Tamil Nadu CM Stalin flags off 214 new buses for State-run transport corporations
On the occasion of the DMK regime in Tamil Nadu entering its fifth year in office, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (May 7, 2025) flagged off 214 new buses for the State-run transport corporations at Island Grounds in Chennai.
According to an official release, the Tamil Nadu government has been providing transport services to the benefit of the public through eight State-run transport corporations at affordable fares.
In line with the needs of the public, the State government introduced new bus routes, launched new buses, refurbished old buses, improved bus depots, and implemented various schemes in a systematic manner. These include free travel facilities for women, students, persons with disabilities and their attendants, transpersons, Tamil scholars, and freedom fighters.
Through the 'Magalir Vidiyal Payanam' (free bus travel for women scheme), women have travelled 684 crore trips. In the last four years, a total of 3,727 new buses were introduced and 1,500 buses were refurbished. After launching the new buses, Mr. Stalin advised the drivers and conductors to stop the buses at the designated stops and ensure proper boarding of women beneficiaries under the 'Magalir Vidiyal Payanam' scheme.
Later in the day, Mr. Stalin travelled in a city bus plying between Vallalar Nagar and Vivekananda House from the Omandurar Government Estate bus stop. He interacted with passengers about the implementation of the 'Magalir Vidiyal Payanam' scheme.
Earlier, Mr. Stalin, along with some of his Cabinet colleagues and party functionaries, paid floral tributes at the memorial of former Chief Ministers C.N. Annadurai and M. Karunanidhi.

He added that the state government is funding over 50 percent of the cost for projects that are named after the Prime Minister. Quoting a line from the film Padayappa, Stalin remarked that just as the groom in the film wears a shirt that belongs to someone else, the state is also financing Union government projects. He further accused the Union government of trying to suppress and undermine Tamil Nadu's heritage. Stalin also criticised AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), stating that the Leader of the Opposition has aligned himself with Delhi and lacks the courage to question them. 'The public is rejecting their coalition because they are marginalising Tamil Nadu with anti-Tamil Nadu sentiments and ideologies,' Stalin asserted, adding that the AIADMK and its allies are forming alliances just to safeguard their positions. He went on to say that when the rights of Tamil Nadu were taken away, the AIADMK and its allies remained silent and did not object to what he termed as the BJP's indirect rule in the state. 'Even now, Amit Shah is openly declaring that the BJP will form a coalition, yet he (EPS) stays silent, putting his own selfish interests first,' Stalin claimed, adding that EPS has betrayed his own party. He concluded by saying the public is well aware and will not be misled into accepting EPS again.

Stalin hikes Paddy procurement price to Rs 2,500 per quintal
Chennai, Jun 12 (UNI) Soon after releasing waters from the Mettur dam on the scheduled date of June 12, Thursday, for irrigation and enable farmers in Cauvery delta region to take up Kuruvai crop cultivation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin brought more cheers to them by hiking the procurement price of paddy to Rs 2,500 per quintal. Speaking at an official function in Salem soon after opening the sluice gates of the Stanley Reservoir for irrigating more than 17.15 lakh acre of farm lands, began his address with an announcement that the farmers would henceforth get Rs 2,500 per quintal as procurement price for paddy. Mr Stalin said the procurement price for ordinary variety of paddy has been raised to Rs 131 and for fine variety to Rs 156. Thanks to this hike, the farmers would get procurement price of Rs 2,500 for ordinary variety and Rs 2,545 for fine variety. This will benefit more than 10 lakh farmers, he added. Stating that the Cauvery waters was the lifeline for delta districts to be known as the rice bowl of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister said, by storing the cauvery water to irrigate 16 districts, the Mettur dam was opened on the scheduled date for the last four years including today, much to the delight of farmers to enable them to take up Kuruvai crop cultivation. "With such immense happiness, I have come to Salem to attend this function after opening the dam for irrigation", he said, and announced that by adding more happiness to farmers, they would now get an enhanced procurement price of Rs 2,500 for paddy per quintal. During the function, Mr Stalin inaugurated 225 completed projects and laid foundation stone for 509 new ones at a total cost of Rs 1,649.18 crore, and distributed welfare schemes to 1,01,203 beneficiaries to the tune of Rs 204 crores. BJP MLA accuses DMK of erasing ‘Hindu' from caste certificates in Tamil Nadu
