Albanese: Gaza witnesses largest drop in life expectancy in modern history
Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories in Gaza, stated that 'Gaza has witnessed the largest drop in life expectancy compared to any other place on Earth in modern history.'
She clarified this in posts on the X platform today, Saturday, as reported by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), responding to those who say, 'It cannot be a genocide in Gaza because the Palestinian population is increasing.'
Albanese confirmed that the United Nations' role in the Gaza Strip has been marginalized and weakened.
She said, 'Despite the efforts of many, the UN has been marginalized, weakened, and paralyzed by politics,' adding: 'International law has been flagrantly violated. This can — and must — change.'
She emphasized that 'people have power, no matter who they are or where they are. United, people are stronger. Nations are stronger.'
Addressing Israeli soldiers, Albanese said: 'When you take off your military uniform, think about this: many of you are mere snipers shooting at civilians, often children, fleeing to save their lives, after your army has left them homeless, hungry, and orphaned.'
She added: 'You are heading towards an abyss. It is never too late to stop this.'
With U.S. and European support, the Israeli occupation army has continued since October 7, 2023, committing crimes of genocide in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 61,897 Palestinian civilians, the majority children and women, and injuring 155,660 others to date, in a preliminary tally, with thousands of victims still trapped under rubble or in the streets, inaccessible to rescue and medical teams.

Sana'a - Saba: The General People's Congress strongly condemned what it described as a cowardly Israeli attack on the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the party denounced the targeting of the Hazeez Power Station, which resulted in the facility going out of service and deprived residents of the capital and nearby areas of essential electricity needed for hospitals, water pumps, and other vital public services.
