Paramount Cutting Another 3.5% Of Its Domestic Workforce, Citing Linear TV Declines And Broader Economy

Paramount Global, which last year shed 15% of its U.S. workforce, said Tuesday it will reduce it by another 3.5%. The cuts will take effect Tuesday, according to a memo from Co-CEOs George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins that was obtained by Deadline. More from Deadline Paramount Global CFO Naveen Chopra Is Departing '60 Minutes' Correspondent Scott Pelley Says Trump Lawsuit Settlement & Apology Would Be "Very Damaging" To Reputation Of CBS And Paramount Shari Redstone Reveals She Is Undergoing Treatment For Thyroid Cancer 'As we navigate the continued industry-wide linear declines and dynamic macro-economic environment, while prioritizing investments in our growing streaming business, we are taking the hard, but necessary steps to further streamline our organization starting this week,' the execs wrote. Paramount is still in a protracted waiting game as it looks to close its $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. The transaction was proposed last summer and needs only the approval of the FCC in order to close, but it now appears unlikely to close in the first half of the year as the companies had projected. President Donald Trump's crusade against the media (in this case CBS News) is holding up the deal despite the fact that Paramount controlling shareholder Shari Redstone and Skydance backer Larry Ellison are longtime Trump supporters. Along with filing a $20 billion lawsuit over routine business activities at 60 Minutes, Trump's appointee to chair the FCC, Brendan Carr, has slow-walked the agency's review of the merger. While mediation talks are ongoing in the lawsuit, hopes have not recently been high for a near-term settlement. While the new layoffs are targeting domestic workers, the Co-CEOs said they 'may also result in some impacts to our workforce outside the U.S. over time.' At the end of 2024, Paramount had 18,600 global employees, with Tuesday's cutbacks affecting several hundred in the U.S. As opposed to the multi-phase layoffs last year, which were announced in the summer and wrapped by year-end, the new round is taking effect Tuesday. 'We recognize how difficult this is and are very thankful for everyone's hard work and contributions,' the CEOs wrote. 'These changes are necessary to address the environment we are operating in and best position Paramount for success.' The shrinking of Paramount's workforce reflects contraction across the entire media sector, with Disney recently announcing a fresh round of cuts as companies reckon with cord-cutting's hit to their pay-TV revenues. SEATTLE - David Byrne announced his world tour will visit Seattle this fall, along with his new album, Who is the Sky? Keep reading to learn more about the show, ticket information and more about David Byrne. David Byrne will take the stage for two nights at Seattle's Paramount Theatre on November 11 and 12, 2025. It will mark his first time performing in Seattle since 2018. His world tour kicks off in September in the U.S. and goes international starting in January 2026. The band will feature 13 musicians, singers and dancers, with many members returning from the American Utopia band. Tickets will be available to purchase on Friday, June 13, and can be found on David Byrne's website. Eager fans can also sign up for Byrne's presale now through June 12 at 10 p.m. PT. The new album, set to release on Sept. 5, was produced by the Grammy-winning Kid Harpoon, who has worked with other modern hit performers like Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus. It features 12 songs that were arranged by Ghost Train Orchestra, a New York-based chamber ensemble. Byrne noted that the album will have "more story songs than usual." In addition, Byrne released his new single "Everybody Laughs," on June 10, which will make an appearance on the new album. The song was accompanied with a music video directed by Gabriel Barcia-Colombo. What they're saying "It took me a second to realize, oh yeah, these songs are personal, but with David's unique perspective on life in general," said Kid Harpoon (also known as Tom Hull). "Walking around New York listening to the demo of 'Everybody Laughs' was so joyous, because it made me feel like we're all the same – we all laugh, cry and sing. The thing about David that resonates with a lot of people is that he's in on the joke. He gets the absurdity of it all, and all of these personal observations are his perspective on it." David Byrne is an American musician and songwriter known for being the lead singer of Talking Heads. Some of the group's biggest hits are "Psycho Killer" and "Once in a Lifetime". When the new wave band went on hiatus, Byrne transitioned to a solo career in 1989. In total, the singer has released ten solo albums, with Who Is the Sky? set to be his 11th release. The 73-year-old has been making music for more than 50 years. The Source Information in this story comes from David Byrne's website. Deadline's Sound & Screen At SXSW London Saw Honor For Oscar Winner Anne Dudley And Music From ‘Chad Powers', ‘Shrinking' & More

Deadline's Sound & Screen event made its London debut during SXSW London on Saturday, honoring Oscar-winning composer Anne Dudley and featuring live performances from hit screen projects, including Shrinking and Arcane. On a rainy summer's day in London, Deadline provided a ray of musical sunshine for a packed audience at the historic Shoreditch Church. Dudley, who won an Academy prize for her work on The Full Monty, took to the stage to perform a medley of her work, including Poldark and Jeeves and Wooster. More from Deadline 'Cielo' Producers Talk Opportunities & Challenges Of Shooting In Bolivia: "It's Such An Extraordinary And Diverse Landscape" Tony Awards 2025: The Musical Performances Deadline's Tony Awards Live Blog She was awarded Sound & Screen's inaugural Impact Award, with Baz Bamigboye, Deadline columnist and master of ceremonies, presenting her with the prize following her performance. Dudley said the award would sit alongside her Oscar, Grammy, Brit, and Ivor Novello prizes, telling Bamigboye that there had been a 'sea change' in the opportunities for women in music and film. She also looked ahead to her next project, PBS Masterpiece's sweeping period drama The Forsytes, which is due to premiere this year. Dudley confirmed a second series is filming this summer. The lineup also included the composers: Natalie Holt with Chad Powers; Tom Howe with Shrinking and Dog Man; Nainita Desai with Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf and Secrets of the Penguin; and Alex Seaver with Arcane. Howe revealed that he planned to be involved in Season 4 of Ted Lasso, building on his work on previous seasons of Apple TV+'s Emmy-winning series. Filming starts in July/August, Howe confirmed, after he performed music from Shrinking, which is also featured on Apple. Elsewhere, Desai talked about her love of scoring natural history and why she felt connected to Love & Rage: Munroe Bergdorf, the documentary that premiered at SXSW on Friday. Holt discussed getting her head around American Football for Chad Powers, the upcoming Hulu series starring Glen Powell. Desai summed up her role like this: 'With film and TV composers, we have this kind of superpower. We have this ability to be able to manipulate people's emotions and make them feel something.' Fittingly, as Sound & Screen reached London, there was a musical tribute to Abbey Road, the iconic recording studio nestled in the north-west of the English capital. Instantly recognizable feature scores for Harry Potter, Goldeneye, and Jurassic World were performed. Mirek Stiles, head of audio products at Abbey Road Studios, told Deadline's Stewart Clarke that there were ongoing 'conversations' with Sam Mendes about recording the score for his four Beatles films at the studio. The Music Box Ensemble provided the orchestra for the event. Steve Morris and Marianne Haynes played violin, Triona Milne was on the viola, Chris Allen was the celloist, Kat Tinker was the pianist, Tommy Emmerton provided guitar, Chris Hill played the bass, and Ralph Salmins was on drums. Sound & Screen was produced in partnership with Abbey Road, PRS for Music, ASCAP, BMI, SCL and AWFC. { pmcCnx({ settings: { plugins: { pmcAtlasMG: { iabPlcmt: 1, }, pmcCnx: { singleAutoPlay: 'auto' } } }, playerId: "32fe25c4-79aa-406a-af44-69b41e969e71", mediaId: "e61910c9-95f0-4053-a1ad-f87c2449ee08", }).render("connatix_player_e61910c9-95f0-4053-a1ad-f87c2449ee08_2"); }); Best of Deadline Sean 'Diddy' Combs Sex-Trafficking Trial Updates: Cassie Ventura's Testimony, $10M Hotel Settlement, Drugs, Violence, & The Feds A Full Timeline Of Blake Lively & Justin Baldoni's 'It Ends With Us' Feud In Court, Online & In The Media Where To Watch All The 'John Wick' Movies: Streamers That Have All Four Films
