Rickie Fowler thrilled with Open Championship ticket as he silences critics' taunts
Popular American buzzing for Royal Portrush after super show at The Memorial Resurgent Rickie Fowler is thrilled to be going The Open having jammed criticism down the throats of snipers. The Californian star's top 10 finish behind winner Scottie Scheffler at The Memorial earned him a place in July's 153rd Championship at Royal Portrush. Fowler finished tied-sixth at the Northern Irish venue six years ago as Shane Lowry strode to success and now gets a chance to return having fought his way through struggles and qualified the hard way. The 36-year-old can't wait to get across the Atlantic and said: 'We're heading the right way. This week still could have been a lot better, but a definite positive is going over to Portrush. That's one I've wanted on the schedule. I had a great time when we were there the last and had a decent showing as well. Links golf's my favourite. "Portrush is a great spot, so excited for that opportunity. I knew top 10 (would be enough). That was obviously what I needed. Like I said, I left a lot out there and could have played a lot better, but still a nice step in the right direction.' Fowler's efforts were payback for the faith shown in him by the backers of The Memorial, Workday. Due to his slump in the rankings, the American star has not qualified for signature events this season in the States and been forced to rely on invites. His popularity means he always seems to get a pick along with Jordan Spieth, but that has drawn criticism over the meritocracy of the system to make such events. However, Fowler answered the sniping at Muirfield Village and said: 'With the position I've been in, not having played well and not being in these elevated events and having to hope and pray for sponsor invites, definitely very thankful to Workday and everyone involved with the tournament giving me the opportunity here. "And then not being in the majors. I've been thinking about that at times. I'm in a lot better spot now versus earlier in the year or going into where I was last year. I've been fighting hard and putting a lot of work in and trying to stay as patient as possible. I'm starting to finally see some good things and that work starts to pay off. So I'm excited for tournaments heading up.' Having secured his place at Portrush, Fowler's next task is to try to earn his spot in the US Open at Oakmont. He is in Monday qualifying as he looks to make it an Open double and said: 'Long day, hopefully we saved all the putts because nothing went in or wanted to go in Sunday. Let's see if we can play some solid golf and go get ourselves a tee time at Oakmont and go from there.'

New Rangers spot, Walters Bar, to open soon in Rutherglen
Walter's Bar will take over the premises of the former Gorman's Bar at 33 Queen Street in Rutherglen. The upcoming venue promises to be more than just a traditional pub—it aims to become a hub for Rangers supporters and a celebration of the club's history. READ MORE: Ibrox legend spotted partying at popular Glasgow Rangers bar The official social media account for the bar teased the launch with a bold message: "Something's coming to Rutherglen… "Loud. Loyal. Unapologetically blue. "This isn't just a pub – it's a movement. "Walter's Bar is on its way, and we're not here to whisper about it. We're here to make noise." Excited fans flooded the comments with enthusiasm. One wrote: "Here we go yaaaaas,' while another added: 'This is fantastic news, made my night hearing this tonight.' A third simply said: 'Buzzing.' The announcement quickly gained traction after being shared by the popular Rangers fan page Ibrox Radio, which boasts over 40,000 followers. Within hours, the post had attracted more than 70 comments filled with anticipation. While the bar's official inspiration hasn't been confirmed, it is believed that Walter's Bar is named in tribute to legendary former Rangers manager, the late Walter Smith. Smith took charge of Rangers in 1991, succeeding Graeme Souness, and led the club to unprecedented success, winning 13 major trophies in seven years, including seven consecutive league titles. After a spell managing the Scotland national team, where he notably lifted them 70 places in the FIFA World Rankings, Smith returned to Rangers in 2007 and added eight more trophies to his collection. READ MORE: Walter Smith: The boyhood Rangers fan from Carmyle who became the King of Ibrox He guided the team to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final before retiring in 2011. Walter Smith remains the second-most successful manager in Rangers' history, behind only Bill Struth, and is deeply revered by fans across generations. Walter's Bar is expected to become a gathering place that honours his legacy while offering a new home for passionate Rangers supporters in the heart of Rutherglen.

SPFL club axe manager's BROTHER in shock move as they appoint new assistant boss
BRO GOES SPFL club axe manager's BROTHER in shock move as they appoint new assistant boss Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROSS COUNTY have confirmed manager Don Cowie will be remaining in post despite their relegation. But TWO of his trusted right hand men are on their way out - including his own BROTHER. After steering the Staggies to safety via the play-offs, the former Scotland international landed the role on a permanent basis. However, County once again fell into the play-offs and this time it proved to be their downfall. They were dumped 5-3 on aggregate by Championship runners-up Livingston and had their six-year top flight stay brought to an end. Despite going down, County are sticking with Cowie as boss. But change is coming at the Global Energy Stadium. Cowie's assistant Carl Tremarco has left the club and so too has first team coach Paul Cowie. The latter's exit will no doubt sting a little more for boss Don, with Paul being his brother. Paul Cowie left his role as Dundee United's academy manager to take the assistant role at Ross County. But less than a year later, he's out of the job. Shocking moment yobs brawl in Dingwall street before Ross County vs Livingston play-off clash With Tremarco and Cowie having left, the Staggies have brought in John Robertson as the club's new assistant manager. The 60-year old returns to the club having previously had a short stint as Ross County manager back in 2005. He was only in charge for four months before leaving by mutual consent in September that year. Hearts legend Robertson more famously had two spells in charge of Highland rivals Inverness CT, between 2002 and 2004 and then again from 2017 until 2021. A Ross County statement read: "Last week's result against Livingston - resulting in us playing in the Championship next season - has left everyone at the club, personally and collectively, hugely disappointed. We know how much playing Premiership football matters to our community, and we share their deep frustration at how the season concluded. "As you might imagine, we have done a lot of soul searching at the club over the last week, and following that, have decided to restructure our football management team under Don Cowie as we make gaining immediate promotion our sole focus. "We believe strongly that we have a dedicated and talented manager in Don and that he is the right man to lead us for the season ahead. "To support Don, we have appointed the experienced John Robertson as assistant manager with immediate effect. Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie will leave the club, and we thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future. "John has more than 400 games under his belt as a manager, knows the challenge of recruiting from our base in the Highlands, has experience of the Scottish Championship, and has worked with Don in the past. He already knows the club well and has spent much of last season watching from the sidelines in his role as a BBC pundit." Chief executive Steven Ferguson added: "Everyone at the club is determined to put us in the best position possible to gain promotion back into the Premiership - and to do so within a season. Bringing John in to support Don, will allow us to reshape the playing squad and turn things around as quickly as possible." More to follow...
