Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviews preparations ahead of upcoming India Census — Details here
The Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting in New Delhi with the Union Home Secretary, RG&CCI and other senior officials on Sunday, 15 June 2025, to review the preparations for the upcoming Census, according to an official notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
'Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah reviewed the preparation for the forthcoming Census with the Union Home Secretary, RG&CCI and other senior officials in New Delhi, today,' said the official notification.
The announcement also highlighted that the Ministry will publish the notification of conducting the Census in the official gazette on Monday, 16 June 2025.
According to the official Ministry of Home Affairs announcement, the upcoming Census will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be the Houselisting Operation (HLO), which will measure and collect each household's housing conditions, assets, and amenities.
In the second phase of the upcoming Census, the Ministry will collect the Population Enumeration (PE). This will comprise the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and other details of every individual in each household. The Census Caste enumeration will also be done, according to the release on Sunday.
India's Home Ministry highlighted that the centre will be deploying nearly 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors, and around 1.3 lakh Census functionaries for the data collection.
According to the release on Sunday, the upcoming Census will be the 16th Census since the beginning of the nation, and the 8th Census after the country's independence in 1947.
The Ministry also highlighted that the Census will be conducted through digital means using mobile applications. This facility will give the people of the nation the provision and ability for 'self-enumeration.'
The centre also disclosed that there will be 'very stringent' data security and protection measures implemented to ensure that the data is secure at the time of collection, transmission as well as storage, according to the official statement.

Former deputy CM Nitin Patel was among the first to visit the mortuary, where he met Rupani's family and extended his condolences. Rupani, 68, who was the chief minister from August 2016 to September 2021, steered Gujarat through a critical post-Covid recovery phase. He was among the 242 passengers and crew members on board the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. While 241 persons on board the aircraft died, one passenger miraculously survived. Besides, 29 persons are reported to have died in the disaster on the ground, which includes five MBBS students.

Happily for CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, the important facts all seem in virtuous alignment. When BJP president J.P. Nadda chose Jaipur to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, it wasn't just about honouring a Maratha queen. Sharma, 18 months young in his tenure, had never managed to get himself off the receiving end of pointed social media gossip. Credible or not, the buzz about a change of guard was always in the air, like a beast with a life of its it is the imminence of a reshuffle in a cabinet strikingly full of freshers. With veterans getting restive and rival power centres coalescing, the recipe also has that extra lemon twist this time: the idea that Sharma's exit could be timed with Nadda's departure as BJP chief. The fuzzy chronology of the latter has prolonged the suspense, not ended it. All together, the perceived crisis of authority seemed serious enough to warrant a stage, Nadda wasted no time on platitudes. 'Making Bhajan Lal the CM is not the issue,' he declared, at the May 31 event. 'It's about having a dedicated soldier of the ideologyworking day and night under Modi's leadership.' As Sharma listened from the dais with a half-smile, Nadda cut deeper. 'When there's a difference between day and night, you ought to like the day,' he said. 'Kiraye ke Tattu': Union Minister shrugs off pro-Khalistani protests in Canada ahead of PM Modi's visit
Amidst demonstrations and calls for protests by Khalistani supporters and sympathizers during G7 Summit in Canada, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday brushed them aside as unwarranted and unjust and said that such deplorable acts deserve no attention. Speaking to the press, while attending a programme on 100 days of the Delhi government, the Union Minister said, 'Yeh Kiraye ke Tattu hain (they are hired agents). There is no need to take them seriously.' When questioned on reports of Sikh children being used in protests in Canada ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the G7 Summit, he said that these groups were previously aided and abetted by foreign funding, but now that their support has been cut off, they are resorting to such tactics. He added that such politically motivated acts should not be taken seriously. He further pointed out, 'There is another video that is going viral, which shows that people who get funding from a neighbouring country (Pakistan) turned up against them (Pakistan) when they didn't receive the funds.' Notably, a group of protesters with Khalistani banners on Canada streets, were seen in viral videos on Sunday, raising voice against PM Modi's visit to the North American country, where he will attend the G7 summit in Kananaskis. According to reports, children were also seen in the demonstrations, sparking strong condemnation and denunciation from the BJP leaders. Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, President of the All India Anti-Terrorist Front, warned against such provocative actions, "Those who are throwing stones at the Prime Minister's photo and burning his effigy, those days are gone. The fear you once tried to create is over. The Prime Minister went straight to the place where you used to ignite hate. Do whatever you want — he is standing before you. This stone-pelting, insulting the national flag — all of this has lost its impact now." BJP spokesperson and prominent Sikh leader R. P. Singh said, "I don't think the children are being brainwashed. Those children probably don't even know whose picture they are acting against. Maybe they also don't realise what PM Modi has done for this country, for Punjab, and for the Sikhs." Notably, the ties between India and Canada have remained frosty and strained for past few months, with latter, under Trudeau administration, holding India responsible for the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 on its soil. However, the invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to PM Modi enraged the pro-Khalistani outfits and leaders, who pledged to hold protests to lodge their voice.
