Here's a first look at the Google Personal Safety app's Expressive redesign (APK teardown)

Google's Personal Safety app is a one-stop shop for emergencies, allowing you to quickly get help, record video, and much more. Now, it looks like Google is bringing some changes to the app in line with its Material 3 Expressive visual style.

An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
We dug into a recent version of the Personal Safety app for Android (version 2025.06.12.772866699.3-release) and discovered that it's getting plenty of visual changes. These changes specifically apply to the emergency contacts menus. Check out the screenshots below.

There are quite a few Material 3 Expressive changes here, such as bold headers, info fields encased in a white box with dividing lines between each field, and redesigned toggles showing an X or tick. The Add contact option has also changed from a text-based field to a pill-shaped green button.
Another notable change, seen in the final screenshot, is that Google will offer a three-dot button for each contact. Tapping this button lets you quickly remove or reorder a contact. By contrast, the current UI gives you an 'X' icon next to each contact so you can quickly remove them. However, reordering your contacts requires you to tap the Reorder button at the top of the page, which then opens a new screen altogether. So the new UI might not be as convenient for removing contacts, but it seems more seamless for reordering them.
It's worth noting that this Expressive design will likely be exclusive to Android 16 QPR1, at least for now. That's because this Emergency Contacts functionality is also integrated into the core Android settings via the Safety and Emergency section, and Google is updating this section for Android 16 QPR1.
Nevertheless, this would be the latest Google app to get a fresh coat of paint ahead of Android 16 QPR1. These visual changes have already started rolling out to Chrome, Google Messages, the Phone app, and more.

Secure Your Gmail Now As Google Warns Of Password Attacks
Secure your Gmail account now as attacks confirmed. The Google Threat Intelligence Group has warned that UNC6293, a Russian state-sponsored hacking unit, is targeting Gmail users in a recent password-stealing threat campaign affecting users of the world's most popular email platform. This is just one of a string of attacks that stretch back over the years, but have now evolved to include sophisticated 2FA bypass threats, phishing attacks that appear to originate from Google itself, and highly believed hybrid attacks involving human hackers alongside AI-powered ones. Although Gmail is not the only email platform plagued by security threats, it's the large user base and the access to data that a Gmail account password provides that make it such an attractive target. Here's what you need to do to secure yours. How To Secure Your Gmail Account Against Password Hackers Gabby Roncone and Wesley Shields, from the Google Threat Intelligence Group, have published an in-depth report that confirmed one critical attack campaign, executed by Russian state-sponsored hackers who are part of the UNC6293 group, targeted Gmail users with lures designed to persuade them to create an application specific password to allow a third-party app access to their Gmail accounts. One such attack is described on LinkedIn by Kier Giles, a respected researcher of Russian power projections, who said, "Several of my email accounts have been targeted with a sophisticated account takeover that involved impersonating the U.S. State Department.' In mitigation of the UNC6293 application specific password attacks, the Google Threat Intelligence Group said that users have complete control over their ASP's and a notification is sent as soon as one is created to the Gmail account involved and any devices signed in using it, 'to ensure the user intended to enable this form of authentication.' Of course, these attacks involve a lot of social engineering, so protections need to run further than this, which is why Google operates the Advanced Protection Program 'intended for individuals at high risk of targeted attacks and exposure to other serious threats.' T-Mobile's new deal offers a double bonus for Android fans
T-Mobile has made some controversial decisions lately, some of which may have cost the company customers. In its first-quarter earnings report for 2025, the "Un-carrier" revealed that its customer churn was up five basis points year-over-year. That's the number who quit their service, and, obviously, it's not a good number for the company. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter T-Mobile did add customers, though, but only 495,000 new people signed up for a postpaid plan in the first quarter of 2025. That's 6% fewer than the number who committed to get their phone service from the carrier during the same time period in 2024. Customers may have been angry about T-Mobile raising the price of some legacy plans, and adding higher Regulatory Programs & Telco Recovery Fees. Customers have also had other issues to be mad about more recently as well, including the carrier publishing mainline plan prices on its Experience plans without including taxes for the first time since 2017. Still, T-Mobile isn't making all bad moves, and now, it seems like the company has been rolling out a host of generous offers in order to bring phone users back on board and get them to sign up again. One of those offers is now targeted towards Android users, and it offers a double bonus. T-Mobile's new deal offers an unusual perk for Android phones that you don't often see among phone giveaways. Specifically, the company has decided to give away more than just a phone. The company is giving away both a free Google Pixel 9a and Pixel Buds A-Series, which is a great pair of wireless earphones to go with your new phone device. Even better, you can get both the phone and the earbuds with no requirement that you trade in an existing device. Not only that, but the $35 activation fee is also being waived for a limited period of time. The result: Two free devices at virtually no cost. Of course, like pretty much all deals for cell phones, you will get the free devices in the form of a statement credit distributed over 24 months. While the Pixel 9a is a mid-range device, it is still a feature-packed phone that's more than good enough for money T-Mobile users. You'll get a top-notch camera, as well as access to Gemini AI, as well as a Tensor G4 chipset that provides plenty of power.
