As the search continues for a missing New York City man last seen in Turks and Caicos, officials in the Caribbean country said that the body of a man was recovered Sunday, July 6.
According to a press release from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, the body was discovered at around 9:05 a.m. local time on Sunday while police searched for missing New York man Brian Tarrence, who has been missing since June 25.
Police said the body was found in a "state of decomposition," with the body's identity unable to be immediately confirmed.
"The Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We urge members of the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigation process to confirm the identity through official channels," Acting Commissioner Rodney Adams said in the release.
The discovery was made as officials continue to search for Tarrence. According to local news station NBC 4 New York, the 51-year-old, who was last seen June 25, was on vacation on the island with his wife.
According to NBC 4, the couple had gone on a boat ride and out to dinner before returning to their Airbnb at Grace Bay. Tarrence was last seen on video surveillance leaving the rental property at around 3:40 a.m. and heading to the small downtown area.

After ‘quite a bit of drama in the White House,' the network's panel thinks the FBI's deputy director is almost certainly staring at defeat in his bust-up with Attorney General Pam Bondi.

A Fox News panel suggested Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino stands little chance of surviving his ultimatum about working alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi amid mounting blowback over the agency's handling of the Epstein files. Bongino reportedly failed to show up to work on Friday and has threatened to resign after sparring with Bondi in a tense White House exchange. The row comes after a leaked memo revealed the FBI and DOJ have essentially closed their investigation on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019. 'It's a lot easier to be a commentator, a pundit, a bomb thrower on the outside,' network radio analyst Josh Kraushaer said of Bongino, who has 'disappointed a lot of those grassroots followers in saying there's nothing to see here.'
