Hollie Strano, former WKYC TV meteorologist, gets new gig in Stark County

Yahooa day ago
Hollie Strano, the former WKYC Channel 3 TV meteorologist, has landed a new gig in Stark County.
Strano, who was fired last year after 22 years with the station, will now bring Mix 94.1 radio listeners the weather each morning.
"Hollie Strano is an Emmy-winning mental health advocate, seasoned television professional, and nationally recognized public figure with over two decades of on-air experience," according to a post on the Canton station's website.
"A trusted meteorologist and the creator of Abruptly Authentic — streaming on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts — she blends science, storytelling, and soul to deliver impactful forecasts and fearless conversations across the country."

"Let's do this Stark County!" Strano said on Facebook. "So much love for you, Canton! Thank you for having me!"
Strano will forecast Monday-Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A message was left Aug. 18 with Mix 94.1 requesting comment on Strano's hiring.
Why did Hollie Strano lose her position at WKYC?
The station announced Strano's firing in September 2024, around nine months after she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence in November 2023. She later pleaded guilty to the charge.
"I am sad to share that after 22 plus years of dedicated work, WKYC and Tegna decided to terminate my employment after I shared my recovery journey publicly," she posted following her termination. "I believe the actions of WKYC and Tegna demonstrate the stigma surrounding addiction that so many in our community experience every day."

Shortly after she was fired, Strano filed a lawsuit against her former company, claiming she was terminated for sharing her alcoholism recovery journey on social media as well as promoting a product.
Strano also forecasts for southern radio stations
Last month, Strano also announced that she is doing forecast work for radio stations in the Georgia and Alabama areas.
"What an honor it is to be bringing you the forecast each day, from my hometown in Cleveland to your radios down South!" she said in a Facebook post. "Grateful for the opportunity, and excited for what's ahead."
She also hosts the "Abruptly Authentic with Hollie Strano" podcast on Youtube.

2025 Television Critics Association Awards winners: ‘The Pitt' claims more than any other show, Bridget Everett shocks after Emmy snub

Just weeks before the Emmys, The Pitt has gotten a big boost from the 2025 Television Critics Association Awards. HBO Max's medical drama, which takes place over an entire 15-hour hospital shift, won a leading four statuettes: Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Outstanding New Program, and Individual Achievement in Drama for Noah Wyle, who called his win "incredibly gratifying." The Pitt has 13 Emmy nominations next month, well behind the Emmy front-runner, Severance, with 27 bids. More from Gold Derby Jillian Michaels vs. Netflix's 'Biggest Loser' docuseries, explained Great guns! Giancarlo Esposito on being the first 'Boys' actor to muscle his way into the Emmy race One notable surprise champion was Bridget Everett for Somebody Somewhere (Individual Achievement in Comedy), who is not nominated at the Emmy Awards as an actress. She is, however, nominated for writing the HBO comedy series. "I am beyond grateful to be honored for this show, which has meant so much to me," she said. "And I'm especially grateful to have the opportunity to thank you, the critics, who saw what we were trying to do from the very beginning." Other TCA winners included The Studio (Outstanding Achievement in Comedy), Adolescence (Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries or Specials), Pee-wee as Himself (Outstanding Achievement in News and Information), SNL50: The Anniversary Special (Outstanding Achievement in Variety, Talk or Sketch), and The Traitors (Outstanding Achievement in Reality). All of those programs are out front to win their corresponding Emmy categories, per the Gold Derby odds. Matlock star Kathy Bates lost her individual acting race to Wyle, but she was honored with the Career Achievement Award for her enduring work in the industry. "Your recognition means the world to me, and I'm grateful to all of the TCA members for this incredible honor," she declared. "Your support and dedication to the television industry are invaluable, and I am truly humbled by your acknowledgment." Sesame Street claimed two prizes on Wednesday: Outstanding Achievement in Children's Programming and the prestigious Heritage Award. Finally, Doctor Who won Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming.
