Chance the Rapper returns with first new album since 2019

What they're saying: Chance spoke about making new music at an intimate album listening party at the Adler Planetarium on Thursday as part of Airbnb experiences during Lollapalooza weekend.
"The most challenging part was probably just life," Chance said. "We have so many different things that we got to do, and different roles that we got to play, not just to keep ourselves alive, but also to be a team player for other people in your life."
Context: Chance arrived on the national scene with his 2016 debut album "Coloring Book," for which he won the Grammy for Best Rap Album.
The album was the first streaming-only album to win a Grammy.
Chance has resisted the lure of major record labels, staying independent and releasing music on his own.

"I want people to understand me," Chance said about the new album. "Some people make it because they want to be heard or seen. Even if you don't necessarily agree with me, I want to be understood."

Sterling K Brown Chooses Black Women As Love Interests
Sterling K. Brown knows the importance of representation. In an interview with Refinery29, the Emmy-winning star spoke candidly about regularly having Black women play his love interests — a decision he says is very intentional. Sterling has appeared in over 70 TV and movie projects — and often with a Black love interest by his side — whether that's Susan Kelechi Watson in This Is Us or Teri Rogers-Collins in Paradise. When asked whether he makes those casting decisions "consciously," Sterling confirmed he does. "I'm aware of the sort of Eurocentric standards of beauty that tend to predominate media," he explained. "Light-skin oftentimes is seen as more beautiful than dark-skin, etc. and Brown wants to be someone that sort of shows all of the beauty that is Blackness, right?" He continued, "Brown don't discriminate, to be perfectly honest with you. I understand the power of representation and how often Black women seem to feel unseen by Black men, in particular. And there's so many sisters that are waiting for brothers to be like, 'Hey, man, I'm here for you and whatnot.' And brothers sometimes don't tend to see them." Sterling, who's married IRL to fellow actor Ryan Michelle Bathe, said he's hoping to change that narrative through his casting choices. "I want them to know that SKB sees them," he explained, "and hopefully in the people that he chooses to be paired with onscreen or whatnot, there's an appreciation for them and that they know that they are as beautiful as I know they are." Sterling's comments were met with widespread praise online, with many commending him for using his platform to uplift Black women in such an intentional way. Singer Jessie J hospitalized with an infection: 'Finding it hard to breathe in'
Jessie J is facing another health challenge. The 37-year-old singer, who underwent surgery for breast cancer six weeks ago, was hospitalized with an infection, she shared in a series of Instagram stories on Sunday, Aug. 3. Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, said she has "a little fluid on my lungs," and although doctors "ran a lot of tests," she is "still trying to figure out" what kind of infection she has. Her symptoms pointed towards a blood clot on her lung, but this was determined to not be the case. "Finding it hard to breathe in, but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient," she added. The Instagram stories included a photo from what appeared to be a hospital bed showing Jessie J's arm with an IV in it. "How I spent the last 24 hours," she wrote on the picture. Jessie J shares positive update after breast cancer surgery The update comes after Jessie J announced in June that she had been diagnosed with "early" breast cancer. At the time, she told fans she had been in and out of tests, and she later underwent surgery. In July, the "No Secrets" singer announced she had received results indicating the cancer had not spread, though she said she still had "lots of healing to go" and needed to undergo another surgery.
