Black Film Wire described the show – which some have compared to shows like The Handmaid's Tale – as a 'five-episode Nigerian crime thriller that doesn't just rattle your nerves, it leaves them in a puddle on the floor.'
'The series draws chilling parallels to real-life horrors, grounded by a powerful performance from Onyinye Odokoro as Adanna, a woman pushed to the edge, yet never backing down.
'But it's Genoveva Umeh that left me cold. Her portrayal of Ebun isn't just haunting—it's the kind of performance that burrows under your skin and refuses to leave: layered, grounded, and absolutely haunting,' the publication added.
'I really enjoyed every minute of Baby Farm' X user oluwabanke said.
'This show is great give us more like this,' plaintainchoiice added.
Although you'll have to decide for yourself whether this show keeps you 'captivated' with some reviews calling it 'unoriginal' and 'too restrained'.
Executive producer Mo Abudu, who is also the boss of the company EbonyLife TV that created the show in collaboration with Netflix, explained the significance of the show. More Trending
Per Deadline, he said: 'This series is more than just a thriller – it's a powerful story rooted in real-life issues told through the lense of bold, cinematic African storytelling.
'With breathtaking visuals, a gripping narrative and an outstanding cast and crew, Baby Farm will keep audiences on the edge of their seats while sparking vital conversations. We can't wait for the world to experience it.'
Heidi Ulys, supervising producer, added: ' Baby Farm is our darkest [show] yet. It's a gripping, cinematic journey into a world few dare to explore. Yet, within the shadows, there is light – because storytelling has the power to reveal, to challenge, and to inspire change
Baby Farm is available to stream on Netflix now.

Azealia Banks cancels UK festivals with claims she was pressured to 'support Pal
Azealia Banks has announced that she will no longer be performing Boomtown of Maiden Voyage after 'dealing with threats' from organisers. The controversial American rapper, 34, took to social media to claim that she was being forced to say she supports Palestine or be cut from the lineup, a claim the promoters deny. Taking to X, the 212 singer told her fans: 'So guys, I am cancelling Boomtown and Maiden Voyage. 'The promoters have been stressing me out for weeks trying to force me to say free Palestine and threatening to cut me from the bill because I won't say free Palestine and I'm not dealing with the threats and I'm not putting on a f***ing hijab. She added: 'I would much rather drop them and not associate with anything that has cheap group think bull***t attached to it. 'If they want to allow some no-name dj's to bully them into desecrating the nature of this music ecosystem and make ME the issue – whilst there being absolutely no ethical consumption under capitalism. Then that's fine. She clarified her stance in a following tweet that read: 'And no, I'm not saying f**k actual Palestine. But f**k your dumb a** slogans and performative bulls**t. Y'all wanna make a stance so bad but stand for absolutely nothing.' She continued to share various messages to her fans on social media, taking aim at organisers and performative Palestine supporters. Boomtown confirmed in a statement to Metro that they have not, and would not, dictate the beliefs of performers. 'Following her post on X in the early hours of this morning, we can confirm that Azealia Banks has withdrawn from the lineup and will no longer be performing at Boomtown Festival. 'For clarity, Boomtown does not and will never dictate the personal views and beliefs of performers,' a spokesperson said. The festival announced in January 2024 that it would be fundraising for Medical Aid for Palestinians, and an optional donation was put on all ticket purchases. The festival is set to take place from August 6 to August 10 at the Matterly Estate, Hampshire. Maiden Voyage Festival will take place on August 9 in Burgess Park, London. The change in lineup comes just weeks after Banks took to social media to claim that she was a Zionist. 'It should all be Israel. Palestine cannot support itself without help from other countries so the people should just leave or become naturalised Israelis,' she shared on X. 'Palestine is not a country. The area is called JUDEA for a reason.' The star has become known for her controversial comments, and throughout her career has been accused of homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia towards a variety of different nationalities. Notably, the star has shared a number of rants on X and Instagram, taking aim at various celebrities including Zayn Malik, Skai Jackson, and Kanye West. More Trending In 2016, she filed a police report against Russell Crowe after falling out during a hotel suite party. She also found herself at the centre of controversy in 2021 when she posted a video on Instagram of her exhuming the remains and collecting the bones of her dead cat, Lucifer. The film will soon be removed from the streaming platform Netflix fans have just days left to enjoy an acclaimed romcom before it is removed from screens. Notting Hill, which premiered in 1999 starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, has been a favourite amongst viewers since its introduction. The plot revolves around bookseller William Thacker, portrayed by Hugh Grant, whose life is upended after meeting famed actress Anna Scott, played by Julia Roberts. The film has been branded as a "must watch for anyone" and is currently available on Netflix, but fans will need to hurry as the title is set to disappear soon. Netflix has warned that the last day to watch will be July 5. The Netflix synopsis reads "A chance encounter brings together reserved bookstore owner William Thacker and Hollywood icon Anna Scott, who forge an improbable romance." With an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the reviews continue to pour in. One fan said: "It's perfect .. one of the best rom coms of all time." reports Surrey Live. Another echoed: "An absolutely amazing film, full of love, laughter and much more! A must watch for anyone." One commented: "All time fav movie," while another added: "One of the all time great rom coms. Writing and acting at the highest level." One fan penned: "Love it. I've rewatched it a few times and I don't really rewatch movies. The chemistry between the two is really nice. It's a fantasy everyone has of a chance encounter with a famous person, and then falling in love with them. "The movie brilliantly captures that. It's v cute with the right amount of twists and turns." On Google reviews, one fan echoed: "I'm not a fan of romantic comedies, so when a good one comes along, I tend to take special notice of it. This movie seriously needs to be considered among the best ever made of its genre." They further added: "This is one of those movies where you find yourself smiling so much that your cheeks start to hurt." However, the film didn't resonate with everyone. One viewer disagreed, writing: "Saw this in the theater with my (then) wife and some friends. I did not even crack a smile during the entirety of the movie." Another added: "A waste of two hours! Awkward and long film that splutters along. The characters are not very likable and this is bad even for the time."

Born to devout Muslim parents and raised in a small conservative town in the American South, Ismael Loutfi's upbringing was anything but typical, and now, it's the heart of a compelling and hilarious new show. Heavenly Baba charts a deeply personal journey through faith, rebellion, and identity, told with razor-sharp humour and emotional insight. At the centre of it all is Loutfi's father, Yaser, a man so passionate about his religion that, after being unimpressed by the Islamic school curriculum, he transformed the family car into a rolling religious manifesto. Covered bumper-to-bumper in Islamic slogans, the vehicle became a local legend and a symbol of one man's unwavering devotion. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Ismael, meanwhile, spent his youth trying (and mostly failing) to convert his classmates, navigating love, and attempting to reconcile his beliefs with the reality around him. At 17, determined to avoid sin, he convinced his father to help him marry a classmate rather than date her, a decision that led to a brief six-month union, and ultimately, to a career in stand-up comedy. Ismael Loutfi Years later, after his father's passing, Loutfi discovered a hidden collection of 300 paintings left behind. It was then he realised: the car, the fervour, the sometimes absurd attempts at devotion, it was all art. Heavenly Baba is Loutfi's tribute to that revelation, and to the complex, loving, frustrating, and unforgettable man who shaped him. Loutfi is no stranger to the comedy circuit. A Peabody Award-winning writer, he's worked on Netflix's Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, animated series Happy Family USA and the upcoming Mating Season from the team behind Big Mouth. His Comedy Central special Sound It Out is available to stream on YouTube, and he's made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, This Week at the Cellar, and more. With biting wit and unexpected tenderness, Heavenly Baba is a standout debut from a comic whose story is as unique as his voice
