ACC Network hires former Florida State and Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher as analyst
The ACC Network announced Tuesday that Fisher had been hired as an analyst for the 2025 college football season. Fisher will appear on 'ACC Huddle' and serve as a studio analyst for the network.
'I'm looking forward to joining ACC Network and the 'Huddle' team this season,' Fisher said in an ESPN statement. 'I've always had tremendous respect for this conference, and I'm looking forward to breaking down the action each week with such a talented group.'
ESPN also announced that its 'ACC Huddle' show would travel to a top ACC game every weekend. The studio show will be at Clemson in Week 1 as LSU visits the Tigers in primetime on Aug. 30.
Fisher has been out of college football since he was fired at Texas A&M with two games to go in the 2023 season. The Aggies paid over $75 million to get out of Fisher's contract after the school had extended him through the 2031 season early in his time with the school. As part of the buyout, Fisher makes over $7 million per year through the 2031 season.
If he wants to get back into coaching, a stop as an analyst for a season or two isn't the worst idea. Former Florida coach Dan Mullen was hired at UNLV ahead of the 2025 season after working for ESPN after he left the Gators. And Urban Meyer worked for ESPN for a season after he left Florida before taking over at Ohio State.
Fisher spent nearly six seasons at Texas A&M after he infamously left Florida State at the end of the 2017 season as the team scuffled through a disappointing season. Fisher was hired as Bobby Bowden's successor in 2010 and the Seminoles won at least 10 games in six of his first seven seasons with the team. That stretch included an undefeated 2013 season as Florida State won the final BCS title in a 34-31 win over Auburn.
The Seminoles made the four-team College Football Playoff the next season after going 13-0 in the regular season, but lost to Oregon in the Rose Bowl. That loss snapped a 29-game win streak that dated back to a Nov. 24 loss to Florida during the 2012 season.
Overall, Florida State was 83-23 in Fisher's time with the school. At Texas A&M, the Aggies were 45-25 and failed to win 10 games in a single season.

Charles Barkley rips TNT for 'awful' treatment when 'Inside the NBA' future was in doubt
Charles Barkley heard from the co-workers who don't appear on screen during TNT's "Inside the NBA" as its future was in flux over the past year ‒ about how they were worried about paying their mortgage or for their children's education if they were to lose this job. The lingering uncertainty bothered the former NBA star, and it still bothers him now that TNT lost the broadcast rights to the NBA and "Inside the NBA" is being licensed to ESPN beginning with the 2025-26 season. Barkley blasted his bosses at TNT during an interview on Barstool Sports' "Pardon My Take" podcast released Monday because "they did an awful job keeping us abreast." "We were playing golf in the middle of the playoffs and we were reading the internet to find out if we were going to get fired or not," Barkley said. "And I was like TNT, our bosses, they suck, plain and simple. Yo man, just tell us. Shoot us straight because these are real people. ... And TNT never came to us like grown folks and said, 'Hey guys, we're probably going to lose the NBA,' which we could have understood. But I thought they sucked. I told them they sucked because there's a way you treat people." Barkley went on to reveal he found out TNT had licensed "Inside the NBA" to ESPN through congratulatory text messages from current ESPN hosts and analysts like Scott Van Pelt, Elle Duncan, Brian Windhorst and former Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers as the news broke. Barkley said he only received a call from TNT executives about 90 minutes later. "I get a text from Scott Van Pelt, Brian Windhorst, Elle Duncan and Bob Myers welcoming me to the family. I'm like, 'What family?' " Barkley recalled. "Then, about an hour and a half later, I get a call from TNT that the story broke. I said, 'Well, you probably could have given us a head's up. You've traded us to ESPN. We have to hear about it on the internet.' I said, 'That's just not the way you do business.' Ernie Johnson deserves, because he's the godfather, Ernie Johnson should not hear he got traded from ESPN people or the internet." TNT officially lost its NBA rights in July 2024. The NBA announced a new 11-year, $76 billion media rights deal with ABC/ESPN, NBC and Amazon that goes into effect beginning with the 2025-26 season. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT, agreed to a licensing deal in November 2024 that will allow "Inside the NBA" to be broadcast on ESPN. The talent on the show ‒ Barkley, Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith ‒ will remain employees of TNT. Barkley has been on "Inside the NBA" since 2000, 10 years after it debuted with Johnson as host and two years after Smith joined the show. O'Neal joined the regular cast in 2011. ESPN, in its statement announcing the licensing agreement, said "the legendary Inside the NBA studio team will appear on ESPN and ABC surrounding high-profile live events, including ESPN's pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of the NBA Finals on ABC, Conference Finals, NBA Playoffs, all ABC games after January 1, Christmas Day, opening week, the final week of the season and other marquee live events." Barkley, however, remains skeptical about how ESPN will handle the Emmy-winning show. "I'm happy it's going on but it's going to be interesting," Barkley said on the podcast about "Inside the NBA" moving to ESPN. "It's going to be different, but you know that's the bad thing about it. We don't know how it's going to be different."

Why Emmanuel Clase was given MLB leave for Luis Ortiz betting investigation
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase was reportedly placed on on non-disciplinary paid leave because of MLB's sports-gambling investigation. The news, first reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan, comes less than one month after his teammate Luis Ortiz was put under MLB investigation for the same reason. Ortiz's leave was extended until August 31, and per The Athletic reporter Zack Meisel, that is the same date that Clase was given as well. Clase is a three-time MLB All-Star, three-time AL saves leader, and two-time AL Reliever of the Year. Here is more on the ongoing investigation surrounding Ortiz (via USA TODAY): "The investigation centers on two pitches that Ortiz threw: one on June 15 against the Seattle Mariners and a game with the St. Louis Cardinals on June 27. There was unusual betting around prop bets surrounding those pitches, both sliders, against Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena and Cardinals catcher Pedro Pages." The Guardians issued a statement, noting that "no additional players" or staff are expected to be impacted by the investigation. Cleveland added that the organization will "respect" and cooperate with the confidential investigation process. Before this news, Clase was considered one of the top relievers potentially available as a trade target for other clubs.

Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase placed on leave as part of MLB gambling probe
Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave as part of MLB's gambling investigation that led to teammate Luis Ortiz getting the same treatment, according to ESPN. Clase, 27, is one of the best closers in baseball, recording a 3.23 ERA with 24 saves this season. The three-time All-Sat is coming off a historic season in which he pitched to a microscopic 0.61 ERA in 74 1/3 innings during the 2024 season. Advertisement Emmanuel Clase Denny Medley-Imagn Images Ortiz, a starting pitcher, was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave on July 3 after two individual pitches of his from June were reportedly flagged by a betting-integrity company based on unusual betting action on them. His ban was originally through the All-Star break but was extended. Advertisement Clase has been the subject of trade rumors ahead of Thursday's 6 p.m. deadline with the Guardians (52-53) in the midsts of a mediocre season. Cleveland is 3 1/2 games back of the final AL wild-card spot and eight games back of the AL Central-leading Tigers.
