His inclusion offsets a number of huge outs from both teams, with the likes of Nicho Hynes, Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr missing for the Indigenous side, while Jahrome Hughes and Joseph Tapine won't be there for the Maori team.
Ponga kicked four goals in a 30-16 win back in 2020, with the former Dally M Medal winner returning to the rep scene after he backflipped on his controversial call to make himself unavailable for the Pacific Championships, only to be overlooked by Mal Meninga anyway.

He's part of a strong side that includes former Golden Boot winner James Fisher-Harris, while the Indigenous side boasts plenty of speed in the backline which features Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Tyrone Munro.
Next weekend's game at CommBank Stadium will also see Olivia Kernick run out for the Indigenous women's side, with the Dally M winner selected in the Jillaroos squad for next month's Test against England having been sensationally snubbed for the Pacific Championships.

'Grave doubt': Payne Haas cops fresh setback as Broncos face brutal double blow
The Brisbane Broncos have suffered a double setback ahead of Friday night's must-win clash against South Sydney, with Payne Haas battling illness and Brendan Piakura ruled out of the game. s Peter Badel reports that Haas has been struck down with an infection and is in 'grave doubt' for the round 22 clash against the Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium. The NSW prop has been dealing with an ongoing lower back issue that troubled him during the Blues' Origin series defeat. And he was also seen limping at the end of Brisbane's shock loss to Parramatta last week after a knock to the ankle, which fortunately wasn't serious enough to require scans. But the Broncos' head of football Troy Thomson - who was also the high performance manager for the Kangaroos and the premiership-winning Rabbitohs side in 2014 - explained that it is more beneficial for Haas to continue training and playing with Brisbane. And the club rejected suggestions that it would be more beneficial to rest him. "If Payne can't play a game of footy of course we are going to give him a rest, but this whole notion that giving him a rest is going to fix him is not how the human body works," Thomson told AAP. "Movement helps recovery. If you don't move, you get sorer. "We are managing Payne's loads, like we do all of the players on an individual basis to ensure they are fresh enough but also have sufficient fitness, strength, flexibility and range of motion to play week-in and week-out NRL. It is about ensuring they have the right stimulus ... and volume and intensity of load as well." Brendan Piakura ruled out for Broncos after head knock The Broncos can ill afford to lose another player from their forward pack - particularly one as influential as Haas - after Piakura was a late scratching for the Rabbitohs game. It's understood the Brisbane edge forward suffered a head knock at training, meaning he will undergo a mandatory 11-day stand down which is also set to rule Piakura out of next Thursday night's blockbuster against premiership favourites, Melbourne. Veteran back-rower Jack Gosiewski has come into Brisbane's starting side to replace Piakura for the Souths game, with front-row recruit Ben Talty added to the bench. If Haas is ruled out, then either Kobe Hetherington or fellow interchange forward Xavier Willison could be promoted to a starting prop role, with utility forward Tyson Smoothy likely to come into the 17 after being named in Brisbane's extended squad. Storm player's role under threat as Bellamy drops truth bomb after epic blow-up
Craig Bellamy says his Storm side will have to improve if they hope to be in NRL premiership contention after surviving a huge scare against Parramatta on Thursday night. And he dropped a huge hint that Ryan Papenhuyzen will be stripped of the goal-kicking duties after the fullback endured what former premiership winner Matty Johns described as a 'bludger' of a night with the boot. Bellamy was spotted giving some of his customary blow-ups in the coach's box after a series of errors for the Storm that could have proven costly against Jason Ryles' gutsy Parramatta side. Melbourne's class ultimately prevailed though, with Maroons captain Cameron Munster having a hand in all three of the Storm's tries as they snatched a 16-10 win at CommBank Stadium to leapfrog Canterbury into second spot on the ladder. Munster's perfectly placed kick set up gun second-rower Eli Katoa for the first try of the night. And his scheming run near Parramatta's tryline lay the platform for Harry Grant to exploit a gaping hole in the opposition's defence from the play-the-ball, as he put Tui Kamikamica over untouched for the second try. But the Eels defied their lowly position on the NRL ladder and took the game to the premiership favourites, with tries to Josh Addo-Carr and a fortuitous second half effort from Charlie Guymer locking the game up at 10-10. Guymer's try came in controversial circumstances, with the Bunker signing off on it, despite suggestions he knocked on in the build-up and failed to ground the ball over the line. With the scores level approaching the final 10 minutes though, Munster found towering winger Xavier Coates with another pinpoint high kick to set up the match-winning try. It could have been far more comfortable for Melbourne if Papenhuyzen hadn't missed three of his four kicks at goal, including one from almost next to the posts that hit both uprights. Bellamy had cooled down by the time the post-match press conference rolled around but admitted the victory was 'a bit too close for comfort'. And the veteran coach warned that his side will need to lift their standards across the final six rounds of the season, with big games against the Broncos (twice), Panthers, Bulldogs and Roosters still to come. 'We weren't really playing that well or sticking what we'd be doing in that situation," Bellamy said post-game "A couple of times we went away from that so we just need to have a look at that. 'We were fortunate enough to get out of it tonight but if you keep doing that it's not going to help you. We know there's some things we'll need to do differently or it's not going to work in six weeks time.' Ryan Papenhuyzen facing the axe from kicking duties Bellamy also dropped a huge hint that Papenhuyzen would be replaced as first-choice goalkicker after a night to forget with the boot. The Storm fullback has a success rate over 80% this season but had been sidelined for the previous four weeks with a calf strain, making his return to the goal-kicking duties something of a surprise. Chargers late-round pick has already locked himself into a roster spot
The Los Angeles Chargers made strides to improve the wide receiver position this offseason, bringing back Mike Williams in free agency and then using a second-round pick to select Tre Harris out of Ole Miss. While Harris was a bit late to report to the team after a short holdout and Mike Williams abruptly retired, fifth-round pick KeAndre Lambert-Smith has gone from a guy many thought would be fighting for a roster spot to one who not only looks like a lock to make the team but also be a regular contributor as a rookie. Lambert-Smith has been red hot in training camp, and he parlayed that into a nice showing in the preseason opener, the Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit Lions. Lambert-Smith was not just a guy running through the motions of the preseason on Thursday night; he was a guy Chargers quarterback Trey Lance was looking for when he needed a play. Lambert-Smith figured to be a back-of-the-roster player the team could use in the slot if he made the roster at all. But he has shown in camp that he could be a player the team uses everywhere, particularly a team that seems to have many questions at the wide receiver position. Ladd McConkey is fantastic, and the hopes are high for Harris. But Quentin Johnston still leaves a lot to be desired and Derius Davis has only shown short flashes in his young career. The preseason could not be going any better than it has for Lambert-Smith and as a result, there should be absolutely no way he doesn't make the 53-man roster.
