Entire Metrorail system to operate automatically starting this weekend

Yahoo13-06-2025
WASHINGTON () — Starting Sunday, the entire Metrorail system will operate on its (ATO), just six months after launching on the Red Line — and the first full return since 2009.
Not only will ATO roll out to the Blue, Orange and Silver lines, but Metro is also returning to the original speed of the system, up to 75 mph, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) .
'This is a major milestone for Metro, and it has been a long time coming. I want to thank the team for their dedication and commitment to making this happen,' said Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke. 'This is a win for customers and staff who will experience safer, more reliable rides. Meanwhile, Metro is saving money as ATO is more cost efficient.'

ATO controls the train's acceleration, deceleration and speed, getting signal and speed commands from equipment located between the tracks. This creates a smoother ride, enhances safety and improves on-time performance, officials said.
Train operators will still work in the cab and will be responsible for the safety of passengers. Operators are still responsible for monitoring track conditions and closing the doors when people are safely on board.
WMATA added that ATO is not used when there is inclement weather, single tracking or when workers are on the tracks.
Metro said there have been no safety issues or red signal violations since ATO was implemented on the Red Line in December last year. Since then, travel times have been reduced by eight minutes.
By June 22, Metro will reduce end-to-end times by about three minutes on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.
The Yellow and Green lines — which began using ATO in May — will also see decreased travel times of a couple of minutes.

Housing market supply is finally back in these 80 metro areas—and it's good news for buyers

Want more housing market stories from Lance Lambert's ResiClub in your inbox? Subscribe to the ResiClub newsletter. During the Pandemic Housing Boom, from summer 2020 to spring 2022, the number of active homes for sale in most housing markets plummeted as homebuyer demand quickly absorbed almost everything that came up for sale and sellers had ultimate power. Fast-forward to the current housing market, and the places where active inventory has rebounded to 2019 levels (due to strained affordability suppressing buyer demand) are now the very places where homebuyers have gained the most power. At the end of July 2025, national active housing inventory for sale was still -11% below June 2019 levels. However, more and more regional markets are surpassing that threshold. This list is growing: January 2025: 41 of the 200 largest metro area housing markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. February 2025: 44 of the 200 largest metro area housing markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. March 2025: 58 of the 200 largest metro area housing markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. April 2025: 69 of the 200 largest metro area housing markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. May 2025: 75 of these 200 major markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. June: 78 of these 200 major markets were back above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels. Now, at the latest reading for the end of July 2025, 80 of the 200 markets are above pre-pandemic 2019 inventory levels and ResiClub expects that count will continue to rise this year. Among these 80 markets, you'll find lots in Sun Belt markets like Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. Many of the softest housing markets, where homebuyers have gained leverage, are located in Gulf Coast and Mountain West regions. Some of these areas were among the nation's top pandemic boomtowns, having experienced significant home price growth during the pandemic housing boom, which stretched housing fundamentals far beyond local income levels. When pandemic-fueled domestic migration slowed and mortgage rates spiked, markets like Cape Coral, Florida, and San Antonio, Texas, faced challenges as they had to rely on local incomes to sustain frothy home prices. The housing market softening in these areas was further accelerated by the abundance of new home supply in the pipeline across the Sun Belt. Builders in these regions are often willing to reduce net effective prices or make other affordability adjustments to maintain sales. These adjustments in the new construction market also create a cooling effect on the resale market, as some buyers who might have opted for an existing home shift their focus to new homes where deals are still available. In contrast, many Northeast and Midwest markets were less reliant on pandemic migration and have less new home construction in progress. With lower exposure to that demand shock, active inventory in these Midwest and Northeast regions has remained relatively tight, keeping the advantage in the hands of home sellers. Generally speaking, housing markets where inventory (i.e., active listings) has returned to pre-pandemic levels have experienced softer/weaker home price growth (or outright declines) over the past 36 months. Conversely, housing markets where inventory remains far below pre-pandemic levels have, generally speaking, experienced more resilient home price growth over the past 36 months. Meta Platforms Reshape Financial Product Buying in India: Study

You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. A new study commissioned by Meta and conducted by IPSOS reveals that digital platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp are increasingly central to how Indians make financial decisions. The report, From Feeds to Financial Futures, surveyed over 2,000 respondents aged 25–45 across four metro cities and found that six of the top eight touchpoints in the financial product purchase journey are digital with Meta accounting for three. Short-form videos, creator-led Reels, and direct business messaging are emerging as key tools in financial discovery, evaluation, and purchase. The study shows that 57 per cent of users rely on Instagram and 53 per cent on Facebook for financial decisions, while one in two use WhatsApp to evaluate products. Meta platforms influence 81 per cent of users during discovery, 79 per cent during evaluation, and 83 per cent at the purchase stage. Instagram Reels and Facebook videos are simplifying complex topics like insurance and mutual funds, driving higher engagement and conversion. Financial podcasts (75 per cent trust) and influencers (67 per cent trust) are now seen as more relatable than celebrity endorsements. Women are also leading this digital shift. The study notes that 80 per cent of women surveyed make independent financial decisions, with higher engagement than men on Instagram and WhatsApp. WhatsApp's role is particularly notable, used by 44 per cent of respondents at discovery, 50 per cent at evaluation, and 48 per cent at purchase. Policybazaar reported a 43 per cent higher conversion rate using Click to WhatsApp campaigns versus traditional Meta web campaigns. "Financial planning is integral to the lives of most Indians across income groups. But this process is rapidly evolving, fueled by digital. Whether it's the growing role of Meta platforms in the purchase journey, the increasing influence of Reels and creators, the rising role of business messaging or the growing number of women who are taking independent financial decisions – the study dispels many myths about how financial products are discovered and bought today, offering valuable insights for marketers and brands in the industry," shared Shweta Bajpai, Director Financial Services, Media, Travel, Real Estate, & Services (India), Meta.
