Haryana CET 2025 begins today amid tight security, schools closed
This year, around 13.48 lakh candidates are eligible to appear in the examination. The test will be held at 834 centres across the state.
The Haryana government has taken various precautionary measures to conduct the recruitment test in a free and fair manner. Schools in the state will remain closed today.
The Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur issued necessary instructions to senior police officers in all districts, including imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 163 (power to issue orders in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. This will be enforced within a 500 metre radius of all examination centres.

Vehicle parking will not be allowed within a 200 metre radius of the examination centres. Photocopy and printing shops near the centres have been ordered to remain closed.
Kapur appealed to the residents, candidates, and their guardians to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activity by dialling '112' emergency helpline or the local police.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday conducted a review meeting for the CET examination. He urged the general public "to avoid unnecessary travel on July 26 and 27, the days of the CET examination, in order to maintain a smooth and uninterrupted traffic system, thereby facilitating hassle-free movement for the candidates
The Haryana CET examination will have 100 questions and 100 marks. The exam will last for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Following the examination, HSSC will release the provisional answer keys and invite objections from candidates.

CET Cell notifies new guidelines for international quota admissions
The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell on July 25 launched a dedicated web portal for the admission of international category students, including Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWGC), and Foreign Nationals (FNS), for the academic year 2025-26. All recognised universities, colleges, and institutes offering seats under NRI and supernumerary quotas have been directed to strictly follow the new process. (Sanchit Khanna/HT PHOTO) Following an amendment to the definition of NRI under a new ordinance, effective from June 25, authorities have revised the eligibility criteria and documentation process for NRI quota admissions. Under the new definition, NRIs include individuals classified as 'not ordinarily resident' under the Income Tax Act and those possessing an NRI certificate issued by an Indian Mission abroad. Their children or wards are covered under this category. The newly-launched admission portal, will centralise applications for international category students seeking admission to technical, medical, higher education, and fine arts programmes across Maharashtra. All recognised universities, colleges, and institutes offering seats under NRI and supernumerary quotas have been directed to strictly follow the new process. Institutions will receive unique login credentials to access student applications, verify eligibility, and publish merit-based admission lists. Admission will be finalised only after fee payment in USD, physical verification of original documents, and confirmation through the portal. Candidates can receive multiple offers but are allowed to confirm only one seat. Failure to pay within deadlines will result in cancellation of the allotted seat. The CET Cell will issue provisional eligibility certificates (PECs) to eligible candidates to support visa applications. However, final admission will be subject to document verification by the concerned institute. Colleges are also required to assist admitted students in completing immigration formalities within 14 days of joining, and to ensure uploading of required medical reports, residential proof, and accommodation details. 'The CET Cell has launched a portal for the registration of 'Foreign National' candidates, and has provided a link for registration. From this year, candidates who were born outside India and whose parents reside in a foreign country will be considered under the NRI category. The definition of NRI has been revised accordingly. As per the new criteria, the candidate must be born outside India and their parents must be currently living abroad. This is now a mandatory rule,' said Jayant Patil, OSD, CET Cell. He further said that in the previous years, some candidates were granted admission under the 'Foreign National' category by naming their relatives living abroad as dependents. This provision has now been strictly discontinued. For registration, candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of $50. Once registered, the candidate will be sent an offer for admission. To confirm the admission, a further fee of $1,150 must be paid. 'Earlier, it was observed that some candidates who did not score well in the CET exam would still gain admission to top institutions like COEP by applying through the 'Foreign National' route. This practice will now be completely stopped,' said Patil.

Detainees being released, but crackdown on ‘illegal immigrants' continues in Gurugram
In a major crackdown, the Gurugram police have detained individuals for allegedly staying in the city without valid documents as part of a special drive being carried out in adherence to orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs to identify and deport 'illegal immigrants'. Over the past week, hundreds of suspected 'illegal immigrants' were reportedly sent to detention centres for verification of documents. However, the drive has drawn widespread criticism over the alleged harassment of detainees and targeting of Bengali-speaking migrant workers from Assam and West Bengal. A visit on Sunday (July 27, 2025) to the special holding centres designated by the district administration showed that many detainees were being released. The special holding centre in Gurugram's Sector 10A, a dimly-lit hall at a community centre, stood empty with only a pile of carpets and a few packets of 'pav (bread)' lying in a dark corner. 'There were around 70 Bengali-speaking people kept in this room three days ago. Most of them were from Assam and West Bengal. They were all kept locked inside this room with four policemen keeping guard outside. But they were all let off two days ago,' said Krishna, the security guard at the community centre. Pritam, the lone sanitation worker at the centre, recalled struggling to keep the premises clean with numerous detainees sharing a single toilet. 'It's good that they have gone. The police personnel have also left. I hope they won't return,' he said. Three other such centres have been set up in Gurugram's Sector 40, Manesar's Sector 1, and Badshahpur to detain Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya refugees found to be staying illegally in the country. The holding centre at Manesar is also currently empty. According to the security guard, 35 of the 45 detainees were released by the police a couple of days ago, while 10 were taken away in a police vehicle. A constable deployed at the centre said despite the reduced number of detainees, 10 police personnel remained deployed there. 'The holding centre has not been shut. No fresh raids are being carried out as the police are busy holding the two-day Common Eligibility Test across the State. More detainees could come tomorrow (Monday) morning,' said the constable from the Pataudi police station. He added that he was part of the team conducting raids to identify and apprehend 'illegal immigrants', but declined to be identified. 'Special teams have been constituted in each police station to hold the raids, which are mostly conducted in the early hours of the day. The raids have been going on for the past 20 days, but these centres were set up a week ago,' he said. At the centre in Gurugram's Sector 40, several policemen were found playing cards and they said there was currently only one detainee. 'We are here as more detainees could come,' one of them said. Gurugram Police spokesperson Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar confirmed that the drive was still ongoing and suspects would be brought to the holding centres for further probe. 'Only those suspected of staying illegally in the country are brought to these centres. Those without identity documents or found making calls to Bangladesh, raising suspicion, are detained for further investigation,' he said. Basra, a 50-year-old meat shop owner in Chakkarpur's 'Macchi Mandi', said there have been no fresh police raids in the area over the past two days. 'The police teams came two or three times last week to check documents, but there have been no raids now,' he said. Meanwhile, Nuh MLA and former Haryana Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed condemned the treatment of migrant workers from Assam and West Bengal, mostly Muslims, during the verification drive, calling it 'inhuman, shameful, and unfortunate'. Mr. Ahmed alleged that the drive was creating an environment of fear, forcing people to flee Gurugram. Drawing a parallel with the treatment of non-Marathi speakers in Maharashtra, he claimed the Gurugram police were similarly targeting citizens in Haryana. He added that he has brought this matter to the attention of the State Director General of Police.

CET conducted smoothly across Haryana; officials, volunteers praised for support
1 2 Chandigarh: The two-day Common Eligibility Test (CET) organised by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) concluded smoothly on Sunday. More than 90% of candidates appeared at around 3,000 examination centres set up across the state in coordination with the district administration and the education department. The seamless conduct of the exam, with hardly any incidents of unfair means or candidate harassment, marked the first major success of the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government in its third term. Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini praised the coordinated efforts of officers and employees across Haryana, stating that the CET set a perfect example of efficient administration. "The smooth and efficient conduct of the CET was made possible due to teamwork," he said while interacting with reporters in Panchkula. From public transport arrangements by Haryana Roadways and shuttle services, to facilitation by police personnel at and around exam centres, officials worked in unison. Like Saturday, HSSC chairman Himmat Singh and transport minister Anil Vij conducted first-hand inspections of arrangements at centres and bus depots, and interacted with students. At several centres, police personnel acted as Samaritans. "We are compiling a list of such Samaritans -- officials and employees who went beyond their duties to help candidates. We will not only recognise their service but also recommend that the state government honour them," said Himmat Singh, who lauded the dedication of those on duty. In Kaithal, the Vaishno Sewa Samiti set up camps outside RKSD College, Jat College, and Government School at Jakholi Adda, offering tea, water, and food. They also provided tents, chairs, coolers, and fans to ensure comfort for visitors. In Karnal, Nilokheri SDM Ashok Kumar set an inspiring example when a candidate, Renu Devi, was injured in a motorcycle accident on route to the exam. The SDM ensured she received first aid and personally drove her to the exam centre, enabling her to take the test. Renu Devi and her husband expressed heartfelt gratitude to the SDM and the Karnal district administration. In Narnaul and Mahendragarh, CET-2025 witnessed a heartwarming display of compassion as volunteers from the District Red Cross Society assisted hundreds of candidates, especially Persons with Disabilities (PwD), at exam centres.
