Light at the end of decades: Electricity reaches 17 villages

The electrification of remote villages such as Katuljhora, Kattapar, Bodra, Bukmarka, Sambalpur, Gattegahan, Pugda, Amakodo, Pitemeta, Tatekasa, Kundalkal, Raymanhora, Nainguda, Metatodke, Kohkatola, Edasmeta, and Kunjkanhar was completed at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Officials highlighted the significant challenges involved in reaching these areas, citing difficult terrain, dense forests, and the presence of Naxals.
Previously, 540 families in these villages relied on solar energy and lanterns. Many solar installations were either stolen or non-functional, leaving the villagers in darkness. So far, 275 families have been provided with electricity connections, and work on connecting the remaining households is in progress. Villagers expressed joy when electric lights first illuminated their homes in villages.
Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) executive director Shirish Selat operationalised the 25 kVA transformer in Tatekasa village. The project involved laying a 45 km long 11 kV line, installing 87 low-tension poles, and setting up 17 transformers. Selat said that obtaining the NOC from the forest department and transporting equipment to these remote locations posed significant hurdles.
He credited the efforts of the technical team for the completion of the task.

"Our children had all just gone for lunch together when something this unimaginable happened," he said. Frustrated at many issues in her workplace, she planned to quit her job and start a new chapter of her life. She was looking at admissions for further education. "We insisted that she pushed and continued working at least till Diwali," Gupta recalled in regret. Aayushi's father, Sanjay Gupta, broke down and was inconsolable as he sat silently in a corner. His daughter had planned her birthday celebrations, including a visit to the Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan with her brother-in-law for her birthday on Sept 8 when tragedy struck. Present at the time of the incident was Surinder Gupta, 34, who runs a sweet and snack shop near the store. "I saw people gathering amid the chaos near the store and I also ran towards that spot," he said. I could have never imagined that I would have to see their bodies being taken away a day later. "

3 writers awarded for contribution to Urdu literature
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Urdu Academy on Tuesday presented awards to three writers for 2023 for their contributions to Urdu literature. Janab Sek Anwar Hussain from Bhadrak district received the 'Amjad Najmi Award 2023', along with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, a certificate and a trophy. Janab Abdul Haq Betab from Cuttack district was awarded the 'Dr Karamat Ali Karamat Award 2023', with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a certificate and a trophy. Janab Samiul Haq Shakir, also from Cuttack, received the 'Sriyukt Rashmikant Rahi Award 2023', along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a certificate and a trophy. Assembly speaker Surama Padhi gave away the awards at a function in Sanskruti Bhawan here. She said Urdu is a sweet language, enriched by numerous writers and poets through their literary creations.
