Movie Reboots I'd Actually Love To See

Buzz Feed3 hours ago
It seems like we're getting some great original movies lately...it'd be a shame if someone made a post about movies to remake. Well, actually, with the success of remakes like The Naked Gun (a hit with critics and audiences), it shows that all it takes is a good story.
Hello, welcome to my elevator pitches on potential remakes.
Here are 19 movies that I wouldn't hate if they remade:
Starship Troopers (1997)
There's a chance to adapt the book by Robert A. Heinlein with better bug graphics and a story more faithful to the book. Or even giving the right director and screenwriter the liberty to add more modern themes.Especially after the success of Dune, it would be cool to give some of the best costume designers in Hollywood a crack at this film.Watch it on Hulu.
The Freshman (1925)
Hard to believe a 100-year-old American football movie exists, but it does. Obviously, with the original being a silent comedy, the possibilities are endless.A simple story of a college freshman seeking popularity by joining the football team is such a basic concept that can be turned into so much more with the right people at the helm.Watch it on Hulu.
The Austin Powers franchise
Do you remember how Hollywood made Bel-Air, a serious reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Get ready for an overly serious adaptation—all the same ridiculous dialogue, but framed as seriously as the Bond movies. So, basically, the intro to Goldmember but full-length.Dr. Evil leans in close to his son, and whispers, "Throw me a frickin' bone."Watch it on Hulu.
Lord of the Flies (1963)
The classic by William Golding is in need of a reboot with tablet babies. There is a lot of room to stay loyal while playing with the idea of what it would be like for modern boys to find themselves stranded. It seems like casting children has been getting better and better over the years (Stranger Things), so it'd be cool to see this tale in a modern setting.Watch it on Hulu.
Wife vs. Secretary (1936)
A story about jealousy between a secretary and the boss's wife, forced to spend time together. Take this outdated idea and flip it on its head. Love triangle? Spouse/secretary team-up? Enemies to besties? An LGBTQ+ storyline? Whatever the concept, there is something there with the concept and the title alone.Watch it on Hulu.
Hitch (2005)
Again, with the strides we have made with technology, online dating, and Tinder, the storylines are endless for what can be done with the concept of a professional matchmaker in the 2020s.Watch Hitch (2005) on Hulu.
Speed (1994)
An officer faces off with a bomber in a fast-paced action flick. If we can bring practicality back into action movies, Speed is a fun concept. Perhaps it can be a different vehicle other than a bus, but it needs to be big, loud, and explosive.Watch it on Hulu.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
Great adventure literature characters team up to take on a world-threatening enemy. The entire concept feels like something that would get its own cinematic universe like the MCU.You have the core group, but there are plenty of cool literary characters to tackle...and the even bolder option is adding more modern literary characters. (Imagine Percy Jackson standing alongside Mr. Hyde.)Watch it on Hulu.
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008)
I wasn't a fan of the 2008 version of Gort (big robot), so I'd like a reboot with a more practical design. I think a smaller budget would do wonders for this film. Imagine less War of the Worlds, and more10 Cloverfield Lane.Characters before action, I say!Watch it on Hulu.
Forrest Gump (1994)
A ton of people do modern versions of "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel, so why not a modernized Gump? Have Gump's life geared more toward the 21st century. And guess who should play Gump? Tom Hanks! That's right. Get ready for some de-aging technology for a second Oscar run.Watch it on Hulu.
Pretty Woman (1990)
Like anything rebooted, there is so much to add with the modern technological advances as far as the almighty dating scene. Bring the same heart and well-written characters as the O.G., but give 'em smartphones!Watch it on Hulu.
Pixels (2015)
I'm actually kind of serious about this one because the concept is a fun idea.Instead of an Adam Sandler comedy, imagine this film re-imagined, similar to something like Ready Player One. It'd probably have a lot of heart and nostalgia for video game fans. More sincere adventure...less comedy.Watch it on Hulu.
Independence Day (1996)
The original is perfectly corny and serviceable. The problem is, you have a guy obsessed with horror making this list. It might be leaning too close to War of the Worlds, but taking the elements in the O.G. and amplifying them could do wonders. The concept of a UFO hovering over you and not knowing if it is good or bad is great suspense.Watch it on Hulu.
E.T. (1982)
Good on Hollywood for never remaking or doing a sequel to this classic. I'm here for a good time, not a long time...so IF they were to remake this, it'd be fun to see advancements in puppeteering for the E.T. character.Watch it on Hulu.
I, Robot (2004)
This one is tricky because I think the 2004 version stuck to the themes of Isaac Asimov's book very well. There's still room to tackle new designs of the robots and perhaps de-2000s-fying elements about the story.Watch it on Hulu.
Fugitives for a Night (1938)
For those who have never heard of this '30s film, the plot is basically: An actor and his girlfriend flee when accused of a murder they did not commit. It's an interesting concept that would be cool to see tackled in the modern Hollywood setting.Subgenres are wide open, too. Keep it more of a romance mystery. Add comedy. Whatever. The key: an interesting story. Watch it on Hulu.
Practical Magic (1998)
Witch sisters? Sign everyone up.The original with Sandra Bullock focuses more on romantic elements, but I say lean even more into the sisterhood side of the script, and there is a lot of untapped potential with the concept. And, of course, have it all in a modern setting with today's technology, challenges, and politics.Watch it on Hulu.
The Girl Next Door (2004)
Adjust this screenplay to spotlight modern sex work and the struggles of living day-to-day lives for these women.Perhaps a reboot would find a better-suited age gap for the two characters. Make it a college guy with a college woman with an OnlyFans or something. Or even gender-swap...or an LGBTQ+ story.Watch it on Hulu.
And lastly, Cast Away (2000)
Will they or won't they...but it's just Tom Hanks' character with Wilson the volleyball. Perhaps the Wilson love story is what we have all been waiting for? No? Just me.I'm not saying they should write in a 20-minute love scene by the fire, but I think there is an extended cut they aren't telling us about. #ReleaseTheWilsonCutWatch it on Hulu.

‘Eenie Meanie' review: Hulu heist movie offers throwback, throwaway fun

For most of its 94-minute run time, the Hulu heist film 'Eenie Meanie' occupies a surprisingly enjoyable space between those low-budget, ultraviolent Quentin Tarantino rip-offs common in the 1990s and '00s and police-chase videos that dominate YouTube today. Highlighted by magnetic lead performances by Samara Weaving and Karl Glusman — actors you likely recognize but who rarely top-line movies — and realistic chase scenes involving vintage American muscle cars, 'Eenie Meanie' offers mindless fun. Veteran screenwriter and first-time feature director Shawn Simmons keeps the action moving, even if the pieces are derivative and contrived. Weaving (' Ready or Not ') plays Edie Meaney, nicknamed 'Eenie Meanie,' a skilled getaway driver trying to go straight and keep away from John (Glusman), a trigger-happy substance abuser and Edie's boyfriend for at least half their young lives. They are too co-dependent to be apart for long, with the unpredictable yet charming John telling Edie and any other fellow Cleveland criminal within earshot that Edie is his destiny. Weaving plays Edie as powerless in love but coolheaded in most instances — a necessary trait for a getaway driver. Before you can say 'gun it,' Edie has hopped into a series of 1960s-80s V8-powered rockets to get John out of jams, deftly evading pursuing criminals and oncoming traffic. Director Simmons forgoes the usual CGI shortcuts, staging extended chase scenes that thrill in their burned-rubber authenticity. The movie's realism takes a small hit, however, every time Weaving, an Australian native, attempts a local accent. Although I am no expert on Cleveland accents, I am guessing they are not three parts Bronx, six parts chewed-up vowels. That Weaving always holds our attention anyway testifies to her talents. John's angry outbursts and other missteps — like keeping a guy who counts cards for a living (an amusing Randall Park) locked in a box with air holes — put him on the outs with the local crime boss (a rote Andy Garcia). The boss orders John to steal the $3 million in prize money from an upcoming casino contest. Edie will drive the getaway car, a new Dodge Charger in which the casino brass plan to stash the prize money, right on the gaming floor. This setup is preposterous, but the movie's casually insult-laden dialogue keeps the story grounded in a believable enough criminal milieu. So do supporting performances by Marshawn Lynch and Steve Zahn. Lynch, the Oakland-raised retired NFL star, brings abundant charisma to his role as Edie's getaway driving rival. His personal style is over the top but has an all-business, unflustered air that resembles Edie's. Zahn lends enough sincerity to his role as Edie's reformed criminal dad that you almost forget this guy made a 14-year-old Edie drive him home from bars and flee from police. 'Eenie Meanie' also takes a late, sharp-left storytelling turn from which it does not recover. What had been a romp grows serious, thus betraying the movie's compact with an audience that agreed to its strictly amoral terms. But entertainment value and reasonable length still make the film a decent, low-effort option for home viewers — especially those already subscribed to Hulu.

The series followed Allen's Tim as he hosted his home improvement show, 'Tool Time,' and navigated his family life. Richardson starred as Tim's wife Jill, who was often frustrated over his DIY-related antics. The role netted Richardson two Golden Globe nominations and four Emmy nominations. She's also starred in Lifetime's 'Strong Medicine,' as well as 'The West Wing,' 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Last Man Standing,' 'Blindspot,' 'NCIS' and 'The Blacklist.' Karn starred as Al, Tim's sarcastic yet kind co-host on 'Tool Time' who often served as his levelheaded foil. He also appeared alongside Allen when both co-hosted the competition series 'Assembly Required.' Karn then hosted four seasons of 'Family Feud' and has since appeared in 'PEN15,' 'Last Man Standing,' 'Air Bud,' 'Desperately Seeking Susan,' 'Detroiters' and 'That '70s Show.' Still best known for her role on 'Home Improvement,' Dunning has since hosted 'Debbe Dunning's Dude Ranch Roundup.' Created by Julie Thacker Scully and Mike Scully, 'Shifting Gears' follows a gruff widower (Allen) who runs an auto restoration shop. When he takes in his estranged daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) and his two grandchildren, his life is turned upside down. The series also stars Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis. Nancy Travis and Jenna Elfman will also return as guest stars in Season 2. 'Shifting Gears' is executive produced by Allen alongside Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Dennings is also a producer. The ABC comedy is produced by 20th Television. The post 'Shifting Gears' Season 2 Premiere Will Be a 'Home Improvement' Reunion appeared first on TheWrap.

Are King Princess and Christine Baranski Dating?

This year has brought on a few deliciously chaotic pairings in the public eye–no, seriously, it fully feels like these names were pumped out of a randomized generator. From Madelaine Petsch and Tyga to JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes, the game of love is bringing on the unexpected. The latest duo to spark dating rumors (and, honestly, make us scratch our heads a little bit)? That'd be none other than King Princess and Christine Baranski. The musician and Mamma Mia! star initially met while co-starring on Hulu's Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 together, and fans are speculating that they may have a flirtation going on. It's unclear whether they're actually an item, but it begs the question: Are King Princess and Christine Baranski dating? The recent string of speculation comes after K.P. dropped an Instagram post with her co-star captioned '#loveislove' on August 20. Of course, it's important to note that the Girl Violence artist loves to troll her followers with a good meme from time to time. But, is this a meme, or something more? Fans flooded her comments section, likening the age-gapped pairing to real-life queer icons, Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor. One fan poked fun at their age difference with a reference to King Princess' 2017 breakout hit, writing, 'She wrote '1950' for a reason.' Others chimed in, matching the post's humorous tone. 'My fave thing about this is idk if this is real or not,' one fan wrote, as another added, 'I love the new cast of The L Word.' Someone else made another comparison to the 2015 sapphic romance film, Carol, writing, 'Close enough, welcome back Carol.' However, a certain comment from Hacks star Hannah Einbinder raised eyebrows, as she referenced her and Jean Smart's beloved characters while writing, 'ava and deborah vibes.' K.P.—whose real name is Mikaela Straus—fueled speculation when she jokingly responded, 'double date ?' (ICYMI, fans initially freaked out when Hannah liked a post from May 2025 asking about the nature of the pair's relationship.) Christine and King Princess were first spotted when they visited Oh, Mary! on Broadway in August 2024, and have made other appearances in the theater space since, including the opening night of The Picture of Dorian Gray in March 2025. They also spoke to each other for Interview Magazine in May, and played into dating rumors during their convo. When explaining how their friendship blossomed, Christine said, 'Our first date—let's give them something to talk about—we actually got dressed up and finally had dinner. I remember we went to this chic, French-y watering hole. We sat at the bar, ordered our martinis, and suddenly we're talking about our grandmothers who deeply affected and influenced our lives. I think that's where we profoundly bonded.' At the end of their interview, Christine added, 'It's going to be a beautiful relationship, baby...I can't wait for the decades ahead. I'm going to learn so much from you, and I'll teach you whatever good stuff that I know,' to which K.P. responded, 'I love you and I'm just thankful to have you in my life.' TL;DR: It doesn't seem like these two are actually an item, but damn, do they love playing into the rumors. We're obsessed nonetheless!
