Company that brought Coldplay to Hong Kong to open new concert venue this year

The organiser that brought popular bands Coldplay and Blackpink to Hong Kong will fill a 'venue gap' by opening a new mid-sized concert space this autumn, adding to the city's efforts to develop a mega-event economy.

Live Nation's president of venue development in Asia, Stephanie Bax, said on Wednesday that the company would convert a part of The Whampoa, the ship-shaped shopping centre in Hung Hom, into a live music venue with a standing capacity of 1,500 called 'Tides'.
'People come to Hong Kong for many reasons but they stay for the energy and that's so important when you're throwing live events,' she said. 'We want to tap into that energy, so Hong Kong just seemed like an obvious choice.'
Bax said Live Nation had initiated the project and would fund and operate the venue, with support from the city government.
Joanna Yuen, the company's managing director in Hong Kong, said the site addressed 'a significant venue gap' in the city, as there were currently only small clubs for music performances or the new 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, with few mid-sized options in between.

The stadium was opened in March as part of the government's efforts to boost the city's economy through hosting mega-events.

Who is Kentaro Sakaguchi, Lisa from Blackpink's rumoured beau?

Japanese actor Kentaro Sakaguchi, 34, has recently become the focus of intense rumours about whether he is dating Lisa from Blackpink The buzz began after fans noticed both stars using Lisa's new single 'Dream' as background music to a similar scenic photo on their Instagram stories. Sakaguchi was also present at Blackpink's 'Deadline' concert in South Korea alongside Lisa's family members. The rumours were fuelled further when a photo of Lisa playfully biting a man's arm emerged, with the mystery guy later confirmed to be Sakaguchi. However, any involvement in recent weeks now in fact appears to have been related to a short film for 'Dream' that the pair made together. Some have accepted the film as Sakaguchi and Lisa's reason for spending so much time with the actor, others still aren't convinced. How the legacy of beloved Hong Kong comic strip Old Master Q lives on

Beloved by children, parents, aunties and grandparents alike, this tall, thin, bespectacled and mustachioed gentleman clad in traditional Chinese attire seems to have emerged straight out of the Qing dynasty to observe, under his furrowed brow, the boomtown Hong Kong has become. Old Master Q (老夫子) is too honest, too trusting, too kind for the city's dog-eat-dog ways, but one who always gets up and dusts himself off. After first appearing in February 1962, the manhua art , or Chinese-language comics, of Alfonso Wong Kar-hei was ubiquitous over the decades that would see him produce more than 18,000 individual comic strips. Old Master Q comic strips on display at an exhibition at Comix Home Base, in Wan Chai, Hong Kong, in 2017. Photo: Robert Ng Attending a Sotheby's Hong Kong exhibition of his work in 2014 , Wong said: 'I firmly believe that drawing comics is not to laugh at other people who fall, but to make my readers laugh by falling, like a clown who makes fun of himself to entertain the audience.' By most accounts, Wong, who died in 2017 , would have turned 100 this year (his birth date being debatable to within a year or two, depending on the source) and fans have recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of Old Master Q's serialisation in Hong Kong magazines, daily newspapers and comic-book reissues, all reflecting social changes over those turbulent decades. By the character's side are: Big Potato (大番薯), a portly Master Q mini-me; the bookish and reliable Mr Chin (秦先生); the gold-digging Miss Chan (陳小姐), adored by Old Master Q but who ditches him for the first rich guy that comes along; and the wealthy but petty Old Chiu (老趙), who is constantly pranking our hero. Photo: Handout Wong's array of characters could be harsh judges, cruel even, reflecting what many saw as a rise in selfishness and money worship. Crime, scams, the widening gap between rich and poor, and barriers between Cantonese and English speakers were regular themes, and pop music, modern art and high fashion all came in for mockery in the decades after the booming colony saw its population hit 3 million, while across the border mainland China increasingly closed itself off to the outside world. These were Hong Kong's boom years and Wong captured it all in his cartoons and never shied away from anything prickly, including the city's transfer of sovereignty from Britain to China in 1997.

Who is Kim Nam-gil, the Korean actor best known for K-dramas Trigger and The Fiery Priest?

Korean heartthrob Kim Nam-gil remained as hot as ever this year, performing double duty on global streaming platform Netflix as the lead of the topical action-drama Trigger and in a cameo role in the dark thriller Karma Advertisement Like many others, Kim made his acting debut in the KBS anthology series School, a programme that has become a training ground for many small-screen stars over the years. He appeared in the very first iteration of the show, back in 1999, when he was still a teenager. Among his co-stars that season were other future bright lights such as Bae Doona , Yum Jung-ah, Jang Hyuk, Yang Dong-geun and Choi Gang-hee. But unlike other School alumni, Kim would not parlay that appearance into a screen career straight away. In fact, it would be five years until he notched another credit. This period-set tale, starring Cho Seung-woo, was one of the latter works of legendary Korean filmmaker Im Kwon-taek. Why we love him
