Teenager dies in motorcycle collision with lorry in Selangor
KUALA SELANGOR: A 17-year-old student has died after his motorcycle collided with a lorry in Jeram.
The incident occurred on Thursday around 2.15pm on Jalan Parit Mahang.
Police said the teenager was riding home from school when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into an oncoming lorry.
Kuala Selangor district police chief, Superintendent Azaharudin Tajudin said the lorry, which was not carrying any load, was being driven by a 26-year-old man.
"The motorcyclist was travelling in the opposite direction and is believed to have veered into the path of the lorry before hitting the front of the vehicle," he said.
The student was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries.
"He was pronounced dead at the scene," Azaharudin told Berita Harian.
Police said the teenager had earlier attended extra classes at school and was briefly returning home to leave his belongings before heading out again to drop a friend off at Kampung Parit Mahang.
The crash occurred shortly afterwards.
The lorry driver was not injured in the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
