Rangers to appoint second ex-Everton man as Koppen departs

Koppen is on his way out of Ibrox as he gets set to step down from his role as technical director days after Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises took a controlling stake in the club. The new owners are looking to restructure things behind the scenes but it's understood the Belgian's exit is not a reflection on the work he has carried out. Koppen's departure will be announced tomorrow and Rangers Review has now delivered the update that Purdy will start work on the same day. It comes with ex-Toffees director of football officially starting as the Light Blues' new sporting director. Davide Ancelotti tells Rangers he's ready to rock as manager target left excited by Andrew Cavenagh talks

Ancelotti desperately wants the job and has put Rangers ahead of offers from back home in Italy Davide Ancelotti has told Rangers bosses he's ready to step out of his legendary father's shadow and be a success in his own right. The Ibrox club are set to make a next boss call on Ancelotti or Russell Martin in the early part of next week as the American revolution swings into action. ‌ Rangers' new US owners completed their takeover on Friday and are preparing to name their man after holding a final round of talks this weekend. ‌ Ancelotti desperately wants the job and has put Rangers ahead of offers from back home in Italy including newly-promoted Serie A side Pisa. The 35-year-old has been assistant to his dad Carlo at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and most recently Real Madrid. He could have followed his old man who has now taken over the Brazil national side. But having mulled over his future last week on a family holiday, Ancelotti has decided he is ready to take the next step and become an outright number one. ‌ It's understood the fresh start under new owners Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises excites the Italian who has sold his Ibrox blueprint on the club in a series of interviews. New sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially starts work on Monday morning - which will mark 99 days since Philippe Clement was sacked - and is set to make a final decision in the coming days. Thelwell has been leading the hunt backed by 49ers Enterprises technical director Gretar Steinsson. ‌ Former Southampton boss Martin is also understood to have impressed in interviews. Martin was sacked by Saints in December with the club bottom of the Premier league on just five points from 16 games but feels ready to jump back into top level management. Francesco Farioli and Brian Priske had also been sounded out while Steven Gerrard took himself out of the running after talks. ‌ The new boss will be backed to the tune of almost £20m under the new owners' initial investment. They know the clock is ticking on getting a squad in place and ready to hit the ground running with the qualifiers for the Champions League just 51 days away. Rangers players return for pre-season training on June 23, the same day as an EGM has been arranged where shareholders will be asked to approve the £20m investment. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
