Liverpool 'eyeing shock £100m move for boyhood fan from Premier League rival as champions look to continue summer spending spree'
Liverpool are reportedly considering making another big money move, this time for a player from a Premier League rival. The Reds have already been very active this summer, agreeing a record-breaking deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. The Germany star will complete a switch to the Premier League champions for a club-record £100m, which could rise to a British-record £116m, after turning down Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. Arne Slot 's side have already signed Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for £29m and Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5m. And they have now set their sights on a high-profile winger, according to The Sun. Newcastle star Anthony Gordon is said to be high on their wishlist following talks last summer. The Magpies were in a bad financial situation back then but find themselves in better shape after securing Champions League football next term. Gordon is a boyhood Liverpool fan and a move to the team he grew up supporting may be enticing, especially after a season in which they ran away with the title. He signed a new contract last October and managed six goal and six assists in the top flight in the 2024-25 campaign. The interest in 24-year-old Gordon comes with uncertainty over the future of Luis Diaz. The Colombian says he is happy at Anfield but revealed he could explore other opportunities this summer — with interest from LaLiga giants Barcelona.

The key Celtic appointment made by Brendan Rodgers who Shay Given rates highly
Premier League legend Given worked with him at Newcastle United His name is often mistaken for an A-list celebrity. And Shay Given joked his old pal Adam Sadler is going all Hollywood these days. The Celtic first-team coach - not to be confused with funnyman Adam Sandler - arrived at Parkhead in 2023 after spells with Newcastle, Manchester City and Leicester. Sadler was reunited with Brendan Rodgers at Lennoxtown, having previously worked alongside him at the King Power Stadium. But years earlier, he was Premier League legend Given's goalkeeping coach at St James' Park. And despite touching down in Glasgow for a rare visit, Given revealed he was blanked by the Geordie - although he insists the Hoops have a real gem behind the scenes. The Irishman laughed: "I know him well. I texted him today for a coffee, but he said he's moving, he's too busy for me! "He's gone all big-time now. Adam was my goalie coach at Newcastle so we go back a long way. "But even then, he wanted to do outfield coaching. He's a big Geordie and Brendan worked with him at Leicester. "I think he's brilliant with the lads, he has a nice way about him. Jovial at times but serious when he needs to be. "I think he's a brilliant coach and a great lad." Liverpool target £45m Newcastle United star after agreeing Florian Wirtz deal
Liverpool are considering a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, according to reports. The Premier League champions are finally set to complete their deal to sign Florian Wirtz after agreeing a £116 million deal with Bayer Leverkusen this week. However, The Sun reports that Liverpool are planning for further signings and are weighing up whether to revive a move for Gordon. Arne Slot's side attempted to sign the England international from Newcastle last summer but were unable to reach an agreement. Gordon, who joined Newcastle in a £45m deal from Everton in January 2023, scored six goals and registered five assists in the Premier League this season. The 24-year-old could be viewed as a possible replacement for Luis Diaz, who is Barcelona's top target to strengthen their attack. When asked about his links with a move to Liverpool last summer, Gordon made it clear that he was happy at Newcastle. More Trending 'There's been a lot of talk this year about my future, where I'm going, where I want to go, without anyone actually asking me,' Gordon said in December. 'Just leave me to play football. I just want to be happy, play football and I love it here. I've said it plenty of times. 'I think with the speculation, people assume that it's correct, but you've never heard from me once that I'm unhappy at his place. I love everyone here, I love playing football here, and that was all that was. 'It took me away from enjoying my football this year and I think that is where the inconsistency has come from because I've got caught in that a little bit. But I just want to play football, especially for Newcastle.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
