India stands secure and self-reliant than ever before

India Gazette9 hours ago

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): India's firm and clear-eyed approach to internal security and counter-terrorism over the last eleven years reflects the government's unwavering resolve to prioritise national interest above all. From precision military strikes across borders to strategic dismantling of insurgent networks within, India has shed the hesitations of the past.
As per an official statement from the government of India, a clear doctrine now guides action, swift, decisive and backed by intelligence. With the abrogation of Article 370, the campaign against Naxalism, and new capabilities in high-tech defence, India today stands more secure and self-reliant than ever before. Operation SINDOOR, India's swift and precise military response to a terror attack in April 2025, further demonstrated this resolve. These successes are a result of political will, military strength and a deeply rooted belief in putting the country first.
India responded to the terrorist attack in Uri on 18 soldiers by conducting Surgical Strikes on 28-29 September 2016. These strikes inflicted heavy losses on terrorists and their protectors across the Line of Control. A few years later, on 14 February 2019, the Pulwama terror attack claimed 40 CRPF jawans. India's response came swiftly. On 26 February 2019, in an intelligence-led operation, the Balakot airstrikes eliminated a large number of Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists, including senior commanders. The facility targeted was located far from civilian areas and headed by Maulana Yousuf Azhar, brother-in-law of JeM chief Masood Azhar. These pre-emptive actions showed the world that India would no longer tolerate proxy wars through terrorism.
In April 2025, following a brutal terror attack on civilians in Pahalgam, India launched Operation SINDOOR, executing precise retaliatory strikes against nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian military, acting on accurate intelligence, relied on drone strikes, loitering munitions, and layered air defence to neutralise key threats without crossing international boundaries. When Pakistan launched drone and missile attacks on 7-8 May against multiple Indian cities and bases, these were swiftly intercepted, showcasing the effectiveness of India's net-centric warfare systems and integrated counter-UAS (unmanned aerial systems) grid.
In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India's firm policy on cross-border terrorism and its approach towards Pakistan. He underlined that national security is non-negotiable and outlined clear red lines regarding dialogue, deterrence, and defence.
He said that any terrorist attack on India will be met with a fitting and decisive response, regardless of where the perpetrators operate from and India will not be deterred by nuclear threats and will continue to carry out precise strikes against terrorist hideouts.
He further made it clear that there will be no difference between the masterminds and the sponsors of terror; both will be held accountable, adding that any engagement with Pakistan, if at all, will be focused only on terrorism or the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Prime Minister declared, 'Terror and talks cannot go together, terror and trade cannot go together, and water and blood cannot flow together,' firmly closing the door to normal relations amid terror threats.
On 5 August 2019, Parliament approved the removal of Articles 370 and 35-A, marking a historic correction of a decades-old imbalance. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were brought at par with other regions, and over 890 Central laws were applied. As many as 205 state laws were repealed, and 130 were modified to align with the Constitution of India.
Since then, development in the region has accelerated. Marginalised groups like Valmikis, Dalits, and Gorkhas now enjoy full rights. Laws such as the Right to Education and Child Marriage Act now protect all citizens in the region. The impact is clear: terrorist-initiated incidents have dropped from 228 in 2018 to just 28 in 2024, demonstrating a strong correlation between integration and peace.
The multi-pronged approach to Left Wing Extremism has delivered historic gains. From 126 affected districts in 2010, the number has come down to just 38 by April 2024. Most affected districts were reduced from 12 to 6, and the number of casualties is at a 30-year low. Violence has declined sharply from 1,936 incidents in 2010 to 374 in 2024, a drop of 81 cent. Deaths have reduced by 85 cent over the same period.
In 2024 alone, 290 Naxals were neutralised, 1,090 arrested, and 881 surrendered. Major recent operations in March 2025 saw 50 Naxals surrender in Bijapur, 16 neutralised in Sukma, and 22 killed in Kanker and Bijapur. With continued support through Special Central Assistance and targeted development, the government is on track to eliminate Naxalism by 31 March 2026.
India's journey over the past 11 years showcases its transformation into a confident global power. Through strategic initiatives, from the G20 presidency to the International Solar Alliance, India has led with purpose and pragmatism. Its commitment to humanitarian aid, regional partnerships, and counter-terrorism reflects a nation that places its people first while contributing to global stability. With a focus on self-reliance, from defence production to technological innovation, India has strengthened its sovereignty and global standing. This era of bold leadership and inclusive diplomacy positions India as a pivotal force in shaping a balanced, prosperous world order. (ANI)

"Criminals fearless in Bihar": Tejashwi Yadav lambasts Nitish Kumar govt on firing incident outside his residence

Patna (Bihar) [India], June 19 (ANI): RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday lashed out at the Nitish Kumar-led state government over the law and order situation in the state after an incident of firing was reported near his residence in Patna. Hitting out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the people of the state were not safe alleging a 'crimnal disorder' of the law and order situation and 'anarchy' in Bihar. Yadav said that the criminals in Bihar have become 'fearless' and demanded CM Nitish Kumar's resignation. Speaking to mediapersons here, the RJD leader said, 'There is a complete rule of criminals in place now. There is no government. Anarchy has set in in the administration and government. Shooting is taking place outside my residence in a VVIP area, it had never happened before.' Taking a jab at the Nitish Kumar government, Yadav said, 'Nobody is safe in Bihar. There is a criminal disorder of the law and order in Bihar. Nitish ji forms laws and sets free those with AK-47. He supports criminals.' 'Criminals have become fearless in Bihar, and I am a former Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, there are residences of the Development Commissioner, many ministers near my residence. Still, such incidents are happening. This is very serious... If the most secure area of the state is not safe and they cannot catch the criminals then Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should resign,' said Yadav. Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bihar tomorrow on June 20, Tejashwi Yadav hit out at the centre and claimed that the morale of the criminals was high in the 'demonic rule' of the NDA. 'In the demonic rule of NDA, the morale of the criminals protected by the government is so high that in the high security zone, at a short distance from the Governor's residence Raj Bhawan, Chief Minister's residence, Leader of the Opposition's residence, Judge's residence and the airport, the dreaded criminals are roaming around openly firing. Beware! What if someone calls it Jungle Raj? Anyway, the Prime Minister is coming to Bihar tomorrow, so the Godi media has to maintain a positive image,' posted Yadav on X. Earlier in the day, Tejashwi Yadav claimed that the Prime Minister is coming to Bihar to do 'politics of hatred' and should be ashamed to come to the state due to unfulfilled promises. 'If PM Modi listens to his 200 speeches that he has given so far in Bihar, he will be ashamed to come to Bihar. He made hundreds of promises, he will be ashamed of what to say to the people of Bihar... He is not coming to Bihar to provide employment, reduce inflation, eliminate poverty, but just to do the politics of Hindu-Muslim, the politics of hatred,' Yadav told ANI earlier today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar tomorrow (June 20), where he is scheduled to address a public gathering in the Siwan district of the state. Earlier, as Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha urged people to attend the event in large numbers, he said that PM Modi will highlight the resolution for 'Viksit Bihar' and give a message for 'freedom from nepotism.' Regarding nepotism, the RJD leader claimed that while the BJP criticises others of family-politics, half of the ministers in the state cabinet are dynasts, while also repeating his claim of NDA being a 'National Daamaad Aayog. ''They keep abusing us about family politics, but their alliance is filled with dynastic politicians, and the same thing is true even in their party (BJP). In Bihar, over 50 per cent of the ministers are dynasts... NDA in Bihar means 'National Daamaad Aayog'. PM Modi has fitted everyone's son-in-law in the 'Aayog',' the RJD leader said. (ANI)

SC panel flags 'unnatural conduct' in Justice Varma inquiry; report sparks demand for judicial accountability

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): A 64-page report submitted by a high-powered Judicial Inquiry Committee has cast a spotlight on Justice Yashwant Varma, formerly of the Delhi High Court and now transferred to the Allahabad High Court. The committee, constituted by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna on March 22, concluded that there is credible and serious evidence of misconduct following the discovery of burnt currency at Varma's official residence. The report prepared by a panel comprising Chief Justices Sheel Nagu, GS Sandhawalia, and Justice Anu Sivaraman delivered searing observations about Justice Varma's conduct, suggesting he failed to uphold 'Universally Accepted Values of Judicial Life.' At the heart of the controversy lies the recovery of partially incinerated cash in the early hours of March 15 from a store room in 30 Tughlak Crescent, an official residence under Varma's control. The panel, citing witness statements and electronic surveillance, concluded that 'the burnt currency was removed covertly with active awareness or complicity,' prompting questions about why no formal complaint or disclosure was made by the judge. Further fanning suspicions was the manner of Justice Varma's transfer. Despite having time to seek clarification or raise objections, he promptly accepted the March 20 repatriation order to Allahabad High Court 'without demur,' raising eyebrows within the judicial fraternity. The report remarks that such readiness, absent consultations or queries, is 'uncharacteristic of a judge with a clean record.' The inquiry, supported by testimonies from 55 witnesses, including Justice Varma himself, points to a troubling pattern of omissions and questionable choices. While not declaring outright guilt, the committee recommends initiation of proceedings for Varma's removal, marking a rare and serious development in India's judicial history. (ANI)
