World Rugby unable to identify perpetrators of racism at Argentina-England match
'While it is clear that an incident took place, we regret that the individuals responsible could not be identified,' World Rugby said Monday, adding that the Argentine federation 'has developed an action plan to enhance their operations, educate fans and better prevent such unacceptable incidents from occurring again.'
Jack van Poortvliet's last-gasp try earned England a 22-17 win over Argentina and another test series victory in Pumas country.
'We strongly condemn all acts of racism and stand in solidarity with the England Rugby players who felt aggrieved,' said Gabriel Travaglini, president of the Argentina Rugby Union.
'Upon learning of the incidents, intense efforts were made to identify the small group of five or seven individuals responsible within a crowd of over 20,000 spectators,' Travaglini added. 'Unfortunately, despite an exhaustive search, it was not possible to identify the perpetrators. We will continue to work collaboratively with World Rugby to educate the fans and eradicate any similar manifestations in the future, ensuring that our events are spaces of respect and inclusion for everyone.'

Fan removed from stadium after racist abuse claim
A football fan was ejected from Bolton Wanderers' stadium after allegedly directing racist abuse at a player from an opposing team. Reports of the abuse came during the warm-up ahead of a pre-season friendly between Bolton and Preston North End at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday. A Wanderers statement said the club "unequivocally condemned" the alleged behaviour of the fan and said it was co-operating with "all relevant authorities" including the police. Preston said its staff were supporting the player affected and it was "grateful" to Bolton staff for taking "swift action". 'No place in football' Bolton Wanderers said in a statement: "We extend our full support to the affected player. "Such behaviour has no place in football or society; it stands in direct opposition to the values of respect and inclusion our club upholds." Bolton finished the tie 2-0 winners with goals from Amario Cozier-Duberry and Joel Randall. David Raya praises 15yo Arsenal duo Dowman & Salmon
David Raya has praised 15-year-old duo Marli Salmon and Max Dowman, after the pair made their pre-season debuts for the Arsenal first team this week. Photo via Dowman on Instagram Arsenal youth duo Marli Salmon and Max Dowman made their unofficial debuts for Mikel Arteta's first team in Wednesday's friendly match against AC Milan, coming off the bench to help the team see out a 1-0 win. Speaking in the days after that game, David Raya admitted he's been impressed with the youngsters on tour so far. 'I think the young lads (stood out to me),' Raya said. 'Obviously Marli [Salmon] and Max [Dowman], they're just 15 years old and they look like they've been with us for so many years. 'Such a young age to play with Arsenal, and to come on tour with the first team of Arsenal is incredible. So those two have been magnificent.' Photo via Despite being easily the youngest players on the pitch, Salmon and Dowman rarely looked it. The two were composed in possession, and Salmon showed his abilities off the ball up against some tough opponents. Arteta likely won't hesitate to give the pair further chances as pre-season progresses, particularly with Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber still not available for selection. Salmon will be needed to make up the numbers, if nothing else. Then with Noni Madueke not joining pre-season until Arsenal return from Asia, Dowman will be a useful option as an alternative to Bukayo Saka on the right. Photo via Premier League on Instagram The one other young player who was involved against AC Milan was Josh Nichols, coming on at right-back to replace Ben White. Nichols' situation isn't quite the same as the other two, as he's 19 years old (as of Saturday) and he already made his competitive debut for Arsenal last season. But the defender was still very impressive in his limited minutes against Milan, and he deserves credit for that after a while out injured. Nichols pointed out on Instagram that he'd had a four-month wait since his previous Arsenal appearance, but those watching all agreed he didn't look rusty.

Bowen is West Ham's 'captain fantastic'
West Ham manager Graham Potter has labelled skipper Jarrod Bowen as a "fantastic captain" after his goal against Manchester United in their Premier League Summer Series opener on Saturday. Potter is trying to put his stamp on the Hammers after failing to make much of an impression in his first half season in charge after replacing Julen Lopetegui in January. The funds raised from the sale of winger Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham for £55m earlier this month are having to be spent wisely and, last week, England defender Kyle Walker-Peters became the club's fourth signing of the summer. But in Bowen, Potter has someone with vast experience with the east London outfit. The 28-year-old has made 238 appearances and scored 74 goals for the club since joining from Hull for £18m in January 2020. He was on target in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by United at the MetLife Stadium and would have equalised in stoppage time had it not been for an excellent save by Altay Bayindir. As he tries to improve the rest of the team, Potter knows Bowen is someone he can rely on. "He is a fantastic captain," said Potter. "How he has led the team, grown into the role and taken responsibility. "He speaks so well to the players, with authority, calmness and respect. "He is fantastic for West Ham. He understands the club and what is required and leads by example."
