Referring to the guiding principles of Falun Dafa—truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, or forbearance—Sgro said the whole word is in need of these tenets.
'Everywhere we look today, we've got conflicts,' she said. 'If we could just get everybody into believing in the basic words of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, I think the world … would be a much better place.'

Although the discipline is currently practised in more than 100 countries worldwide, it is banned in communist China, where practitioners have faced severe persecution for more than 25 years, with reports of torture, forced labour, killings, and even live forced organ
The persecution campaign was started in 1999 by then-CCP leader Jiang Zemin who saw the spiritual discipline's growing popularity and moral teachings as not being aligned with the CCP's atheistic doctrines.

'An Inspiration'
Conservative MP Scott Reid praised Falun Dafa practitioners, calling them 'such amazing people who do such amazing work.'
'You're an inspiration in ways that are profound,' he said in his speech. 'You're addressing universal values, but you're addressing them in a way that is key to bringing China and its amazing ancient culture, its values, into the world system for the benefit of China itself and its people, for the benefit of the rest of the world.'
He also noted that at the same time, he is sad that the persecution is continuing in China.
'The Communist Party continues a completely senseless campaign against a fundamentally non-political movement. It makes no sense to me,' Reid said.

But, he noted, through practitioners' 'extraordinary commitment to forbearance and compassion,' the persecution will end one day. He said the effort that the practitioners are displaying while incorporating their 'amazing set of values into the culture of the world' is the 'great work perhaps of our century.'
'Stand Together in Solidarity'
Conservative MP Garnett Genuis, also a co-chair of the Parliamentary Friends of Falun Gong, noted the peaceful nature of the practice, while adding that under the Communist Party in China, it has been subject to 'some of the worst persecution that we have seen.'
'We have to stand together in solidarity for truth and justice and stand against the threats to world peace and to universal human dignity that are presented by the CCP,' he said.
Genius said the work he did to pass legislation in the previous sessions of Parliament will make it harder for the CCP to continue its forced organ harvesting of Falun Dafa prisoners of conscience, as it enables Ottawa to

'But the work is not done on that. We can work with partners around the world to have similar legislation adopted in some other jurisdictions, and work with provincial and territorial leaders to ensure the full implementation of measures to prevent any kind of Canadian complicity in forced organ harvesting and trafficking,' he said.
Liberal MP Kevin Lamoureux noted how important Falun Dafa practitioners are not only to Ottawa and his constituency in Winnipeg, but 'around the world.'
He said the practitioners do important work to ensure 'the spiritual well-being' of the world, and to raise awareness about the persecution in China.

Mike Duggan, a city councillor in Gatineau, just across the river from Parliament Hill, said the scene created by the Falun Dafa practitioners on May 28 was 'the nicest I've seen in this place in quite a while.'
'Falun Dafa, a spiritual practice rooted in the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance, offers millions a path to personal growth, health, and inner peace through meditation and moral teachings,' Duggan said.

'I support Falun Dafa practitioners in their peaceful pursuit of faith, hoping that their example … inspires greater compassion and respect for diversity everywhere, among all humans around the world,' he said.
Conservative MP Michael Cooper said Falun Dafa's tenets are the 'antithesis of everything' that the CCP stands for.

China FM in Afghanistan, offers to deepen cooperation with Taliban rulers
China wants to explore mining in Afghanistan and have Kabul formally join its Belt and Road Initiative, a massive infrastructure plan, which is a central pillar of President Xi Jinping's bid to expand his country's global influence, the Afghan Taliban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Kabul and held talks with Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that both countries wanted to deepen ties in a number of areas. Beijing will continue to support the Afghan government to achieve long-term peace and stability, Wang told Muttaqi, according to a readout of the meeting released by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. China is willing to deepen political mutual trust with Afghanistan and step up cooperation in areas including trade and agriculture, Wang said. He called on Afghanistan to combat armed groups, adding that tighter security ties would provide a guarantee to bilateral economic cooperation. 'Mr Wang Yi also mentioned that China intends to initiate practical mining activities this year,' the Afghan statement said. Wang also met Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, according to Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson of the administration.'China has cooperated not only with Afghanistan but also with other countries around the world in their development, and it has played a constructive role,' Akhund told Wang, urging Beijing to continue its 'efforts and cooperation on the international stage in support of Afghanistan's legitimate position'. Wang told the prime minister that China was a 'sincere and steadfast' in its friendship with Afghanistan. 'We fully support the Afghan people in their progress,' he said, according to Fitrat. Wang is in Kabul for trilateral meetings between China, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Neither Beijing nor Islamabad formally recognise the interim administration, but both nations have posted their ambassadors in Kabul and have received Afghan envoys in their capitals. China was the first country to appoint an ambassador to Afghanistan under the Taliban and has sought to develop its ties with the hardline group that took control of the war-torn country in 2021. The impoverished country, rich in lithium, copper and iron deposits, could offer a wealth of mineral resources to boost Beijing's supply chain security, analysts the daily Crossword

Russia and China Give Iran Nuclear Deal Boost
Russia and China are siding with Iran against European threats to reinstate sanctions against Tehran under a United Nations Security Council resolution—a step the U.K., Germany and France have warned that they may take if nuclear talks fail before an upcoming deadline. Newsweek has reached out to the European Commission and the U.S. State Department for comment. The so-called "snapback" clause of U.N. Security Council resolution 2231 could once again place Iran under stringent sanctions for failing to comply with the nuclear enrichment levels dictated by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the 2015 nuclear deal President Donald Trump quit in 2018. If China and Russia refuse to recognize the mechanism, or move to block its enforcement, the West's ability to compel Iran via diplomacy would be greatly undermined. The resulting lack of sanctions could further weakening Europe's leverage and influence, increase Tehran's dependence on Moscow and Beijing, and raise the possibility that the United States reaches for a military solution to the long-running disagreement—Iran has already signaled to America that it would consider illegitimate any attempt to reinstate sanctions through the snapback mechanism. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's top envoy to the international organizations in Vienna, said the three European powers, sometimes known as the E3, were attempting to "blackmail" and "threaten" Iran into submission via their end of August deadline, according to a post on X. Moscow's opposition to the E3's sanctions option echoed that of China on Friday, when Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the snapback mechanism "does not help parties build trust and bridge differences and is not conducive to the diplomatic effort for the early resumption of talks." The backing has given Iran further momentum to publicly push back against Western pressure ahead of the JCPOA agreement's expiration in mid-October. This week, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said he had met with Chinese and Russian diplomats on Tuesday to discuss "joint measures to counter the destructive approach" of the E3. After no progress was made at an Iran-E3 meeting in Istanbul in July, the three powers told the U.N. this month: "We have made clear that if Iran is not willing to reach a diplomatic solution…or does not seize the opportunity of an extension, E3 are prepared to trigger the snapback mechanism." Iranian officials have said the country's economy could withstand further sanctions if talks fall through. Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said Wednesday on X: "In other words, an attempt by #E3 to trigger #SnapBack despite their own non-compliance would contradict the fundamental principles of international law." Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tuesday on X: "All three countries believe that Resolution 2231 should be terminated at its designated time, and these countries legally have no right to trigger the snapback mechanism and are opposed to reinstating Security Council resolutions." Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Friday at a regular press briefing: "Any moves taken by the Security Council now should help reach new agreements in talks, instead of the opposite." The E3 have set the end of August as the deadline to trigger the U.N.'s snapback mechanism if nuclear talks with Iran do not proceed positively. China reportedly discouraged purchase of NVIDIA AI chips due to 'insulting' Lutnick statements
Chinese regulators reportedly dissuaded local companies from purchasing NVIDIA's H20 chips, because they found certain statements by US commerce secretary Howard Lutnick "insulting." According to the Financial Times, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) teamed up to intensify their efforts to push the use of homegrown chips following Lutnick's remarks in an interview with CNBC. The US, if you'll recall, blocked NVIDIA from selling its H20 chips to China back in April out of concern that the Chinese military would use them to develop AI technology. When the US government reversed its decision in July and allowed the company to start shipping its chips to China, Lutnick told CNBC: "We don't sell them our best stuff, not our second best stuff, not even our third best. The fourth one down, we want to keep China using it... The idea is the Chinese are more than capable of building their own. You want to keep one step ahead of what they can build, so they keep buying our chips. You want to sell the Chinese enough that their developers get addicted to the American technology stack. That's the thinking." To note, a previous Times report stated that the government allowed NVIDIA to ship its products to China again after agreeing to hand over 15 percent of its profits. As a response to Lutnick's remarks, the Times says Chinese authorities sought ways to prevent local companies from buying H20 chips. CAC issued an informal notice instructing China's biggest tech firms, such as ByteDance and Alibaba, to stop new orders for H20 chips until the government is done conducting a national security review. The companies are compelled to comply, because they could face substantial fines from the CAC if they don't. Meanwhile, NDRC also issued an informal notice, asking local tech companies not to purchase any NVIDIA chip. Reuters recently reported that NVIDIA is developing a new chip for the Chinese market that's more powerful than the H20, perhaps driven in part by China's move to discourage its purchase. It will be based on the company's Blackwell architecture, but will only be capable of half the computing power of NVIDIA's Blackwell Ultra GPUs. Their regulatory and export approval aren't guaranteed, but the president previously implied that he was aware of the project and said he expects NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang to talk to him about it.
