Queen Camilla shares photo to mark her 78th birthday

ITV News16-07-2025
A new photograph of the Queen has been released to celebrate her 78th birthday on Thursday.
Camilla was pictured smiling in the sunshine and leaning on a metal gate in front of a meadow at her Wiltshire home Raymill.
The image taken by photographer Chris Jackson shows the Queen looking relaxed and wearing a turquoise dress in a Liberty fabric printed with a rainforest of toucans, lemurs and monkeys.
Last year, Camilla was on duty on her birthday attending the State Opening of Parliament at the King's side.
This year, she is said to be spending the day privately.
The King, who is still being treated for cancer, is known to have been buoyed by his wife's support since his diagnosis last year.
The pair celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary at the start of April and have had a busy run of engagements, including hosting a state visit by the French president last week and a high-profile trip to Italy earlier this year.
They are coming up to their summer break in Scotland, but once that is over, the mammoth preparations for Donald Trump's state visit will be well underway.
On Wednesday, the Queen was gifted a roll of clingfilm for her birthday in a special holder when she visited a nuclear-powered submarine in Plymouth.
The wrapping was used in an emergency to fix a defect in the main engines of HMS Astute.
'There's nothing more useful, brilliant, how wonderful,' the Queen remarked about the present which had a small plaque with the words 'Clingflim keeping nuclear submarines at sea'.
Camilla is also to be made a Vice Admiral – an honorary role – in recognition of her support of the Royal Navy, it was announced the same day.

'I'm a French expat in Britain and I was left amazed by one element of UK culture'

Stéphane Jouin, who moved to the UK nine years ago, shared the revelation in a video for his YouTube channel, 'A French guy in England', which showcases the two nations' "cultural quirks" A French expat living in the UK has named a particular aspect of British culture that's left him "amazed". Stéphane Jouin, who swapped France for the UK nine years ago, divulged his findings on his YouTube channel ' A French guy in England ', which delves into the "cultural quirks" of both countries. ‌ In his video, '6 Things I Really Appreciate as a French Guy in England', Stéphane shared his observations from nearly a decade in Britain, touching on aspects such as our politeness and tendency to be "merciful". ‌ Among these UK insights, he highlighted his admiration for the British propensity for kindness, a trait he finds "amazing" and notes is even promoted by companies and organisations here. Stéphane expressed: "Number two is that people tend to be kind." ‌ He elaborated: "I'm actually amazed that people are generally ready to help. For example, if you're stranded with your car on the road, and your bonnet is open - they call it 'hood' in the USA - they will come to ask you if you are okay, if you need any help. I find this amazing." Stéphane added that acts of kindness are "part of everyday life here." He also pointed out that the UK is home to many charities that support people suffering from health issues. ‌ He pointed out that British firms and groups are known for rallying people to join events they organise to raise money for charitable causes. On the flip side, in May, a Brit living in France took to TikTok to share five reasons why life across the Channel is "better." The expat, known as Alex or "It's moi" on the platform, presented her "household edition" of insights. First up was the revelation that people in France tend not to have their washing machines in the kitchen, instead opting for the bathroom or elsewhere, meaning you "don't have the eyesore or the noise" in the kitchen. ‌ But there's more; Alex also highlighted the convenience of having plug sockets in the bathroom, "square-shaped" pillows for extra headroom, and shutters on every window. Alex said: "You don't have to worry about blackout blinds or blackout curtains if you want to make the room dark. You just close the shutters, which is absolutely fantastic when you have children." ‌ Finally, Alex claimed that a "lot of the houses around here" tended to be detached rather than semi-detached. She said they didn't have to worry about any "potential noise problems" from neighbours. However, not everyone saw things the same way, with one commenting: "I'd hate to have a washing machine in my bathroom." Some did agree with the TikToker, with one claiming that once you try using a square pillow, there's "no going back".

She first graced the show in 2015 and exited in 2019, only to reappear in seasons 10 and 11, and then surprisingly in 2024 when her character stepped out of witness protection. ‌ In an intimate video message to her followers, Josephine shared the reasons behind her initial exit, citing personal and professional grounds while reassuring fans that there was "nothing dramatic" about her decision. I loved every minute of it." ‌ She continued: "I'm going to miss the show, I'm going to miss Toby and Ardal and Shyko and everyone so it's been a tough decision, but that's life." ‌ Josephine, who thought she had left the sandy shores of Saint Marie for good, found herself irresistibly pulled back into the fold, as she confessed to Hello! regarding her season 10 comeback, reports Wales Online. "I already left in series eight, I thought it would be for good, honestly, I thought, 'I'm done,'" she disclosed. "Then they asked me back for series ten as I was like, 'Hmmm I don't know, okay I'm going to do it.' But I knew it wouldn't be forever, I knew it. How long, I didn't know. I had an idea, but I wasn't sure." ‌ However, the third episode of the tenth series, titled Lucky in Love, originally aired in 2021 and will be rebroadcast at 9pm tonight on BBC One. The synopsis of the episode reads: "It seems money doesn't buy happiness when lottery winner Cherry is found dead at her luxurious villa, much to the horror of her husband and their visiting friends." The plot thickens as Neville and his team are faced with a puzzling case: no one was present in the house at the time of the murder, and the victim's body mysteriously disappears. ‌ It continues: "Meanwhile, JP is training unruly new officer Marlon, aware that his wife Rosey is due to give birth at any time." Furthermore, she teased the prospect of joining the spin-off series, Beyond Paradise, revealing that it was a topic she had broached with the producer. "We'll see if that will happen. But I would love to anyway. It would be a very nice wink," she hinted. ‌ Fans have been flocking to social media to praise the French actress's performance in Death in Paradise. A Reddit user said, "She's the heart and soul of the show; it's never quite the same without her." Another penned: "I always Hoped she would have a turn being detective after being promoted." While a third weighed in with their thoughts: "I really miss her, honestly. While I do like Naomi, I really would have loved if Florence had become the first non-English DI in the show; especially with her experience and smarts." Death in Paradise airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One.

Suranne Jones set to thrill in gripping Netflix political drama Hostage

Much loved actor Suranne Jone swill be on Netflix next month in Hostage Netflix have released a new trailer and photos for new Susanne Jones drama Hostage. ‌ The five part series is described as a gripping political thriller, anchored by 'a powerhouse performance' from Suranne and it will launch globally on August 21. ‌ Susanne said: 'I'm thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I'm really proud of. It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time. We'd talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect — me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.' ‌ The plot sees the British Prime Minister's husband get kidnapped and the visiting French President being blackmailed, as the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both? ‌ Writer Matt Charman: 'Suranne's intensity in Hostage is off the charts. Watching her embody a Prime Minister pushed to the edge — politically, personally, emotionally — is utterly gripping. She's commanding, raw, and completely unforgettable.' Other cast members include Julie Delpy, Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo, Martin McCann and Jehnny Beth. Suranne is one of Britain's best loved actors. She gained prominence for her role as Karen McDonald in Coronation Street between 2000-2004, and has since garnered critical acclaim for performances in shows like Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack, and Vigil. ‌ Suranne is celebrated for her ability to portray diverse characters with depth and emotion. In Hostage she will be playing the Prime Minister. On speaking to politicians to prepare for her upcoming role in Netflix's Hostage, she told the Table Manners podcast: 'I don't think I'm allowed to say (who), but I did speak to three really high-up women from different parties, and I read their books and I interviewed them, and that was very exciting.' On her love of research when preparing for a role, she added: 'I love research! I wasn't very good at school, but I guess that's my callback to something that you're interested in. So I do a lot of reading. I like to meet a lot of people and chat about the roles. For Anne Lister (Gentleman Jack), there was a lot of research I could do. Obviously, there were the diaries, and there were a lot of historians that I could talk to, pictures that I could see. So I get quite geeky about that. For Vigil, I did meet a detective.'
