ITV commissions true crime series about one of Britain's 'most prolific sex attackers'

A new true crime series about the victims of 'one of the most prolific sex attackers in British history' has been commissioned by ITV.
The four-part drama, Believe Me, will recount the story of three victims who were assaulted by John Worboys after he went under the cover of a licensed taxi-cab driver and later given the name Black Cab Rapist by the media.

Written by Bafta-award winning screenwriter Jeff Pope, the series features Slow Horses star Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Industry's Miriam Petche and Bloods actress Aasiya Shah, who will play the women Worboys sexually assaulted.
Writer, director and producer Jeff Pope (Lucy North/PA)
Worboys will be played by English actor Daniel Mays, who is best known for A Thousand Blows.
Pope said: 'The series goes on an emotional journey with the victims of Worboys' attacks, showing what happened to them when they reported being raped and assaulted, the pain and indignity of the process and how this dehumanised them.
'But most shocking of all is how they felt that not being believed by the police and having the attacks recorded, essentially, as non-crimes, was as traumatising for them as the actual assaults.'

The series follows two women as they report sexual assaults by Worboys and their fight to have their allegations believed and investigated by the Metropolitan Police, leading them to take legal action against the force under the Human Rights Act.

Directed by Julia Ford, the series is filmed in Cardiff and will be produced with support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales.
Polly Hill, director of Drama at ITV, said: 'We are really proud to be working with Jeff Pope to bring this important story to screen.
'For too long, the women were not heard by the police, resulting in more victims and ultimately resulting in a landmark case brought against the Met.

'Jeff's scripts, as always, are brilliant in bringing this difficult but important story to screen, and I am delighted that Julia Ford will be directing the piece.'
The drama will air on ITV1 and STV and be available for streaming on ITVX and STV Player.

Private tutor who molested Muslim girls as young as eight while he taught them about the Koran at their homes is jailed for 14 years after victim, 15, spoke up

A paedophile private tutor who molested Muslim girls in their homes while he taught them about the Koran has been jailed after one of his victim's bravely spoke out. Umair Iqbal, 38, preyed on the girls, aged between eight and 18, over a 10-year period while tutoring his victims in maths and to learn the Koran. The bespectacled predator regularly attended the homes of the youngsters to carry out lessons - before going on to sexually assault his pupils. His reign of terror only came to an end when one of victims, aged just 15, courageously reported his warped behaviour to police after years of abuse. Iqbal, of Cheetham Hill, Manchester, has now been sentenced to 14 years, 11 of which will be served in prison, with three years on licence after his release He was sentenced on Thursday at Manchester Crown Court following a four-week trial last month when he was convicted by a jury of 29 out of 30 counts of sexual assault. Police first launched inquiries in October 2020 when a 15-year-old victim came forward, after years of believing the abuse was her own fault. A subsequent investigation revealed four more victims, including one girl who had been abused from the age of eight. Detective Constable Alex Dodd, from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: 'All five victims were young Muslim girls from good families, abused by a person in a position of trust and silenced through fear of getting in trouble or being blamed for the abuse. 'Iqbal befriended families and used the good reputation of a community to hide behind his sordid sexual agenda. 'Securing justice for these victims is a positive outcome for Rochdale's complex safeguarding team. 'The multi-agency work we do in Rochdale is a collaborative force for good. 'It involves GMP officers, children's services, youth workers, social workers, health professionals, housing officers and public protection services, all working together to investigate child sexual exploitation (CSE), safeguard victims, uncover the truth and bring offenders to justice. 'I would like to recognise and thank all five victims and their families for their determination during the lengthy investigation and four-week trial, which was a distressing process for them. 'We encourage anyone who feels they may have been subjected to Mr Iqbal's behaviour to come forward and report it on 101 quoting Operation Ganister.'

Princess Andre's management respond after mum Katie Price lashes out over reality show

Princess Andre's management, The CAN Group, have shared a statement with the Mirror after Katie Price lashed out on her podcast over her daughter's reality TV show Princess Andre's management have issued a statement after Katie Price lashed out over her daughter's reality TV show. ‌ Princess, 18, is set to star in her own documentary series, The Princess Diaries, which is airing on ITV this weekend. Katie and Peter Andre's daughter has been paving out her own career in showbiz and her documentary series will take a look at her blossoming career and life in the limelight. ‌ The new series is set to kick start on Sunday August 10 at 9pm. However, rumours of a rift between Princess and Katie emerged in recent days as it was revealed her former glamour model mum will not appear on the series. It comes after Katie Price reaches out to Harvey's lookalike half-brother but fears 'he's too scared'. ‌ Katie later spoke out and has said she refuses to watch the TV series starring her daughter, but insisted there was no rift between herself and Princess – and instead lashed out at Princess' management company in an episode of The Katie Price Show released yesterday. Katie shared her upset as she was allegedly "not allowed" to take part in the show – despite apparent offers to do so for free. In the lengthy rant in the episode of her podcast, Katie claimed: "I've always said, over my dead body would I ever want her to manage my kids because she doesn't like me and Pete and me don't talk. I am very, very, very upset that Princess has signed with them." ‌ She added: "Now she's managing Princess and Junior, out of my control, I want the best for Junior and Princess, always, and I will never get in the way of it. But what hurts my feelings – and it does upset me – is when your kids grow up, you go to their assemblies, you go to their Christmas things, you go to their awards, you know, you go to their football matches or their gymnastics, you're involved in everything they do. "And knowing that what my career has been, Princess is taking that same path – trying to do the same as what I've done – which I absolutely love and adore of Princess but I had not been allowed to go on any photoshoot, no signings or Superdrug openings or anything like that. Why? Because I'm not allowed and I'm not welcome." Now, Princess' management company have responded. When contacted by the Mirror, The CAN Group said: "As a company, our duty of care to our clients is paramount. We would never advise a client on their personal life unless asked and we have never stopped anyone seeing their families." ‌ Meanwhile, Princess has continued to focus on her flourishing career as she made an appearance at beauty brand Space NK's new story in London ahead of its official opening today. Princess also appeared on This Morning today alongside her big brother Junior, where she discussed her reality show and spills what fans can expect to see as she spilled: "You see me growing with confidence as it goes on. You see my family, it's just really fun." She also discussed her decision to do the show as she said: "I got older and a lot more things have come in for me solo. A lot of things I used to do was with my parents and now I'm doing a show that is independent and actually focused on me. Now is the right time because my life is busy right now and I want people to see it." As This Morning posted a clip of the siblings' appearance on their Instagram, Pete left a sweet message which read: "Love you both. Keep being you" followed by a heart emoji.
