Private schools in Pondy, Karaikal record 97 per cent pass rate in board exams
PUDUCHERRY: The private schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions recorded an overall pass percentage of 96.9% in Class 10 examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu Education Board. All the government schools in the union territory switched to the CBSE syllabus during the 2024-2025 academic year.
According to the results released by the Directorate of School Education, Puducherry, out of 8,267 students -- 4,290 boys and 3,977 girls -- who wrote the examinations, 8,011 students passed -- 4,109 boys and 3,902 girls.
Region-wise, Puducherry reported a pass percentage of 97.37%, while Karaikal recorded 93.6%. Of the 180 private schools across both regions, 113 achieved a 100% pass result — 95 from Puducherry and 18 from Karaikal. A total of 320 students scored centum, including 151 in Social Science, 132 in Science, 24 in French, nine in Mathematics, and four in English.
In a notable achievement, the students from Anandha Rangapillai Government Special Higher Secondary School for Visually and Hearing Impaired (VH & HI) -- run by the Social Welfare Department at Pillaichavady, Puducherry -- secured 100% pass.

Govt to felicitate top performing students in board exams today
Lucknow: Encouraging academic excellence, the state govt will felicitate top-performing students of the 2025 high school and intermediate board examinations on Thursday. According to director, secondary education, Mahendra Dev, a total of 166 meritorious students will be honoured at the state-level function. Each of them will receive Rs 1 lakh, a tablet, a citation certificate, and a medal. These students include the top 10 boys and girls each from UP Board, Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad, CBSE, and ICSE boards. In addition, parallel events will be held in all 75 districts where 1,508 students — 758 from high school and 750 from intermediate — will be awarded Rs 21,000, a tablet, a citation certificate, and a medal each. These awards will be presented by district ministers-in-charge, public representatives, or district magistrates. Of the 166 students, 85 are from UP Board, 20 from Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad, 32 from CISCE, and 29 from CBSE.

Infrastructure gaps a hurdle for most govt schools in Gurgaon to get PM Shri tag
Gurgaon: Of 18 govt senior secondary schools in the district that applied for PM Shri status, 16 have failed to meet the mandatory infrastructure and compliance requirements. The deficiencies include a lack of a fire NOC, approved building plans, and essential facilities such as well-equipped libraries, science laboratories, and playgrounds. The district education department has confirmed that only two schools have so far met the criteria set under the PM Shri (Prime Minister Schools for Rising India) scheme. Launched by the central govt in 2022, the PM Shri scheme aims to develop selected govt schools into model institutions with enhanced infrastructure, digital classrooms, and innovative learning practices. Once selected, these schools receive direct funding from the centre for infrastructure development and academic enhancement. Currently, only 8 out of 130 govt schools in the district have been granted PM Shri status. These schools are spread across the blocks of Gurgaon, Sohna, Farrukhnagar, and Pataudi—two in each block. Three of these schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). According to the education department, the following 18 senior secondary govt schools have submitted applications: Kasan Girls Senior Secondary School, Bas Hariya Senior Secondary School, Jatauli Senior Secondary School, Kasan Boys Senior Secondary School, Model Sanskriti School, Farrukhnagar, Kankrola Senior Secondary School, Haily Mandi Girls School, among others. The department emphasised that only schools that meet all the necessary standards will be upgraded under the scheme. Assistant project coordinator Satya Narayan Yadav confirmed that inspections are underway, and schools found lacking have been given time to rectify issues.

Kanchi Acharya releases Tamil translation of books published by The Hindu Group on Mahaswamigal
The pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya, on Tuesday released the Tamil translations of two volumes of the book published by The Hindu Group titled, 'Embodiment of Truth - Kanchi Mahaswami' (Unmayin Avatharam - Kanchi Mahaswami), at the Kanchi Mutt's branch in Tirupati. He appreciated The Hindu Group for its role in bringing the teachings and discourses of the 68th pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Mahaswamigal, to the public. He said the two volumes were published in English earlier, and based on requests from devotees, the Tamil version had been published. The Shankaracharya said the book detailed Mahaswamigal's life, spiritual journeys, public discourses, teachings, and the widespread reception he received, which were compiled from news reports and photographs published in The Hindu. It also includes his personal experiences with Mahaswamigal, the Shankaracharya said. Close relationship Further, the Shankaracharya highlighted the close relationship between the Kanchi Mutt and The Hindu Group, recalling Mahaswamigal's visit to The Hindu office. The first and second copies of the books were received by Prof. Devanathachariar of the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, and P. Vaidyanathan, Chairman, Integrated Enterprises, respectively.
