Qatar Chamber participates in IRU General Assembly meeting
DOHA: Qatar Chamber has taken part in the General Assembly meeting of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Chamber was represented by Board Member, President of the Qatar Association for Freight Forwarding and Logistics (QAFL) and Vice Chair of the Region Africa and Middle East (RAME) for the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) Eng Ali bin Abdullatif Al Misned.
The meeting featured a roundtable discussion on road transport and competitiveness and covered key agenda items, including the speech by IRU President Radu Dinescu, the General Assembly and financial reports, and a review of the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
In statements, Al Misned emphasized that such meetings serve as a strategic international platform for enhancing cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the fields of transport and logistics. He noted that they open broader avenues for member countries to achieve integration and competitiveness across land and logistics supply chains.
"Our participation in this important event reflects Qatar's commitment to reinforcing its position as an integrated logistics hub and advancing infrastructure development to facilitate regional and international land trade," he stated.
He underscored the rapid changes underway in the global road transport sector, which call for deeper cooperation and the adoption of smart, sustainable solutions.
He also highlighted Qatar Chamber's dedication to playing an active role in shaping the future of transportation through its contributions to the IRU.
Al Misned further highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the need to enhance the competitiveness of the transportation sector.
He referred to the initiatives outlined in the IRU's collective call to action titled "Driving Competitiveness, A Collective Call to Action," which emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and policy alignment to strengthen global transport systems.
He also underscored the importance of supporting the IRU's efforts in training and talent development, particularly through initiatives such as the IRU Award for Top Road Transport Managers 2025.
He affirmed that investing in human capital remains a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development in the transport and logistics sector.

QC receives Tanzanian delegation representing contracting sector

He also reaffirmed Qatar Chamber's full readiness to cooperate with Tanzanian companies interested in working with the Qatari private sector, and to coordinate with the relevant trade authorities in Tanzania to explore ways to boost bilateral trade. Al-Ahbabi noted that the Chamber has previously received several trade delegations from Tanzania representing various sectors and that ongoing communication exists with the Tanzanian private sector. The delegation presented several major infrastructure projects in Tanzania and invited Qatari companies to participate in these projects—either in partnership with the public sector or through forming alliances with Tanzanian firms. They also highlighted the incentives their country offers to attract foreign investments.

Qatar's trade with Malaysia grows 80% to QR5.2 billion: QC
Tribune News Network Doha Trade relations between Qatar and Malaysia have witnessed remarkable growth, with bilateral trade increasing by 80 percent in 2024 to reach QR5.2 billion, up from QR2.9 billion in 2023, according to Rashid bin Hamad Al Athba, second vice chairman of Qatar Chamber. Al Athba made the announcement during the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Forum held in the Malaysian capital on Wednesday. The event brought together senior government officials, business leaders, and investors from ASEAN, GCC countries, and China to explore economic cooperation and strategic investments across key sectors. Qatar Chamber participated in the forum with a delegation headed by Al Athba and included board members Eng Ali bin Abdul Latif Al Misnad and Nasser bin Suleiman Al Haidar. The forum featured high-level sessions on boosting investment between ASEAN, GCC, and China, the role of artificial intelligence in transforming industries, and accelerating growth in energy and logistics sectors across the ASEAN region. On the sidelines of the forum, Al Athba held bilateral meetings with regional leaders to strengthen economic ties. He met with Minister of Finance and Economy of Brunei Dato Amin Abdullah where both sides discussed opportunities for collaboration and the signing of new cooperation agreements with the Brunei Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Al Athba also met with Malaysia's Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong. The two discussed ways to deepen trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Malaysia, as well as enhancing mutual investments in diverse sectors. Speaking to the media, Al Athba emphasised the readiness of Qatar's private sector to expand cooperation with ASEAN countries. 'ASEAN is one of the world's fastest-growing economic regions, strategically located on global trade routes and home to a population of approximately 690 million. These attributes make it highly attractive to Gulf investors looking to scale their global footprint,' he said. He called on business leaders in ASEAN countries and China to explore Qatar's dynamic business environment, benefit from the investment incentives on offer, and form commercial alliances with Qatari companies. Qatar, Argentina seek to boost trade beyond QR366 million
Tribune News Network Doha Mohammed bin Mahdi Al-Ahbabi, Member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Chamber, received Hernán Lombardi, Minister of Economic Development of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and his accompanying delegation at the Chamber's headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the commercial and economic fields, and ways to enhance them. The two sides also reviewed the investment climate in both countries and the available investment opportunities that businesspeople from both sides can capitalize on to strengthen trade exchanges. Al-Ahbabi praised the distinguished relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Argentina, pointing out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached about QAR 366 million in 2024. He noted that this figure does not reflect the true potential and mutual ambitions, emphasizing the need to work diligently to boost trade cooperation by encouraging the private sector to establish joint ventures in both Qatar and Argentina. Al-Ahbabi also highlighted the presence of nine Argentine companies registered with Qatar Chamber and operating in the Qatari market in partnership with Qatari firms.
