PETALING JAYA : A 33-year-old Malaysian man drowned while diving in the waters off Iboih in Kota Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia, yesterday morning.
Berita Harian reported that the victim was diving at the popular site with two other Malaysians and a dive instructor when the incident occurred at 9.30am.
The daily quoted Berita Rakyat Aceh as saying Indonesian police rushed to the site after receiving a report.
The group had been diving for about 20 minutes at a depth of 30m when they were caught in a strong underwater current.
The victim was said to have attempted to surface following the instructor's orders but lost consciousness upon reaching the surface.
He was immediately assisted by the others and taken to Pantai Iboih in a speedboat.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered by the instructor and fellow divers before he was taken to a nearby clinic.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival an hour later at 10.30am.
His body was taken to Sabang City Hospital for a post-mortem.
The remains are expected to be repatriated to Malaysia once the post-mortem is completed.

Malaysian haj pilgrim suffers heart attack, saved in time, says Saudi Health Ministry
MECCA: A 60-year-old Malaysian pilgrim, Zurina Mat Hussin, was saved by a Saudi Arabian medical team after suffering a severe heart attack during her Hajj journey. According to the Saudi Arabian Health Ministry spokesperson, the pilgrim from Terengganu was swiftly transferred to King Abdullah Medical City in Mecca. "Zurina underwent a life-saving cardiac catheterisation in record time. "Following the successful procedure, Zurina was enrolled in the Kingdom's remote health monitoring program, operated through the Seha Virtual Hospital. "Her condition is being continuously tracked using a smart heart-monitoring device. "After receiving urgent medical care, Zurina safely continues her haj, while Virtual Health continues to monitor her condition remotely. "The case reflects Saudi Arabia's advanced medical capabilities and its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all pilgrims," said the Saudi Health Ministry spokesperson. About 31,600 Malaysian pilgrims are among two million pilgrims performing the Haj this year, which will culminate on June 6 with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations worldwide.

UK mission helping family of Briton missing in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The British High Commission has confirmed that it is helping the family of a United Kingdom citizen reported missing while travelling alone in Malaysia. "We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Malaysia," a high commission spokesman said. It was reported that Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, was last heard from on Tuesday. He was believed to have been at Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar here about 8pm on Friday, when he sent a photo of the pub's quiz night poster to a friend. He has not been heard from since. Johnson-Doyle's mother, Leanne Burnett, 44, told the UK's 'Daily Mail' she was devastated by his disappearance and is preparing to fly to Malaysia to search for him. Burnett said their last conversation was on May 26 and that it had seemed entirely normal. She added that if Johnson-Doyle had lost his phone or laptop, he would have found another way to make contact. Using the "Find My iPhone" app, she traced his phone to a block of flats near the bar early on Wednesday, but the signal stopped updating soon after, and the phone has since gone offline. Repeated calls and social media messages have gone unanswered. Johnson-Doyle, a software engineer, had been travelling across the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia for over a year while working remotely for a United States-based tech company. He arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after a stop in Vietnam and was believed to be staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit Bintang here. The family has reported him missing to police in England, contacted the British Consulate and Malaysia authorities, and notified his employer. Attempts to obtain information from his hotel have been complicated by language barriers. Friends and relatives have launched a coordinated search online, sharing his details across social media and Malaysian websites. The 'New Straits Times' has also contacted the city police for details on the case.
