New Rangers takeover chiefs tell fans their three point plan as San Francisco 49ers' Ibrox priorities set

Daily Recorda day ago

The long running takeover saga has finally been completed as the bosses turn focus to getting a head coach on board.
The new era at Rangers is officially rubberstamped.
And the US consortium of investors, led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have opened up to fans for the first time.

They have shared their plans going forward for the Ibrox club which simply put is winning trophies on the domestic front and competing at the top end of European football.

A new manager is the clear first priority for the group who state the process - as we know - is well down the line and hope to share further updates on the search for Philippe Clement 's permanent successor soon.
As part of the open letter to supporters, new chairman and vice chairman Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have thanked the previous board and told fans the three things they've felt that set Rangers apart as a club.
It reads: "Dear Rangers supporters. We are proud to be entering a new chapter for this extraordinary club.

"This moment is the result of months of thoughtful discussions with club leadership and our shared confidence in Rangers' success going forward. To that end we'd like to tell you a bit about our thinking.
"Simply put – our goal is to win trophies in Scotland and be able to compete at a high level in Europe, while laying a foundation of financial sustainability for the future.
"As our first step, we are investing fresh capital into Rangers, which will be strategically deployed on and off the pitch. While we recognise the importance of resources, we believe that thoughtful, disciplined investment, guided by a clear strategy, is the path to enduring success.

"Every decision, whether sporting or business, will be made with the club's long-term success and sustainability in mind.
"We aim to leverage the full strength of 49ers Enterprises' sporting expertise and operational experience, and are confident in Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell to lead this next phase.

"Our first priority together is clear: hiring a new men's head coach. That process is already well underway, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon. We will also look to invest in talent for our teams.
"Moving forward, we are reconstituting the board to bring in a few new voices and skill sets. We all owe a special thanks to the previous board for their service.
"They stepped up in a difficult moment when the club needed them and laid the foundation for what comes next.

"Above all, we know that true success comes from understanding and honouring what makes this club special.
"In our time getting to know Ibrox, Glasgow, and you, we've felt the pride, history, and passion that set Rangers apart.
"You have made it clear what this club means to you, and we take the responsibility of leading this club seriously.
"We look forward to seeing you at Ibrox soon. For now, we'll keep working, and we can't wait for what's ahead."

World's largest car maker confirms it WILL build hot hatch in UK and invest £40million in a new assembly line

THE world's biggest car maker has confirmed it will build a popular hot hatch in the UK from next year as demand soars. Toyota says it will manufacture the GR Corolla from Burnaston, Derbyshire in a bid to ramp up production. 3 The GR Corolla is currently only available in Japan Credit: Toyota 3 Camry vehicles move down the assembly line at the Toyota Motor Corp. manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Kentucky Credit: Getty 3 Toyota's car plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire Credit: PA:Press Association It follows reports that the car maker was planning to invest around £41 million into the new line. Toyota has denied that the move is related to Trump's tariffs, which place a 25% import tax on cars from Japan compared to just 10% from the UK. The announcement has further fulled speculation that the popular model, which is currently only available in specific markets, could soon be launched in Europe. The GR Corolla is currently only available in Japan - and is exported to North America and certain other markets. Prototypes were spotted being tested at Germany's Nürburgring last year, leading to speculation of a launch according to Autocar. However, a spokesperson suggested it was standard to test global products there - but did not deny the prospect of a European launch. Toyota currently sells the GR Yaris and the GR Supra in Europe. Yoshihiro Nakata, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, said: "We are proud that TMUK, our first plant in Europe, has also been selected as the first overseas Toyota plant to produce GR vehicles, securing this expansion project for TGR worldwide. "We very much appreciate the historical support and recognition of the United Kingdom and would like to continue to contribute to UK society as a 'Best in Town' company." The Burnaston plant currently produces Toyota's Corolla hatchback and estate for British and European markets. Popular car brand to launch new EV as company teases 'hammerhead' design to rival the Volvo EC40 But the proposed new investment could see production rates significantly boosted. Previous Reuters reports suggest that it could give the plant a capacity of 10,000 cars per year. The reports add that Toyota's Motomachi plant in Japan, which handles GR output, is currently at full capacity. Burnaston built its five millionth car since opening in 1992 last year. Toyota invested a staggering £240million to upgrade the Burnaston plant back in 2017. Then Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark said at the time: 'Our automotive sector is one of the most productive in the world and Toyota's decision to invest £240 million upgrading its Burnaston plant is a further boost to the UK auto sector. "I also welcome the prospect of investment to take Toyota New Global Architecture into the supply chain. "Toyota is one of the world's largest car producers and this inward investment underlines the company's faith in its employees and will help ensure the plant is well positioned for future Toyota models to be made in the UK. "As we prepare to leave the EU, this Government is committed through our Industrial Strategy to ensuring the UK remains one of the best places in the world to do business and we are able to help businesses seize on economic opportunities.'

George Russell left with Spanish GP concern despite Mercedes return to form

George Russell matched Max Verstappen's time in Spanish Grand Prix qualifying and Kimi Antonelli also returned to form after difficult weekends for Mercedes in Imola and Monaco George Russell was left worried about whether Mercedes have actually improved their race pace after a return to qualifying form. The Brit will start the Spanish Grand Prix fourth on the grid and was unlucky not to be one place higher. He set the exact same time as Max Verstappen but, because the Red Bull racer got his lap in first, Russell was classified one place below. They will share the second row behind the two McLaren cars of pole-sitter Oscar Piastri and his drivers' title rival Lando Norris. ‌ It was a welcome return to form in the final qualifying session of this European triple header of races that have been tough for Mercedes. Russell slipped from third to seventh at Imola while both he and team-mate Kimi Antonelli finished pointless in Monaco. ‌ But it remains to be seen whether the Silver Arrows will have the race pace to compete in Barcelona. They have been working hard to improve that aspect of their car but Russell worries his strong qualifying performance may indicate that his car is still geared too much towards one-lap pace. That's where it's been all season and again today. It's good we managed to get into Q3 on only two sets of tyres so we have a new soft tyre for tomorrow which is a valid race tyre – that's a positive. We know that the car isn't quick on Sundays. "We also made a lot of changes to the car this weekend to try to improve the race pace, so to see that we haven't really hindered qualifying pace is a positive – but then also it may mean it's not going to improve the race pace. Mercedes have struggled in high temperatures and the track is set to be blistering hot in the Spanish sun on Sunday. "Tomorrow's going to be an interesting one for us," Russell added. "We struggled a lot when it was the soft compound of tyres when it was hot but when it was the hard compound of tyres in Bahrain and it was hot we finished second there." ‌ After back-to-back failures to reach Q3 in Imola and Monaco, Antonelli seemed a relieved man to put his car further up the grid for the Spain race. The 18-year-old split the two Ferrari cars in sixth, despite being at a tyre disadvantage. He said: "I struggled a little bit to get into a rhythm at the start of the session, and it put me in a position where I only had one new set for Q3 which was not really ideal, because the difference from used to new [tyres] was quite big. Overall, I think I'm decently happy with the performance. "There was a bit of time here and there, but tomorrow is going to be a lot about race pace. We're going to race at the hottest time of the day so degradation is going to be something to look at. It's not going to be easy but, overall, we've been doing a lot of long runs so we have quite decent data. We're also aware that the others are very fast, so let's see. I'm ready to do my best."
