A cause of death for a woman who passed away with 26 iPhones glued to her body has been revealed.
The 20-year-old woman fell unwell while travelling on a bus in Guarapuava, in Brazil's central region of Paraná on Tuesday evening. Reports indicate that she was journeying alone from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo.
The bus pulled over at a restaurant when the woman began to suffer respiratory problems, reports the Mirror.
Emergency services were called to the scene as she struggled with a shortness of breath. Initially, it was unclear, but her symptoms were linked to post-seizure and respiratory distress.
She deteriorated and later stopped breathing. Paramedics tried to resuscitate the woman for approximately 45 minutes but she was declared dead at the scene.
During the medical emergency, medics noticed multiple packages including the phones were attached to her body.
Police also found several bottles of alcohol in her luggage.
Following suspicions of smuggling, police sniffer dogs were also brought to the scene. However, no drugs were found on the victim.
According to Brazilian media outlet Globo, officers had previously stated: "The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death.
"According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service."
The case remains ongoing.

She told police the beatings only paused when she agreed to have sex with him. Wood allegedly used an electrical cord to whip her, threatened to saw off her foot, and even knelt on her neck until she couldn't breathe. At one point, she claimed he confined her in a crawlspace and covered it, effectively burying her alive for two days. Her eventual escape came when she discovered an unlocked door and fled to a neighbour, who described her as "frantic" and visibly injured, with black eyes, a gash on her head, and multiple bruises. "She was scared to death that he was going to find her and kill her," the neighbour told Fox 10 Phoenix. During a recent court appearance, prosecutors stated the woman was repeatedly raped under threat of death and restrained using chains. "This victim, very well for 14 days, may have been worried that she may not survive this incident," a county attorney said. Wood denies the allegations, calling them "crazy" and blaming the woman's mental health, telling the judge she just got "out of the loony bin," claiming she was prone to "episodes" and that her mother usually handled them. "I wasn't home at the time. When I got home, the police were there, and this all just kind of broke out," he added. In 2007, Wood was arrested for aggravated assault, and later for attempted domestic violence in 2010 - both cases resulting in guilty pleas. In the earlier case, police said witnesses saw him trying to force a screaming woman into his truck. He told officers she was his girlfriend and they were just arguing.
