At least 20 dead as aid truck overturns in central Gaza

At least 20 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured early Wednesday when a truck loaded with food aid overturned in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah, according to Palestinian medical sources. The truck was reportedly driving along an unprepared, makeshift road when it tipped over as large crowds of civilians gathered around it, attempting to reach the desperately needed supplies. The chaos resulted in the vehicle overturning directly into the crowd. Medical officials confirmed that the majority of the victims were displaced persons and residents from severely affected areas who have been struggling with extreme food insecurity. Witnesses report that the victims had been waiting for hours to receive the aid being distributed. The incident is the latest in a string of fatal aid-related accidents in the besieged enclave, where access to food, water, and medical assistance remains critically limited. In recent months, hundreds have been killed or wounded during chaotic aid distributions, as international organizations continue to warn of a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation.
