Telangana cleans up voter rolls: 30,000 duplicates deleted via ERONET; voter ID-Aadhaar link hits 67%, says CEO C Sudarshan Reddy
HYDERABAD: Telangana chief electoral officer C Sudarshan Reddy on Tuesday said that around 30,000 duplicate voters were deleted across the state as part of a voter list verification using Electoral Roll Officers' Network (ERONET) data from the
Election Commission of India
.
In all, 58,000 duplicate records were identified both within constituencies in Telangana and across states, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Digital integration
"Booth level officers (BLOs) conducted house-to-house verification. Out of 58,000 duplicate entries, 30,000 were deleted. Voters found residing in Telangana were not touched," he said.
Coordination is underway with AP and TN. Reddy said the ECI is introducing a cap of 1,200 voters per polling station.
A mobile phone deposit facility will be made available at polling stations.
Campaign booth distance will also be reduced from 200 metres to 100 metres. "Polling stations will be set up inside residential welfare associations and high-rise buildings. The polling station radius will be reduced from 2 km to 1 km," he said. The ECI is integrating its voter list system with the Registrar General of India to enable automatic deletion of deceased voters, he said.

"This linkage will be routed through the CEO's office to district-level birth and death registrars," he said. Reddy said the ECI's new digital platform, ECINET, will combine 40 applications and services under a single portal.
Aadhaar Linkage
He said voter ID-Aadhaar linkage in rural areas of Telangana has reached 84% while the overall linkage in the state was 67%. Around one lakh BLOs and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across India will be trained.
"Twenty-six BLOs from Telangana will be trained at IIIDEM, Delhi. Monthly review meetings with state CEOs are also being held," he said.

No fight with Muslims: New Bengal BJP chief
KOLKATA: BJP "is not fighting Muslims... and the state's plurality needs to be saved", Samik Bhattacharya said Thursday, soon after taking over as the party's new state president. "There is a conscious effort to divide Bengal on the basis of religion. The minority community should understand we are not fighting against them. We are fighting against the forces that shove stones in their boys' hands. We want to replace thosestones with books. We want to replace the swords in their hands with pens," he said. Bhattacharya's line contrasts sharply with the shrill anti-Muslim pitch adopted by his BJP colleague and assembly opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari, and comes after his party's abject defeat in Kaliganj assembly bypoll. Kaliganj is a Muslim-majority constituency in Nadia. BJP was the only party that saw its vote share dip (from 31% in 2021 to 28.2% now), prompting TMC to emphasise how BJP had failed to hold on to even its majority community votes. It remains to be seen whether Bhattacharya's party colleagues keep up their anti-Muslim pitch even as he takes a conciliatory approach, which would indicate the party has hit on a good cop-bad cop strategy with Bengal's approximately 2.5 crore Muslim voters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Look at Bengal's villages. "BJP wants visarjan and Muharram processions to walk side by side without any malice against each other. We do not want riots. We want the minority youth to know Bengal through the eyes of Syed Mujtaba Ali and Kazi Nazrul Islam, not terrorists. We want to save Bengal's plurality," Bhattacharya said while the Bengal BJP leadership and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad were on the dais.

Trump's ‘Big Beautiful Bill' set to transform your taxes: Here's how
In a razor-thin 216-214 vote, the House has passed the Senate's version of President Donald Trump 's sweeping tax legislation, known as the 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act.' The bill, which now heads to the president's desk, brings $4.5 trillion in tax breaks and spending cuts, promising major changes for millions of American taxpayers. Here are the five most significant ways this bill will reshape your taxes, according to verified details from Forbes and other leading sources. 1. Individual tax rates locked in- no increases for a decade The bill makes permanent the individual income tax rate cuts first enacted under the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This means the top tax rate remains at 37%, and lower rates for other brackets are also locked in for at least 10 years. Taxpayers will not face a scheduled rate hike in 2026, translating to continued savings for many households. 2. SALT deduction cap quadrupled, but with new limits A major win for residents of high-tax states: the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap jumps from $10,000 to $40,000 starting in 2025. This cap will increase by 1% annually through 2029. However, the benefit phases out for those earning over $500,000, with the cap reverting to $10,000 in 2030. Taxpayers can only claim this deduction if they itemize, and the standard deduction will be $30,000 for joint filers and $15,000 for singles in 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo 3. Bigger child tax credit and new 'Trump accounts' for kids The child tax credit rises to $2,200 per child starting in 2025. This directly reduces your tax bill, though the refundable portion for lower-income families remains capped at $1,600. The phase-out for high earners also continues. Additionally, the bill introduces $1,000 'Trump Accounts' for children born between 2024 and 2029, which can be invested for education, a first home, or starting a business, with favorable tax treatment on qualified withdrawals. 4. Tax breaks for tips, overtime, and car loan interest A headline-grabbing feature: tips are now tax-free up to $25,000 for workers in eligible professions, with income limits of $150,000 for singles and $300,000 for couples. Overtime pay is also deductible up to $12,500 ($25,000 for couples), and there's a new $10,000 deduction for car loan interest for those earning under $100,000 ($200,000 for couples). These deductions are federal only—state taxes may still apply. Live Events 5. Extra relief for seniors and heirs Seniors over 65 get a new $6,000 tax deduction (income limits apply), while the federal estate tax exemption jumps to $15 million. This means more wealth can be passed to heirs tax-free, though state estate taxes may still apply. These changes are expected to prompt new estate planning strategies for affluent families. Fiscal impact and controversy While the bill brings substantial tax relief, it is projected to increase the federal deficit by up to $4.5 trillion over the next decade. Critics argue the bill disproportionately benefits the wealthy, with the top 0.1% expected to receive average annual tax cuts of $309,000, while some lower-income households could see tax increases beginning in 2029.

EC admitted 20% would fall off voter list: Congress
NEW DELHI: A day after opposition parties met EC to oppose the special electoral list revision in Bihar, Congress Thursday alleged the poll watchdog had conceded to the delegation that it "assumes" 20% of voters will be weeded out in the review, and termed EC's stance a "threat" to the Constitution and marginalised communities like SC/ST/OBCs. Its ally CPI(ML) Liberation threatened to launch an huge agitation against the exercise, saying the opposition's pleas to EC had fallen on deaf ears. Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram alleged EC is working on a conspiracy to remove two crore of the eight crore-plus voters, with a focus on migrant workers. Addressing the media with AICC state in-charge Krishna Allavaru and spokesman Pawan Khera, Ram said it is not possible for the poor in Bihar "to produce documents like a birth certificate that they have never had before", that too in 30 days. But EC appeared to have made up its mind and was not receptive to concerns expressed by the opposition, he said. Allavaru said the same eight crore-plus voters had voted in the Lok Sabha polls a year ago, and now their credentials are being questioned. "Yesterday, EC twice said it assumes 20% of voters will be out of the voter list," he said, adding, "EC should be losing sleep over 2% voters being left out, and here it is talking so casually about leaving out 20% voters". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal?
