Giant ‘Madre Fire' surges across 35,000 acres in Southern California, becoming the states largest wildfire this year
The Madre Fire sparked on Wednesday around 1 p.m. along Highway 166 in New Cuyama in San Luis Obispo County. Hours after starting, the fire had consumed 9,000 acres. By Thursday morning, the fire had surged to more than 35,500 acres as firefighters on the ground and in the air attempt to suppress the blaze.

Evacuation orders are in place for multiple zones in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties near Highway 166. The highway remains closed for firefighting efforts, according to San Luis Obispo County Government officials.
About 50 structures are threatened by the fire, according to CAL Fire.
On Tuesday night, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation warning east of the Rock Front Area, west of Cottonwood Canyon Road and south of Highway 166.
'Residents should prepare to leave at a moment's notice,' the sheriff's office said.

Fire behavior is being driven by hot, dry and windy conditions. Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Los Angeles said breezy conditions will continue on Thursday, and northerly Sundowner winds are likely to return Friday night and into the weekend. Gusts between 25 and 45 mph are likely, with localized gusts of up to 50 mph.
Smoke from the Madre Fire is creating a significantly smoky sky for the Cuyama Valley and is forecast to drift over Santa Barbara and western portions of Ventura County. Smoke could be visible over parts of Los Angeles County on Thursday.

Evacuation warning lifted after brush fire burns near homes in Rancho Bernardo
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — An evacuation warning was lifted Friday after a fire burned near homes in the community of Rancho Bernardo. Authorities reported the fire in the area of Camino Del Norte and Bernardo Center Drive around 2:40 p.m. Crews could be seen working to put out the flames burning on a hillside near homes. In an update at 4:23 p.m. on X, San Diego Fire-Rescue said the fire had burned at least 12 acres and that crews were making good progress. At 3:45 p.m., a shelter in place advisory for residents in the area north and west of Bernardo Center Drive, south of Camino Del Norte and Camino San Bernardo, and east of Dove Canyon Road and Camino San Bernardo was upgraded to an evacuation warning. Around 5:35 p.m., the San Diego Police Department announced all evacuation warnings had been lifted. People were advised to be prepared to evacuate or leave as soon as possible if they need extra time to do so. Evacuation warnings are issued when there is a potential threat to life and/or property, per the county. 2 structures involved in Lake Fire near Clearlake
Firefighters are battling a wildfire involving two structures in the Clearlake area Sunday afternoon, Cal Fire said. Firefighters responded to Eastlake Drive just after 2:15 p.m., where they found a fire with at least two structures involved. As of about 3 p.m., firefighters said the fire has burned 10-15 acres and there was "a significant augmentation of resources dispatched to the fire." Crews are calling it the Lake Fire.

Riverside County firefighters battle 50-acre brush fire in San Timoteo Canyon
Riverside County firefighters battled a brush fire burning in the San Timoteo Canyon near Redlands on Saturday. It was reported at around 5 p.m. near Live Oak Canyon Road and San Timoteo Road in the Ordway neighborhood, according to Cal Fire. As of 6:30 p.m., the fire is said to have burned just under 46 acres. Both ground and air resources were used to fight the fire, which could be seen burning through light vegetation in the area with SkyCal overhead. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. No injuries have been reported and no structures have been damaged.
