Adult Swim, Cartoon Network Studios, Sneak Peek Genndy Tartakovsky's ‘Heist Safari'

The Adult Animation Spotlight panel between Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim at Annecy Animation Festival summarized a number of titles in the overlap between the two studios, including the Anderson Entertainment collaboration 'Hit Squad.'
The presentation was lead by Peter Girardi, EVP of Alternative Programming at Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen.

The highlight of the session, however, turned on discussion of 'Heist Safari,' an animated action comedy from director Genndy Tartakovsky, who also attended the festival with his first feature, 'Fixed,' s Sony Pictures Animation movie acquired by Netflix.
Tartavoksky had pitched 'Heist Safari' live at last year's edition of the festival to Ouweleen. During this spotlight panel, the pair shed a little more light on the new series from the 'Samurai Jack' creator, adding a few more details of the series, which follows three frogs, all brothers, as they attempt to rob a bank.
Ouweleen reminded the room of the event last year, and jokingly called it a 'hostage situation' as the two optioned the title in an Adult Swim presentation at Annecy 2024, so to avoid booing from the crowd, he claimed.
Ouweleen showed an animatic which Tartakovsky had done himself, something he called exciting for its rarity. A quick introductory video from Tartakovsky briefly showed other elements from the show, including mafioso hippos, while describing the show as being a spin on the crime flicks of Quentin Tarantino or Guy Ritchie.
The animatic itself showed how Tartakovsky's personality and preference for strong visual storytelling entangled with these references. Developed after his work on 'Primal' Season 3, the series of boards from the first episode of the show featured the frog brothers chasing a bank vault manager mouse before it can make it to the security button. The sequence, for which Ouweleen pointed out Tex Avery influences, is a burst of kinetic visual comedy, backed by aggressive EDM music.
The frogs squash against obstacles they crash into, as their faces are reflected in stray bullets; later a giraffe acts as a siren, before a match cut reveals that their head and neck is through the sun roof of a police cruiser.
The rough drawings switch back to the perspective of the mouse, the frogs missing violent and increasingly comic attempts to stop it. The end of the short sequence also demonstrates that the show is capable of being just as violent as it is silly – one of the frogs finally fires off a bullet at its target, and Tartakovsky emphasizes the size of the bullet hole left in the bank manager mouse as a result.
Even in this rather dark conclusion, the animator's comic sensibilities shine through, in the old school 'X's replacing the mouse's eyes in death. It's a promising first look, showing off an embrace of the classic elements of the heist genre in following the consequences of being trigger happy during the robbery, but also how classical cartooning can transform that experience.
The 'Heist Safari' sneak peek reinforces Tartakovsky candidature, if there were ever a contest, as the highest profile animation personality at Annecy-MIFA 2025.
Earlier this week, he world premiered his first feature, 'Fixed,' part of Tartakovsky's deal with Sony Pictures Animation and acquired by Netflix, so present at Sony and Netflix panels. Pic was well received by Variety's Peter Debruge. Tartakovsky also proved a leading figure at Cartoon Network Studios' 25th anniversary panel.
'Heist Safari' marks the latest Adult Swim slate announcement this Thursday at Annecy.
At its Annecy studio focus, President Michael Ouweleen revealed 'The Elephant,' a highly innovative animated special produced by Titmouse uniting the talents of Pendleton Ward ('Adventure Time'), Rebecca Sugar ('Steven Universe'), Ian Jones-Quartey ('OK K.O.!') and Patrick McHale ('Over the Garden Wall').
Adult Swim also confirmed the official renewal of high-octane and fan-favorite anime 'Ninja Kamui' for not one but two additional seasons.

Geovany Quenda starred as Portugal thrashed Poland 5-0 in their second fixture of the u-21 European Championship. The teenager scored twice and created another in the first half as Portugal ran riot to take a huge step towards the knockout rounds. Quenda is the youngest player at the tournament, having only turned 18 in April, but was the star of the show for the Portuguese. The winger will join Chelsea in 2026 after agreeing a £44m move to Stamford Bridge earlier this year. He will remain on loan at Sporting Lisbon next season, having had a key role in the club's Portuguese league title success this season. Advertisement Quenda has excelled in a wing-back role at Sporting but showed his quality further forward for Portugal on Saturday evening. Chelsea signing Quenda viewed as 'generational talent' Quenda's latest performance is sure to get the excitement levels increased at Chelsea, with Portuguese journalist Mariana Fernandes claiming the teenager is viewed as the nation's next 'generational' talent. 'He is a generational talent. Here in Portugal, there is a common theme with Sporting fans, Benfica fans, Porto fans, all the football fans, that we are not going to get a lot of Geovany Quendas every year. 2015 GOTY Getting Surprise DLC 11 Years After Launch

Although the critically lauded RPG has been out for 10 years, it seems CD Projekt Red isn't done making content for the popular game. According to a new report from Polish podcasters Rock and Boris, The Witcher 3 is getting DLC that will release sometime next year. Not much else is known about the small project, but it will be developed by Fool's Theory, the studio founded by former CD Projekt Red quest designer Jakub Rokosz. This is also the studio working on the upcoming The Witcher 1 remake. 'Let's move on to our main topic,' reads a translation of the video (H/T MP1st). 'From the information we have collected, it turns out that the announced, mysterious project by CD Projekt Red, made by Fool's Theory, is a story DLC for The Witcher 3. This is confirmed information from several independent sources.' 'What we know is that this is a DLC for The Witcher 3,' the video continues. 'Based on one piece of information, I can't confirm it any further, but the earliest it could be is in the future year. We also more or less know the order of the releases: first, mods for consoles, then the DLC for The Witcher 3, then The Witcher 4, and finally, the remake of The Witcher 1.' CD Projekt Red and Fool's Theory have not yet confirmed the existence of an upcoming The Witcher 3 DLC, so take this all with a grain of salt for now. Considering many are speculating that this new DLC will take place between the events of The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4, we'll probably learn more as we inch closer to the fourth entry's release. Jon Richardson signs up for Great Celebrity Bake Off

Jon Richardson has signed up for The Great Celebrity Bake Off. The 42-year-old comic - who split from wife Lucy Beaumont last year - will be entering the famous tent for the Stand Up to Cancer special, and bosses are looking forward to him "bringing the laughs" to the show. A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: 'Bosses are over the moon that they signed up Jon. He is hilarious, so will bring the laughs to the tent, and he's hugely popular with viewers. "It's been a tough year for Jon following his split from Lucy, so this has given him some light relief and it's all for charity, so that's an added bonus.' The news comes shortly after it was revealed Babatunde Alesha had signed up for the show, despite his apparent lack of skill in the kitchen. A source said: "He's not known for his prowess in the kitchen so there's sure to be some panicky moments laced with the good humour he's known for. "His energy on the 'Gogglebox' sofa has always been pure positivity and very infectious, and bosses are hoping he'll bring that to the tent." Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague will also be taking part in the charity baking competition. A source said: "She will be a great addition to the line-up and bring a healthy helping of Love island glamour to the tent. "Molly's now one of Britain's biggest TV stars and has seen her fame steadily grow since she first appeared on the ITV dating show back in 2019." And fresh from her stint on Celebrity Big Brother, JoJo Siwa is said to have signed up for The Great Celebrity Bake Off, with producers said to be particularly pleased because of the interest in the dancer and her relationship with Chris Hughes. An insider said: "This is a bit of a coup for the 'Bake Off' because JoJo is currently one of the most talked about young stars on TV right now. "She's barely had time to catch her breath, leaving 'CBB' last month amid huge media attention and heading straight into another huge show this month. "It's also a fantastic gig for her because although she already has a fanbase over here, the cookery contest also introduces her to a wider British audience. "Plus she got plenty of experience of cooking in front of the cameras while she was on 'Celebrity Big Brother', though this time she won't have hunky Chris to distract her." The show will see Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond returning as hosts, but long-serving judge Paul Hollywood will be joined by Caroline Waldegrave after Prue Leith decided to step back from all 'GBBO' specials.
