MAP Jordan, partners deliver vision care to over 2,000 patients since 2024
AMMAN — The Jordan Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP Jordan), in partnership with Al Basar International Foundation and Al Khansa Hospital, has concluded the fourth and fifth phases of its ongoing anti-blindness campaign, delivering 930 free cataract surgeries to patients living in refugee camps across the Kingdom.
With this latest effort, the total number of surgeries performed since the campaign launched in January 2024 has reached 2,250. Earlier phases saw 399 surgeries in the first round, followed by 923 across the second and third, according to a MAP Jordan statement.
In the fourth and fifth phases alone, over 8,000 individuals were screened. Alongside the surgeries, patients received free eye drops and prescription eyeglasses—part of a comprehensive initiative aimed at enhancing vision care and improving the quality of life for underserved communities.
'This initiative goes beyond numbers,' said Islam Mohamad, program supervisor at MAP Jordan. 'Each surgery tells a story of transformation, children seeing their parents clearly for the first time, young adults returning to work and education, and elderly individuals regaining their independence. It's about restoring dignity, hope, and a sense of purpose.'
The success of the campaign reflects the deep partnership between MAP Jordan and its partners, as well as the support of donors and volunteers who continue to fuel the mission, according to the statement.
Plans are already underway for future campaigns as part of the long-term vision to eliminate preventable blindness across Jordan's refugee populations, the statement said.

Aqaba Container Terminal Signs Agreement with King Hussein Cancer Foundation to Expand Breast Cancer Awareness in Aqaba
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the preferred gateway to Jordan, the Levant, and beyond, has signed an agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) to support the Jordan Breast Cancer Program through a comprehensive awareness outreach community project. This effort reinforces ACT's role as a key contributor to health promotion and early detection in "Awareness is Power," ACT will support the foundation in delivering awareness lectures and community outreach activities for breast cancer awareness and early detection services, targeting underprivileged women in Aqaba. ACT will cover the cost of mammogram vouchers, and the initiative will be implemented through home visits and by facilitating the transfer of eligible women to undergo mammogram the agreement, King Hussein Cancer Foundation will train 25 volunteers in breast cancer knowledge and communication. The program will also deliver 400 awareness sessions reaching 6,000 women in Aqaba, in addition to hosting a public event reaching 200 members of the community and referring at least 100 women for on this agreement, Harald Nijhof, Chief Executive Officer of Aqaba Container Terminal, said, "At ACT, it is a deeply rooted value of ours to contribute to the quality of life of the communities we work in. Jordanian field hospital in Gaza responds to journalist's plea, aids his ailing wife
AMMAN — The Jordanian field hospital in in northern Gaza responded on Monday to an urgent humanitarian appeal made by a local journalist seeking a vital medication for his wife, which had completely run out in local markets and was only allowed to enter in very limited quantities. A statement from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said that the hospital's medical and administrative teams took 'immediate' action upon receiving the plea, and secured the treatment and delivered it directly to the patient, amid the challenging conditions and severe shortages of medicines and medical supplies in the war-torn Strip. The hospital force commander said that the initiative reflects Jordan's humanitarian duty towards Palestinians in Gaza and aligns with the noble mission carried out by JAF to alleviate the suffering of civilians. He added that the medical teams continue to provide healthcare and meet urgent treatment needs despite the significant challenges facing the healthcare sector there, the statement said. Jordan runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north, which was established in 2009 following the war in 2008, and the other in its south in Khan Younis, which was established in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023. Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023. The Israeli occupation on Sunday assassinated six journalists and photographers in an airstrike targeting their tent near Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, as part of a systematic criminal approach aimed at suppressing press freedom.
