Dean Ebbe helps Dundalk snap winless run at Longford Town

RTÉ News26-04-2025
A brace from Dean Ebbe and one from substitute Andy Parashiv helped Dundalk get back to winning ways and extend their lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity Men's First Division to three points.
Bray Wanderers had capitalised on the Lilywhites drawing two games in a row to go level on points with them at the top after the previous night but Ciaran Kilduff's side responded by picking up their 10th win of the campaign at Bishopsgate.
The first chance of the game fell to the home side inside the eighth minute; Fran Campbell picked up a poor back pass but Dundalk keeper Peter Cherrie was quick off his line to save.
Dundalk had possession but couldn't muster up much. Eoin Kenny wasted a great chance to open the scoring in the 20th minute; Harry Groome found Leo Gaxha, he laid the ball off to Kenny who blasted the ball over the bar.
In the 21st minute the game was paused as players and officials joined supporters in a minute's applause for former Longford Town academy player Cian Neary. Town lent their support before the game to the charity Cian's Kennels in memory of Neary.
Dundalk had two chances as they tried to expose the home defence. In the 24th minute Gaxha brought a save out of Harry Halwax and two minutes later the Town netminder easily gathered Daryl Horgan's free. Halwax denied Gaxha again in the 34th minute.
The visitors started the second half brightly. Halwax was called into action to deny former Town player Ebbe in the 47th minute.
The deadlock was broken in the 54th minute; Horgan's corner was headed into the path of Ebbe and he flicked the ball to the net. Ebbe got his and his side's second goal in the 62nd minute when he got onto a pass from Parashiv and he made no mistake.
Darragh Murtagh headed over the bar for Town while Josh Giurgi's free was easily gathered by Cherrie in the 81st minute. A clearance from Luke Wade-Slater fell nicely to Parashiv in the 87th minute and he made it 3-0.
Longford Town: Harry Halwax; Osarze Irhue, Eric Yoro, Aaron Walsh, Dean O'Shea; Luke Wade-Slater, Aaron Doran (Pharrell Manuel 84), Emre Topcu, Mo Boudiaf (Josh Giurgi 63); Fran Campbell (Emmanuel Oluwafemi 63), Darragh Murtagh (Dean George 84).
Dundalk: Peter Cherrie; Conor O'Keeffe, Mayowa Animasahun, Vincent Leonard, Sean Keogh (Sean McHale 89); Harry Groome, Aodh Dervin (Andy Parashiv 46), Daryl Horgan (Shane Tracey 89); Eoin Kenny (Keith Ward 69), Leo Gaxha, Dean Ebbe (Gbemi Arubi 86).

Can Tolka Park cauldron help Shels to famous victory?

Shelbourne are potentially 90 minutes away from securing European league stage football. They welcome Croatian outfit Rijeka to Tolka Park tonight with a 2-1 lead to protect after they plundered a brilliant win on the road in last week's first leg. This is the third qualifying round of the Europa League, so victory will send Joey O'Brien's men into a two-legged play-off against either Greek side PAOK or Austrian outfit Wolfsberger while also guaranteeing them a place in the Conference League league stage at a minimum. It would be a remarkable achievement for the Reds, and a raucous home crowd will play their part, according to Richie Towell and David McMillan. "What an opportunity," said Towell, appearing on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast. Referencing his experience of playing for Dundalk against Hadjuk Split, Towell went on: "(In Dundalk's match) the atmosphere was like nothing I've ever seen. It was incredible. "For Shelbourne to go over there and get a victory, honestly, that's one of the best victories I think a League of Ireland team has got in the European competitions. What a result that was to go over there and it sets them up perfectly now for the home leg." St Pat's had to decamp to Tallaght Stadium for their Conference League clash against Beskitas but Shels are staying on their own patch for this one - a factor that could prove crucial. "(Rijeka) are most definitely not going to relish going to Tolka Park and trying to get a result off Shelbourne," Towell added. "I think the Qarabag game (in the Champions League qualifiers) for Joey O'Brien - not just Joey O'Brien but the players as well - they'll take great learning from that. "They had a little bit too much respect for (Qarabag) in the first half (of the first leg). Qarabag just ran all over them. I think they'll have a slightly different approach now. I don't think they'll be gung-ho by any means but I think they'll put a little bit more pressureon Rijeka and just make sure they're not sitting back too much and inviting them on. "Joey's done an incredible job, I'm not sitting here telling him what to do, but I think he'll have great learnings from the previous round to take into this one." McMillan famously scored two goals when Dundalk beat BATE Borisov 3-0 in Tallaght to progress to the Champions League play-off stage back in 2016. Legia Warsaw beat them, but the Lilywhites dropped into the Europa League group stages in what was a breakthrough achievement. "I think having the game at Tolka is also a huge help," he said. "If you look at that Pat's game (against Besiktas), moving it to Tallaght on a big open pitch against a team like Besiktas certainly didn't do them any favours. "You look at Shels, it's a big advantage to keep that game at Tolka Park. It means you can keep the game compact, it's a tighter pitch, it's not as good a surface even as Tallaght. All of that should help them out in terms of trying to keep Rijeka out and use your pace, the likes of Mipo (Odubeko), the likes of Dan Kelly if they're playing to try and break. "Having the away game first, Joey probably set the team up in a way that was to limit chances and hit them on the counter-attack. He can probably keep that approach this week.

Dundalk Thirds chalk up convincing win in Carlow with seven wickets to spare

Losing the toss and fielding first in St Patrick's College, Dundalk claimed an early wicket through youth seamer Siraj Sherzad. A 58-run partnership followed before Raheel Qamar and off-spinner Kapil Paija Pun combined for a flurry of middle order wickets to leave the hosts at 91-7 at drinks. Qamar recorded his best economy in an innings for Dundalk at just 2.5 runs an over. However, Ishaan Mohan helped Carlow to a late comeback from number nine, scoring 40 not out to deny Dundalk the three wickets they sought and setting the visitors a worryingly high target of 174. Pauric McCrum and Mohammed Bukhari partnered for 57 runs in the chase before Muhammad Umar hit an impressive 32 off 28 balls to bring the target within reach. Captain Sumit Kumar and Sourav Kunal saw the innings out, hitting a unbeaten 55 runs for the fourth wicket to clinch a third Division 20 win of the season with 31 balls to spare.
