Residents call for safety measures after several vehicle crashes into homes
AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Another crash where a vehicle slammed into a home — the fourth we've covered just in the last three weeks.
The latest crash happened Wednesday around 9:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Sable Boulevard. Horace Tolliver, the homeowner, says he, along with other neighbors, has complained to their city leaders because it's not the first time they've had trouble like this.
Several vehicles, a home vandalized in Denver Washington Park
Tolliver has lived in the neighborhood for 17 years. In that time, he says three of his cars have been totaled and four mailboxes have been replaced.
He says drivers often treat the area like a racetrack and something needs to be done to stop it. This is the sight that people living in the area saw.
'I hear this loud explosion,' said Tolliver. 'The first thing that came to mind is there was a call for rain, so at first I thought it was a giant thunderstorm,'
It wasn't. Instead, it was a truck slamming into his home.
'He had such an impact on it, he actually knocked my other vehicle into the garage, into my family room,' said Tolliver. 'So, there's a big gaping hole in there.'
When he went outside to find out what happened, he saw another truck sitting on top of his.
Police say the 23-year-old driver of the at-fault vehicle, which was a 2006 Dodge Ram, was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. They say alcohol is suspected in the crash.
That driver, Ever Alberto Vargas-Araujo was issued a summons for DUI, careless driving and failing to present evidence of insurance.

'I see the truck, so I run around to the driver's side, and I'm yelling. There's no movement in the vehicle. As I walk away, his door starts opening and he starts climbing out,' said Tolliver. 'I'm yelling at him and he starts to stumble out the vehicle.'
Tolliver says, unfortunately, it's not the first time he has encountered crashes on his property.
'I am shocked, but I'm not surprised because that's the third vehicle I lost here that was completely totaled,' he said.
He says he and other residents have reached out to city leaders multiple times over the last few years to increase safety measures in the area.
'Asking for roundabouts, speed bumps or stop signs and everything I get in return is we're conducting a study,' said Tolliver.
Police say that since 2002, there have been five crashes in the area.

The city of Aurora provided FOX31 with a statement reading in part:
'Our preliminary review indicates one other similar southbound run-off-road crash at this location, which was also related to impaired driving. In response to previous concerns, we have already installed flashing warning signage on both approaches to the curve, along with additional static signage, to alert drivers.'
City of Aurora
Residents like Tolliver want to see more action taken.
'This is the worst damage I ever sustained on this property,' he said. 'It's got to stop.'
A city spokesperson said they are committed to evaluating future improvements that could help prevent future incidents. They say they plan to work with the property owner to implement safety measures.

Boulder Jewish Festival draws statewide support after attack
BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Thousands gathered at Boulder's Pearl Street Mall for the first time since last Sunday's terror attack that injured 15 people, including a Holocaust survivor. Forty-five-year-old Egyptian national Mohamed Soliman faces federal hate crime charges in the attack. Naor Bitton intervened when the suspect was seen throwing firebombs into a crowd at the Walk For Their Lives rally to call for the return of hostages in Gaza. Family on Pearl Street during terror attack returns 1 week later for Boulder Jewish Festival 'I was lucky enough to be able to help, helped put the flames out, helped create distance between the people and the attacker,' Bitton told FOX31. On Sunday, a week later, he stood on the same block, this time joining a strong coalition. 'Our strength is in unity and we are always driving towards peace,' he said. Buses carrying supporters from metro Denver, Colorado Springs, Vail and other locations arrived at the festival over the weekend. 'Jewish people, non-Jewish people, we saw here Christians, we saw here Muslims; came from all around just to be with the Jewish people and to show us that we're not alone and terror has no place not in Boulder, not in Colorado hopefully not in the world; it was just beautiful,' Bitton said. Visitors saw a strong police presence during the festival. Security increased at Boulder Jewish Festival in light of attack 'I think we needed that today because it's so recent,' said one visitor, referring to the attack. Musician Jay Gindi tells FOX31 the high turnout of festival visitors sends the right message. 'The biggest thing is not letting the terror win,' he said. Others attending the event say that national and international attention now focused on Boulder provides an opportunity to bring people together. 'This should not be a political discussion; we have a community member that was burned by a terrorist. This is a terrible, terrible thing and as a whole, we should always get together, support, come together and show love,' said Jared Jacharowicz. Soliman appeared in federal court on Friday, his next court appearance is scheduled for June 18. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Mother of Denver hairstylist missing for months says she will always be proud of her daughter
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — After nearly two months of searching, the family of missing Denver hairstylist Jax Gratton says her body was recovered by police in Lakewood on Friday night. While they await the official autopsy results, Gratton's mother says she was always proud of her daughter. Police consider whether 'King of the Hill' actor's sexual orientation played a role in his killing Cherilynne Gratton-Camis says that she spoke with a Lakewood police detective and hopes to hear from them again on Monday with some information about the autopsy. She says the news of Jax's body being found brought her peace after weeks of speculation. 'I don't know the circumstances of her death, but I have pride. I'm not ashamed of my daughter,' said Gratton-Camis. While speaking with FOX31 over the phone, pride is the word Gratton-Camis used the most. Pride in both her daughter's ability to excel in her job as a hairdresser, as well as her outspoken nature. 'She educated not only in hair but she educated society,' said Gratton-Camis. Educating people about what Jax spent many years learning herself, according to her mother. 'Just that it's OK to live your own dream and be who you are,' said Gratton-Camis. She noted her pride in Jax's friendly spirit, saying that in her daughter's hairstyling client list were more than 900 people, most of whom were friends. 'To me, that was very impressive, that people had that loyalty for her,' said Gratton-Camis. Previous: Mother of Denver woman missing since April said she was found dead in Lakewood alley She says in the weeks after Jax's disappearance, many fake tips came in about her whereabouts, which caused her stress. After her recovery, Gratton-Camis says a detective told her that Jax was found in the clothes she was wearing the night she disappeared. 'People had planted horrible, terrible things in my mind,' said Gratton-Camis. 'And that brought me peace that she wasn't terrified, she wasn't being held hostage, she wasn't doing degrading or demeaning things. Whatever happened, happened that night.' She is thankful for the outpouring of community support over the last nearly two months— 'I could not believe that so many people turned out and from so many different communities,' she said. Gratton-Camis said that even though her daughter is gone, she hopes Jax knows how proud she always was of her. Free on Your TV • New FOX31+ App for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV 'I think if you can raise your children and just be proud of them, you're a success,' said Gratton-Camis. 'And so I feel like I'm a success.' On Monday, there will be two events in honor of Jax in Denver that Gratton-Camis encourages anyone in the public to attend. There will be a rally outside of the city county building at 11 a.m., as well as a rosary service at the Highlands United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. with eulogies, singers and drag performances, which Gratton-Camis said is exactly Jax's style. Three people killed in crash on interstate in South Carolina, cops say
Three people were killed early Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 85, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The three-vehicle collision happened at about 12:15 a.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper William Bennett. A 2015 Honda sedan was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-85, according to Bennett. At the 75 mile marker the Honda collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota sedan that was driving north on I-85, Bennett said. After that collision, the Honda then crashed into a 2024 Ford Expedition that was also heading north on the interstate, according to Bennett. The driver, who was the only person in the Honda, as well as both the driver and a passenger in the Toyota died at the scene, Bennett said. The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office has not publicly identified any of the victims. In addition to the Ford driver, there were five passengers in the SUV, but none of those occupants were hurt, according to Bennett. No other injuries were reported. There was no word if anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt. Information about how the Honda came to be driving toward oncoming traffic on I-85 was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol. Through June 1, at least 316 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported. At least 38 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported. That includes a fatal crash on Saturday afternoon. At about 1:50 p.m., both a 2007 Dodge Ram and a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle were driving north on S.C. 11, Bennett said. When the pickup truck turned left onto Cannon Ford Road it was hit on the driver's side by the motorcycle, according to Bennett. The motorcycle driver, who died at the scene, has not been publicly identified by the coroner's office. Bennett said the pickup driver, who was the only person in the truck, was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported. This crash also continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
