Walmart is selling a 'heavy-duty' $250 string trimmer for 40% off, and shoppers say it provides 'excellent power'
If your outdoor space is looking more like a jungle than a yard, Walmart is here to help. The super store is offering super deals on everything from power saws to tool sheds right now, including a 40% markdown on a bestselling string trimmer that's perfect for springtime yardwork.
The PowerSmart Gas String Trimmer is on sale for $150, which is $100 off the original $250 price tag. Shoppers say it 'runs smoothly' and employs 'excellent power.'
With the proper amount of gas, this string trimmer can handle everything you throw at it. Its four-cycle engine helps make quick work of weeds and the 3-in-1 design lets you customize your cut and trimming line. And when you do run out of string, this trimmer uses a rapid reload spool that makes replacing the line a breeze. Best of all, this purchase includes a brush cutter and trimmer head so that this device never wears down (not to mention, it ships for free).
'This product is amazing,' one reviewer began. 'We were looking for something a little bit more heavy-duty because the weeds in the backyard had gotten to be about 3-feet tall and we knew a conventional lawn mower or a small weed eater was not going to do it. We used the brush cutter attachment that came with it and in no time my husband was done.'Weighing less than 16 pounds, the trimmer is easy to use and carry around your backyard space. It also features a detachable shaft that lets the device break down into a compact size for easy storage.
'It was surprisingly quieter than I thought it would be,' another shopper said. 'It is well-built and the fit and finish is very good. I highly recommend it.'
The PowerSmart Gas String Trimmer is a Walmart bestseller, so don't expect it to stay in stock forever. Add it to your cart ASAP before the $100 in savings expire.

Engine Teardown Reveals A Simple Error That Destroys The Reliable M257 Engine
Engine Teardown Reveals A Simple Error That Destroys The Reliable M257 Engine originally appeared on Autoblog. One Of Mercedes' Most Prolific Engines No engine is perfect, but some are so well engineered that they're close enough, and the Mercedes M276 DE 35, a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, is one of them. The engine has its minor common faults, like oil leaks and problematic camshaft adjusters/cam followers, but it was so good that, with the exception of front-wheel-drive-based vehicles like the A-Class and B-Class, Mercedes put it in everything it could between 2010-2017 - ML 350, C 350, E 350, S 350, GLE 350 (ML 350 replacement), and GLK 350. However, as YouTube channel I Do Cars shows in a teardown of a core exchange M276 (embedded at the bottom of this article), ignoring the small issues can lead to massive ones. With no VIN plate, mileage history, or other information, the only way to determine what killed this typically reliable engine is one step at a time. Deceiving Deconstruction View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Before anything is done, we can see a hole in the oil pan, and combined with the fact that the crankshaft refuses to turn over, this is worrying. However, with no evidence of a connecting rod escaping the black, and since this is a non-running core exchange engine, it's clear that the oil pan has simply been swapped from another broken motor. A good sign for the parts reseller is that no part of the electrical harness appears to have been torn, so whoever removed the engine (from a 2014 or 2015 ML 350) did it carefully. Moving on, this direct injection motor shows plenty of evidence of carbon buildup and some minor oil seepage in the head, but the valvetrain seems nearly perfect. At least, it did until the valve cover was pulled, showing a worn cam follower with scoring on the camshaft, too. Cam lobes also show some evidence of wear, but not enough to affect the journal bearings. Without complete timing failure, these factors are not to blame for this particular motor's failure. That becomes apparent under the timing cover, once the head is removed. The Cause Of The M257's Failure And How To Avoid It After removing the water pump, oil pump, and tensioners, and loosening the end caps, the crankshaft finally turns, allowing the removal of the main bearings (one of which was badly scored, though journal bearings were okay). The block looks good, with only some minor scoring on the cylinder walls, and there's no shrapnel in the oil filter or even the residual lubricant in the head. Thus, the diagnosis is this: an unaddressed minor oil leak spilled onto the serpentine belt. Over time, the belt became saturated and lost its tension, allowing it to move slightly backward and forward. Unfortunately for the original owner of this engine, this time, the belt moved toward the back of the engine, being sucked behind the crank pulley (N54 owners can relate). A loose belt is already bad for timing, but bits of the devoured belt then knocked the oil pump chain off its gear and onto the crank, where it got compressed. This, along with pieces of the crank seal and serpentine belt being in a tight space where they don't belong, led to an overextension of one of the oil pump tensioners, causing the oil pump to seize. The moment that happened, the engine died, and as the car coasted to the side of the road, the crank had already made its last rotation under power. This explains the lack of metal debris in the oil filter and other areas; the oil pump had no time to circulate any more oil once the first main bearing was scored. So what can you do? First, don't ignore oil leaks, even if minor. Even if they don't lead to this specific issue, this engine is notorious for dripping oil onto harness connectors, and if some of it gets into the ECU plug, that ECU is toast. Second, ensure that oil services and top-ups are performed with a funnel to avoid unnecessary drips on finicky components. And finally, don't just replace fluids and filters - tensioners have a limited lifespan, too. The M257 is one of the most reliable modern Mercedes engines ever, but it needs care and maintenance nonetheless. Target makes bold pricing promise, delivery change
Target has never had the billions Walmart and Amazon have been able to spend investing in faster delivery. It can't blanket the nation with warehouses, create its own shipping company, lease planes, and deploy a fleet of drones. The retail chain, however, can leverage its warehouse footprint and make smart choices like its investment in Shipt, a same-day shipping service Target TGT bought in 2017. Related: Costco's gift cards come with a surprising problem At the time, the deal was the largest purchase Target ever made at $550 million. Now, just a few years later, that price seems like a steal when you look at the billions Walmart and Target have spent. Then Target COO John Mulligan made it clear at the time that Target was focused on faster delivery. "Same-day delivery is a service that our guests are asking for more and more often. By acquiring Shipt, we'll be able to take advantage of our network of stores and Shipt's technology platform and shopper community to quickly offer same-day delivery to millions of our guests," he shared. Target rolled that out very quickly and now plans to evolve its delivery business even further. Shipt will be a key part of that as the company continues to work smarter with lower budgets than its rivals. One of the dirty secrets of delivery is that many stores have different prices for delivery and in-person shopping. That's common in both the retail and restaurant delivery spaces, but many customers don't actually know that. Target has come out to make it very clear that it's not going to take advantage of its customers who want delivery. CEO Brian Cornell spoke about his chain's efforts during its first-quarter earnings call. "Finally, as we focus on building engagement with new and existing Target Circle 360 members, we're implementing changes to make same-day delivery even more affordable through an industry-leading offering," he added. More Retail: Troubled retailer files Chapter 11 bankruptcy, liquidates storesWayfair struggles to reverse concerning customer behaviorWalmart introduces mobile new store format for younger customers The CEO then shared a big promise. "As you know, for items delivered same day from Target, we've never marked up prices. And now we're extending that policy for all other retailers on the platform," he added. Unlike Walmart or Amazon, Target's Shipt has relationships with other major retailers. Cornell and Target want people to join Shipt and will sacrifice some sales to make that happen. "Beginning this week, we've introduced no price markups on same-day delivery for the more than 100 retailers available on Shipt's marketplace," he shared. The CEO then mildly went on the offensive. "Many membership programs provide access to only one retailer, and others offer deliveries from multiple retailers but charge additional fees. With Target Circle 360, members get unlimited same-day delivery with a personal shopper and access to Shipt's marketplace of more than 100 other retailers like Petco, CVS, Lowe's, popular grocers and more," he shared. Walmart does offer a similar pricing policy. Walmart's price guarantee: Walmart Delivery or Pickup: Items delivered from a Walmart store will have identical prices to what you'd see Orders (Grocery): Similarly, prices are the same as in-store when you choose pickup. Target COO Michael Fiddelke made it clear that delivery remains a growth area for Target. "We see a lot of room to continue increasing the adoption of services like Drive Up and same-day delivery while we also expand next-day shipping to more and more guests over time. Among our same-day services, we're seeing the most rapid growth in same-day delivery powered by Target Circle 360, which increased by more than 35% this quarter," he shared. Target Same-Day Delivery (via Target or Shipt) Uses local store pricing for items delivered the same day, matching what you'd pay if you shopped in-store at that and Target Circle deals apply just the same as if you were shopping in-store, provided you're signed in and have the right extra markup on same-day delivery orders made by Target Circle 360 members from Target and many partner retailers (e.g., groceries, pet stores, CVS, etc.) as of early 2025. Asda to complete botched IT transition six months late
Asda is on the brink of finishing its botched £1bn IT upgrade six months later than planned, with bosses hopeful that the delayed transition will bolster the supermarket's turnaround efforts. The troubled retail giant has told staff that it plans to finally disentangle its computer systems from former owner Walmart within weeks, as it moves the last-remaining stores to an entirely new digital network. It will bring an end to what has been a painful transition process for Asda, which has spent four years trying to complete the programme, dubbed Project Future. The supermarket had initially been aiming to finish the upgrade in February earlier this year. However, the project has been hit with a series of setbacks, including an IT update in March last year that led to thousands of workers receiving incorrect payslips. Delays had also put Asda at risk of a hefty fine after missing a cut-off date with Walmart, although the US retailer ultimately agreed to a revised timeframe. Hundreds of workers have been let go in the months leading up to the end of Project Future, which has been described by Asda as 'mission critical' to its revival plans. The upgrade was championed by Mohsin Issa, Asda's co-owner, who previously managed the supermarket between 2021 and 2024. He has since been replaced by Allan Leighton, who returned to the business as chairman in November. Mr Leighton has since argued that the retailer is not rushing efforts to improve its performance, saying earlier this year: 'There is absolutely no pressure on me or the business to come up with a quick fix. 'A quick fix would be completely the wrong thing to do.' He has, however, embarked on a major drive to win back shoppers – slashing prices and overhauling tired stores. Asda said profits would be materially lower this year as it seeks to reverse years of decline following the takeover by TDR Capital and the Issa brothers in 2021. The most recent figures from World Panel show that Asda's market share slipped from 12.8pc to 11.8pc in the year to the middle of July. That is compard to 15pc the time of its takeover in 2021. However, in May, Mr Leighton said sales data suggested performance was improving, saying: 'What we're looking at here is the business turning.'
