Indian Long-Distance Runner Varsha Tekam Banned For 3 Years For Evading Dope Test
Indian long-distance runner Varsha Tekam has been handed a three-year suspension for evading a dope test, as announced by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Thursday.
Varsha secured second place in last year's Pune Half Marathon with a time of 1:26:22 and was provisionally suspended on May 26.
The AIU stated that Varsha was suspended for 'evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection by an athlete" under Article 2.3.
The AIU announced on X that Varsha Tekam (India) has been banned for three years from May 20, 2025, for evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection by an athlete, and disqualified results from December 15, 2024.
Varsha returned a signed 'Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Acceptance of Consequences Form," confirming her admission to the violation and acceptance of the ineligibility period on Tuesday.
Due to her admission and acceptance of the sanction, Varsha was granted a one-year reduction in the suspension period under Rule 10.8.1 ADR.
