Eby warns against jumping to conclusions about Lapu Lapu suspect's care before attack
VICTORIA - British Columbia Premier David Eby says there's a disconnect between what health authorities say about the prior condition of the suspect in the Lapu Lapu festival attack and the reality of what happened.
But Eby also says people shouldn't jump to the conclusion that those involved in Adam Kai-Ji Lo's care did anything wrong, adding the province is committed to a full public inquiry to answer those questions.
Lo, 30, is facing multiple second-degree murder charges after 11 people were killed when an SUV plowed through the Filipino street festival in Vancouver on April 26.
Lo received mental health care from a Vancouver Coastal Health team and Eby says the authority described Lo as compliant with his medication and having no history of violence.
Eby has previously been vocal with his opinions about the case, calling Lo 'a murderer' who 'should spend the rest of his God damned life in jail.'
His comments were criticized last week by the B.C. branch of the Canadian Bar Association, which said it was deeply concerning that Eby would express such opinions before a fair trial could take place.

VICTORIA - An adjudicator appointed by B.C.'s police watchdog is expected to release his decision on the discipline for an officer who fired an anti-riot weapon, killing a woman. Former B.C. Supreme Court judge Wally Oppal ruled last month that Victoria police Sgt. Ron Kirkwood's use of a so-called ARWEN gun on Lisa Rauch was 'reckless and unnecessary.' Oppal was appointed by the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner to review the evidence against the officer and determined Kirkwood committed misconduct when he used the weapon on the woman, who was in a drug-induced psychosis. The commission says Oppal, a former B.C. attorney general, is also expected to issue his decision on possible corrective measures and recommendations for change in relation to his findings. Oppal's ruling said the 43-year-old woman was at a friend's Victoria apartment using drugs and alcohol when she went into the psychosis on Christmas Day 2019. It says when police entered the apartment, their view was obscured by smoke from a fire and they believed Rauch was standing, but she was actually sitting and was hit in the head by two plastic projectiles. ICE busts during LA riots includes child molesters, killers and Molotov cocktail menace as DHS rips protesters ‘fighting to protect' criminals
The Trump administration on Wednesday paraded a rogues' gallery of criminal migrants that are being backed by violent anti-ICE rioters in Los Angeles — including child molesters, murders and drug dealers. One of the worst illegal immigrant offenders, Emiliano Garduno-Galvez, was busted during Saturday's unrest and charged with attempted murder for allegedly hurling a Molotov cocktail at LA County sheriff's deputies. Garduno-Galvez had already been deported from the US once, and arrested twice last year. An aide to Los Angeles City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado has been put on unpaid leave following their arrest at an anti-ICE protest. 'My office is aware that a member of my staff has been arrested. The allegations are deeply concerning and I take them very seriously,' Jurado said in a statement provided to LA Mag. According to the Los Angeles Times, which obtained Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department inmate records, Luz Aguilar was arrested around 7 p.m. on June 9 for suspicion of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon. Their twin sister, Antonia Aguilar, was also arrested, and they were being held in lieu of the $50,000 bail. Aguilar had been the deputy of community growth and economic innovation for Jurado. Last year during her campaign for the City Council seat she now occupies, Yurado — who declared herself an abolitionist who would get rid of the LAPD in a Democratic Socialist of America questionnaire — was criticized when she was recorded saying "Fuck the Police." Serving District 14, she represents Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Lincoln Heights, El Sereno, Boyle Heights and downtown. Yurado took office in December 2024 and became the first person of Filipino descent on the city council. 'While I respect the individual's right to due process, I hold my team to the highest standards of conduct,' Jurado also said. 'They have been placed on unpaid leave while we assess the facts and consider appropriate action.' When ICE raids began on June 6, Jurado spoke to a crowd outside City Hall, reflecting on the 'heinous' acts of the federal government 'to inflict fear and suffering' during Pride Month and graduation celebrations. 'Make no mistake, this was not a coincidence. It was a deliberate act and a calculated attempt to take joy from our communities, to replace celebration with anxiety,' she said. 'What kind of government plans this violence during our most sacred moments of joy? The footage speaks for itself. This is cruelty disguised as policy. Any notion that this is about public safety is a deluded lie.' Aguilar is also the child of Pasadena Councilmember Rick Cole, who has been in attendance at protests. 'It's a loud, but entirely peaceful exercise of our rights to stand against cruel and arbitrary deportations of our neighbors and workers in our community,' he wrote in an Instagram post.
