Bishnoi gang claims responsibility for 2nd killing in a month in Canada

Time of India5 hours ago

New Delhi: The
Lawrence Bishnoi
gang has claimed responsibility for the killing of a businessman reported from Canada's Brampton last week. Sources said Goldy Brar supervised the killing of the gang's rival, who apparently refused to pay protection money.
This would be the second killing carried out by the gang in Canada over a month's time, the previous one being of Harjeet Dhadda, who the Bishnoi group claimed was financing the Arsh Dala syndicate. Investigators said Bishnoi and Brar accused Dhadda of sheltering the killers of their associate Mahal Singh at his farmhouse in Uttarakhand.
The latest victim who was shot on Friday has been identified as MP Dhanoa, who was in his thirties.
He was gunned down in a drive-by shooting at an automotive complex shop located on Rutherford Road South and Selby Road in Brampton. Peel Regional Police told the local media that its officers responded to the shooting around 5.45pm. Upon arrival at the complex, police discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed him to a trauma centre in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The local administration blamed an "India-based crime network" for the "targeted killing".
A Facebook post by Bishnoi's man Friday Rohit Godara read, "We are responsible for the killing. I called him a week ago for protection money because he made money through a lot of wrong things and he came out on bail from jail some time ago. When I called him, he misbehaved with me. We told him that we will definitely take him out..
. lightly. This is a warning for those whose name is included in our hit list, we will definitely kill them."
The group has of late stopped tagging their kingpin Bishnoi in their posts to shield him and give the impression that they are operating separately. However, investigators dismissed these claims as frivolous attempts to mislead the law enforcement agencies.
In May, 51-year-old Dhadda of Brampton was shot multiple times after being approached by unknown suspects in a parking lot near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way in Mississauga.
Investigators said they found common patterns in the killings of Dhanoa and Dhadda—Brar being a key link and conspirator.
Two of Brar's henchmen, Aman and Digvijay, were held in June for Dhadda's murder. According to social media posts from his children, Dhadda, a Canadian resident since 1997, received threats in recent years, which were reported to police, but no action was taken.

Another held at Gwalior in Raghuvanshi murder case

Indore: Madhya Pradesh police on Monday detained another accused in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in Gwalior, on the request of a Shillong police SIT that was camping in Indore investigating the murder that rocked the nation. Lokendra Tomar, owner of the apartment in Indore, where Raja's wife and main accused Sonam stayed in hiding, was detained from Gwalior's Gandhinagar area. Tomar reportedly rented the building to Shilom James, a contractor who was also arrested in connection with the destruction of crucial evidence. A team from Gwalior crime branch arrived at MK Plaza, Gandhinagar, caught Lokendra Tomar, and took him with them. Vivek Siyem, East Khasi Hills SP (Meghalaya), said, "A splinter team of Shillong police on Monday left from Indore to Gwalior to formally arrest the accused person, who will then be produced before a court in Gwalior for transit remand." He is the landlord of the flat at Dewas Naka, where Sonam had taken shelter while hiding in Indore, the SP said adding he had left Madhya Pradesh on June 16 for Uttarakhand. From Uttarakhand, Tomar had proceeded to Gwalior on June 22. "The accused is wanted in connection with the destruction and concealment of material/ evidence which are vital to the case," he said. Shillong SIT had arrested three accused in connection to tampering with evidence and other charges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "All the three will most likely be brought on Wednesday to Shillong," Siyem said. Shillong police, which already arrested James and the building guard Balveer Ahirwar, produced them before a court on Sunday, which sent them on a 7-day transit remand. During interrogation, James reportedly revealed that he leased the building from Tomar for Rs 3 lakh per month and housed various tenants there, including Sonam. After Sonam's arrest, Tomar allegedly pressured James to immediately remove and burn the bag from the flat. This bag is believed to have contained crucial evidence, including Raja and Sonam's mobile phones. On Sunday, a special investigation team (SIT) from Shillong police, accompanied by officials from Indore crime branch and an FSL team, took James to Hare Krishna Vihar Colony, where he reportedly burned the bag in a vacant plot. Police intend to send the seized charred remains of the bag for forensic analysis. This examination aims to identify what else was burned along with the bag and determine how long ago the destruction occurred. There is suspicion that SIM cards, electronic devices, and other items were also incinerated.

259 victims identified, remains of 3 UK nationals yet to be repatriated

Ahmedabad: The number of identified victims of the AI 171 crash on June 12 reached 259 on Monday, with two new identifications in the 24 hours ending 6pm. According to officials, the number includes 253 individuals — 240 persons aboard along with 13 non-passengers — who were identified from DNA matches. The remaining six were identified from their facial features, they added. Dr Rakesh Joshi, medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, said that out of 259, the mortal remains of 256 have been handed over to family members. "The only three bodies remaining are of the UK nationals. While the mortal remains of two will be taken any time to the UK for the last rites, one family has informed us that they will take possession of the mortal remains on Wednesday," he said. According to govt figures, out of 241 passengers who died in the crash and subsequent inferno at the medical hostel in the Meghaninagar area, 240 have been identified. The majority of those who lost their lives on the ground have also been identified. Sources said that "only a few" samples remain to be processed for DNA identification in labs in Gandhinagar. Dr Joshi told the media that it is natural for the number of samples handed over to forensic experts to be higher than the deceased. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ductless Air Conditioners Are Selling Like Crazy [See Why] Keep Cool Click Here Undo "Due to the condition of the bodies, it is likely that more than one sample of the same person may have been sent for analysis," he said. The mortal remains handed over to the relatives include 73 from Ahmedabad, 29 from Anand, 24 from Vadodara, 12 from Surat, 11 from Kheda, 10 from London, and seven from Gandhinagar, among others. Among the passengers with domicile of a foreign nation, bodies of 49 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian national had been handed over as of Monday evening. About 28 of the total mortal remains have been sent by air within India and outside, added Civil Hospital officials.

Pre-arrest bail denied to man booked for ‘sharing objectionable post' against Maharashtra CM

The sessions court in Mumbai rejected anticipatory bail application of a Pune resident booked for allegedly sharing an objectionable post against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, noting that no case was made out for pre-arrest bail considering the nature of offence against him. Additional sessions judge Prashant C Kale on June 21 passed an order on an application by city resident Santosh Ramchandra Darekar, apprehending arrest in connection with the FIR registered by Cyber Cell, nodal office. The FIR was registered for offences punishable under sections 197(1)(c) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 353(2) (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (BNS) along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. As per the prosecution, the complaint was registered by BJP leader Yojna Virendra Thokle alleging that Darekar shared an objectionable post on Facebook against Fadnavis on May 23. However, the applicant argued that he was falsely implicated in the case. He added that while the notice under section 35(3) of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was sent to the applicant, he could not remain present before the investigating officer due to the illness of his mother. The applicant argued that he was not having any criminal antecedents and was ready to cooperate with the investigating agency and would abide by all the conditions if he was granted anticipatory bail. The prosecution opposed the plea stating that Darekar had prima facie committed the offence and his mobile was required to be seized to conduct its technical analysis, and therefore he should not be granted pre-arrest bail. The court noted that the probe was in progress and there was a 'prima facie case against the accused and that can not be ignored or overlooked'. Rejecting his plea, the court added that Darekar has not complied with notice issued to him and 'the grounds for refusal of anticipatory bail put forth by the investigating agency are apparently genuine'.
