All the Restaurant Closings in Austin, May 2025
This Jewish deli, which opened in Northwest Hills in 2017 and in other locations that opened and closed through the years, has closed its doors. The deli posted on Facebook in April, noting a temporary closure due to the death of its owner. A Redditor posted a photo of a handwritten sign later in the month that read, 'It's been an honor serving you! We will be back soon! Thankfully and gratefully, the Biderman's staff.' As of now, Biederman's has been wiped from Google Maps, and its website is gone. No posts have been made on its social media accounts to explain the closure. Dee Dee
It's so long, but not goodbye for this food truck. Dee Dee announced on Instagram that it will close down its truck at Radio Coffee and Beer and open a brick-and-mortar at the forthcoming Leona Botanical Café and Bar later this summer. The truck was in business for nine years before making the location jump. Golden Eye Chocolates
The Austin chocolate shop notified customers via a newsletter email that it is closing its North Austin location on May 31 and will stop offering curbside pickup at its South Austin location on June 20. It cited climate change as the culprit. 'Severe floods and droughts in key countries that produce over 50 percent of the world's chocolate have led to a significant loss of cacao crops and substantial price increases. This, coupled with unforeseen delays in our kitchen construction, has proven to be too costly for us to continue the business as it exists,' the newsletter said. The brand may make a return, however. The email said it is looking for a new kitchen and working through restructuring its business model. Stinson's
This north Austin bistro closed its doors in May and will reopen as a food truck, it announced on Instagram. Stinson's will reopen across the street from its Burnett Avenue location, offering the same coffee, breakfast tacos, and other dishes that it's always served. The truck should open before the end of May, pending city permits. The Brass Tap
It's another closure for the Brass Tap, a beer bar. This was its last location, near the Triangle in North Austin. No specific reason was given in a notice posted on its front door or in social media posts captured by Community Impact. For those who miss it, the Round Rock location is still up and running. Dry Dock
During the first week in May, this 43-year-old seafood spot shaped like a boat out in San Antonio served its last meal. After coming under new ownership, it will become a crab boil-centric restaurant called Crab City, MySA reports. Much of the current staff will reportedly remain to work at the new restaurant.

Google to offer Gemini AI to U.S. government agencies for 47 cents
The Google brand logo hangs above the entrance to the Google Building, formerly known as Union Inland Terminal in January of 2023. Google's parent company Alphabet made a deal Thursday with the U.S. government to use its Gemini AI. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. government struck a deal with Google to use its artificial intelligence and other applications for 47 cents, underbidding other AI partners. The U.S. General Services Administration, or GSA, announced Thursday in a press release it has a contract with Google that will "provide a suite of AI and cloud services that will accelerate the adoption of AI across government" as per the Trump administration's "America's AI Action Plan." Under the agreement, agencies will have access to Google's enterprise search, pre-packaged AI agents on Deep Research, the NotebookLM AI tool and video and image generation capabilities, among other offerings for 47 cents per agency for Google's AI complement through 2026. "Today we're introducing Gemini for Government in partnership with the General Services Administration," Google posted to social media Thursday. "Government agencies will get access to our secure, FedRAMP-authorized, comprehensive AI platform priced at less than [50 cents] per government agency for a year." Google had already agreed to provide Google Workspace to all federal agencies at a 71% discount on of its current Multiple Award Schedules Program pricing in April, for all transaction sizes. "We're proud to partner with the General Services Administration to offer 'Gemini for Government'," said Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai in the release. "Building on our Workspace offer for federal employees, 'Gemini for Government' gives federal agencies access to our full stack approach to AI innovation, including tools like NotebookLM and Veo powered by our latest models and our secure cloud infrastructure, so they can deliver on their important missions," Pichai also said. Google is charging is less than half the rates the GSA agreed to in August with other AI groups. The Anthropic AI company offered its Claude AI to all three branches of U.S. government for $1, which topped the established OpenAI for Government partnership with the GSA that was only attached to the executive branch. "Federal agencies can now significantly transform their operations by using the tools in 'Gemini for Government,' thanks to this agreement with Google and the Trump Administration's leadership revolutionizing AI for the U.S. government," said GSA Acting Administrator Michael Rigas in the release. "GSA is dedicated to rapidly achieving President [Donald] Trump's goals to accelerate AI adoption across government and this agreement with Google is the latest success in meeting that goal," he added.
