Al-Salamah is absent from Al-Arabi's training camp as he continues a rehabilitation and treatment program in Dubai following a successful knee-cleaning procedure and protective support installation performed earlier this month in Kuwait. If the transfer goes through, Al-Salamah will be the second player to leave Al-Arabi this season, after defender Hassan Hamdan joined Jordanian club Al-Ahli earlier in July. Al-Arabi's Portuguese head coach Marco Alves has intensified training in anticipation of the Maziya match. Players recently completed morning workouts at the camp's fitness center, followed by evening sessions on the field. Kuwait Club continues its daily training under Montenegrin coach Nebojsa Jovovic in preparation for the 2024-25 Zain Premier League season, which kicks off on September 12. The team will soon depart for a 20-day training camp in Prague, Czech Republic, which will include four friendly matches. In the domestic transfer market, Qadsia and Kuwait national team defender Yousef Al-Haqqan is reportedly close to joining Salmiya for the upcoming season. Salmiya's training sessions have already seen the arrival of new Jordanian signing Hossam Abu Dhahab. In a related development, former Salmiya head coach Ante Miša bid farewell to players before the start of a recent training session.

Ahmad Hayel joins Al-Arabi camp in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, July 26: Al-Arabi has officially kicked off its overseas training camp in Abu Dhabi, UAE, ahead of a crucial phase in its season preparations. The camp, which runs until August 8, includes two friendly fixtures—against Hatta on July 31 and Baniyas in early August. Jordanian assistant coach Ahmad Hayel and Ugandan defender Kenneth Semakula joined the squad earlier this week to reinforce the technical and player lineup. Following the conclusion of the Abu Dhabi camp, Al-Arabi will travel to the Maldives on August 8 to face Maziya Sports Club in a decisive AFC Challenge Cup playoff match scheduled for August 12 at 3:00 PM (local time) at the National Football Stadium. The winner will advance to the group stage of the competition. This camp represents the second stage of Al-Arabi's preseason program, after launching the first phase of training last week under Portuguese head coach Marco Alves, with the majority of players present. Al-Arabi has secured four new foreign signings: French-Guinean Hassimi Fadiga, Ugandan Kenneth Semakula, and Nigerian duo Ayano Iwala and Christopher John. The club is also in talks to finalize the fifth foreign player spot. Additionally, local talents Hamad Al-Harbi and Aziz Nassari have joined the squad. Club media coordinator Mishaal Al-Abkal confirmed that all logistical arrangements are progressing smoothly. He noted that the team has been holding daily training sessions, with morning workouts indoors and evening sessions on an outdoor pitch.
