Texans safety Jimmie Ward was arrested on Thursday morning.
Per information from the Montgomery County, Texas jail, via the Houston Chronicle, Ward was arrested at his home early on Thursday and is currently being held without bond. He is facing a a felony assault family violence charge and no other details of the circumstances leading to his arrest are known.
'We are aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward,' the Texans said in a statement. 'We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.'
Ward, who is in his third season with the Texans, has not been practicing this spring after having foot surgery. He started all 20 games he played over the last two seasons.

He also pledged to target Big Tech, support law enforcement, and defend constitutional rights. 'I led the fight on virtually every major legal campaign that Texans care about,' said Reitz, referring to his time under Paxton. 'I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Paxton to challenge the 2020 election when others ran scared.' His campaign announcement included praise from Trump, who described Reitz as 'a true MAGA attorney' and 'a warrior for our Constitution.' Reitz becomes the latest Republican to announce a campaign for attorney general, joining State Sen. Mayes Middleton. The race comes as current Attorney General Ken Paxton is not seeking re-election and is instead running for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. After Reitz resigned from his federal position yesterday, he was greeted with support from those in the Trump administration, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.

Jimmie Ward free on $30,000 bail, faces a third-degree felony domestic violence charge
Texans safety Jimmie Ward was released on $30,000 bail set by a magistrate Thursday afternoon, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports. Ward, 33, was booked on charges of assault family violence impeding breath/circulation, a third-degree felony under Texas law. Montgomery County deputies were called to Ward's home at 5:30 a.m. Thursday. Ward's fiancé alleges he assaulted, strangled and threatened her, according to Wilson. She filed an emergency protective order against Ward. The Texans and the NFL both acknowledged they were aware of Ward's arrest. Ward has not practiced in the offseason as he rehabs from foot surgery.

(Photo by) Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was arrested Thursday morning on a felony assault family violence charge in Montgomery County, Texas, according to reporting by Catherine Dominguez and Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. Ward, 33, was accused of strangulation at his home in Magnolia, where he was arrested around 5:30 a.m., per information from the Montgomery County Jail, via the Chronicle. "We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time." Ward signed with the Texans during the 2023 offseason and was voted a team captain in both 2023 and 2024. The former San Francisco 49er is under contract with Houston through 2025. His deal was expiring in 2024, but the Texans added another year to it last summer. Ward is owed $4.5 million. He has yet to participate in offseason workouts this year. He's still recovering from the sprained foot he suffered in December last season, an injury that required season-ending surgery. Advertisement Although he hasn't been seen this week at Texans mandatory minicamp, according to the Chronicle, he has been in the building this offseason for treatment. Ward played in 10 regular-season games last season, piling up 461 defensive snaps along the way, according to Pro Football Focus. Just like the previous season, he recorded only a 5.5% missed tackle rate, per PFF, this time ranking 10th in that category among all NFL safeties with at least 300 regular-season defensive snaps in 2024. He finished ninth on the team with 48 total tackles, with 32 being solos and 5 being TFLs. In 2023, Ward played a part in the Texans going from worst to first in the AFC South. He also played under Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans in San Francisco, where Ryans previously served as defensive coordinator. Advertisement He played in only 10 games during the 2023 season, too, but his impact was felt as he tallied 50 total tackles, picked off a pass while defending three others and forced a fumble. The 2014 first-round pick out of Northern Illinois flexed his positional versatility, marking his first of two straight seasons in Houston with more than 100 defensive snaps in the box, in the slot and at deep safety, per PFF. The Texans notably added former Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson this offseason. Second-year safety Calen Bullock is expected to play a big role for Houston this season as well.
