Kuldeep IN, Debutant To Replace Bumrah? Ajinkya Rahane Answers India's Queries
Ajinkya Rahane urges Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion in India's XI for the third Test against England. He also suggests Arshdeep Singh for Jasprit Bumrah, if the latter is rested.
Ajinkya Rahane has batted for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion in India's 11 for the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. The Mumbai captain believes that on flat tracks, which have been the theme of the three Tests so far, Kuldeep's wicket-taking ability adds more value than an all-rounder's extra 25-30 runs, while also making the team less reliant on senior pacers.
Since his debut in 2017 under Rahane's captaincy, Kuldeep, once called India's best overseas spinner by Ravi Shastri, has played just 13 Tests. That's the same number as his current India bowling coach, the long-retired Morne Morkel, in that time. Unlike Rahane and Ravi Shastri, Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir have preferred batting depth over bowling might, choosing as many as three all-rounders in the Lord's Test.
'Depending on the condition of the wicket, I feel Kuldeep should play," Rahane said in a recent video on his YouTube channel, as quoted by Sportskeeda. 'If the wicket is similar to the last three Test matches, Kuldeep should play because you need guys who can get you those wickets. Our batting unit is doing really well. Even if you score 25-30 runs less, that's okay. But you need people who can get you those wickets. You don't want to depend on your leading fast bowlers every time," he added.
If India decide to bring in Kuldeep, it could be for either the big score-searching Karun Nair or Nitish Kumar Reddy, who did impress with the ball but failed with the bat at Lord's.
Rahane was also asked if Arshdeep Singh could be an able replacement for Jasprit Bumrah if India decide to rest the latter (which they haven't suggested they'll yet) at Old Trafford.
'I think so, yes," Rahane said. 'If Bumrah is not playing, Arshdeep is the guy. Because in England, you need a left-arm seamer who can swing the ball both ways, and also, with a different angle, he can create that rough for the spinners. So, if Bumrah doesn't play, Arshdeep should play the next one."
The Test begins at 3:30 pm IST on July 23.

Warner Lands Early Jab At Root Before Ashes: 'Take Surfboard Off His Front Leg'
Last Updated: David Warner believes Joe Root will be crucial for England in the Ashes series in Australia. Root has struggled there, averaging 35.86 without a century. Former Australian opener David Warner believes Joe Root will be crucial for England during their five-Test Ashes series in Australia later this year. Root has been dismissed 10 times in 18 Tests by Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood, just one less than the 11 times he has been dismissed by Australian captain Pat Cummins and Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The World No. 1-ranked Test batsman does not have the best of records in Australia. What Warner Said About Root? 'The big anchor there is Rooty (England batter Joe Root), who is yet to score a hundred in Australia. Josh Hazlewood tends to have his number quite a lot. He will have to take the surfboard off his front leg," Warner was quoted as saying to the BBC. England will be pleased with the return of Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson, both of whom could be significant players if they aim to win the Ashes urn for the first time in 10 years. 'It all comes down to the bowlers. If the English bowlers can put a dent in the Australia top order then they will come into the contest," Warner added. In 34 Tests against Australia, Root has amassed 2,428 runs at an average of 40.46, including four centuries and 18 fifties. However, in the 14 Tests he has played in Australia, his average drops to 35.68, with 890 runs across 27 innings. He has scored nine fifties but no centuries. Warner is currently in England preparing to represent the London Spirit in The Hundred, starting August 5. The veteran left-handed batsman aims to bring energy and intensity to the field and put on a show for the fans. 'I know Spirit haven't gone too well in the past few years. For myself to bring some energy and intensity to the group and project that on the field would be awesome. It is about the fans and the young kids that are coming out to see us, not about the player and whether there has been a bit of history or not," he said. Jasprit Bumrah To Miss Asia Cup: BCCI Sources Give Major Reason
Jasprit Bumrah, India's bowling spearhead, will miss the September 9-28 Asia Cup, BCCI sources told NDTV. Bumrah featured in only three of the five Tests in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as part of his workload management. Sources cited the same reason behind Bumrah missing the Asia Cup, where India is scheduled to play Pakistan on September 14 - the first clash between the archrivals after recent political and border tensions resulted in a diplomatic stand-off. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was on Friday released from the national squad after completing his quota of three Tests in the five-match series against England and stakeholders in Indian cricket have already started discussing his next international assignment. The 31-year-old Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs across three games and took 14 wickets. "Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England," BCCI announced in a release on Friday. Twice Bumrah returned five-wicket hauls -- at the Headingley in the first Test and at the Lord's in the third game. The Asia Cup will conclude on September 29 and the first Test against the West Indies will start in Ahmedabad on October 2 followed by the second match in New Delhi from October 10-14 . Then in November there are two Tests against South Africa. "It will be a tricky call but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup," a BCCI source abreast with Indian selection process told PTI on conditions of anonymity. "If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against West Indies at Ahmedabad. Obviously the question arises, do you need Bumrah against West Indies or he plays Asia Cup after a month's break and plays the two Tests against South Africa. That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take," the source added. Bumrah is not expected to play many ODIs till the T20 World Cup at home.

IND vs ENG : ‘I asked Jassi bhai, Why are you going..' : Mohammed Siraj on Jasprit Bumrah being released from Indian Test squad
With 18 wickets in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj is currently leading the wickets charts in the series. With fellow Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah not playing in the fifth test at The Oval and being released from the Indian team as confirmed by BCCI on Friday, Siraj has been leading the Indian pace attack at The Oval. Post the second day of the fifth Test, Siraj, who took four wickets in England's first innings, shared what conversation he had with Bumrah not playing the final Test and how Bumrah had assured him. 'I asked Jassi bhai, 'Why are you going? Who will I hug when I take five wickets?' He said, 'I'm here, you take your five wickets!,' Siraj told With his four-wicket haul on Friday, Siraj became only the first Asian pacer in 29 years to complete six four-wickets or more hauls in Tests in England. It also meant that Siraj broke Bunch's earlier record of five such hauls and became only the second Asian pacer after Pakistan's Waqar Younis with six such hauls in England. Siraj now has 41 wickets in 11 Test matches in England with an average of 34.73. He now has 118 wickets in xx Test matches with an average of 31.49 and Friday saw the Indian pacer taking his seventh four-wicket haul. The 31-year-old pacer also had taken 94 Test wickets in 26 away Tests in his career at an average of 30.05. 'Everybody likes to play in England because there is more swing and wickets are more helpful for fast bowlers. It feels good to be the highest wicket-taker in the series so far but then if we win the match, it will be then the highlight for me,' added Siraj. After Indian openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley put together a partnership of 92 runs, Indian bowlers led by Siraj and Prasidh Krishna restricted England to a first innings' total of 247 runs. While Siraj accounted for the wickets of Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell, Krishna would account for the fall of Zak Crawley. Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton and Gus Atkinson with Akash Deep too accounting for the fall of Ben Duckett. Siraj also talked about the comeback by the Indian bowling unit on the second day of The Oval Test. 'We made a comeback after such a bad session. As a fast bowler, it feels good to make such a comeback. When the responsibility is handed, then there is fun and I talk with my fellow bowlers and tell them what to do and what not to do. My only mindset since my childhood is that I should give my 100 percent, whatever the result is,' said Siraj. Praish Krishna too talked about his camaraderie with Bumrah and shared how each one of the bowling unit enjoy each other's success. 'Booms (Bumrah) has been a great part of this. I think it's really important for us to enjoy each other's success, to have that rapport off the field, so when you're on the field, speaking to each other, you have that trust. Only that is going to make the team better,' Krishna told
