The pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya, on Tuesday released the Tamil translations of two volumes of the book published by The Hindu Group titled, 'Embodiment of Truth - Kanchi Mahaswami' (Unmayin Avatharam - Kanchi Mahaswami), at the Kanchi Mutt's branch in Tirupati.
He appreciated The Hindu Group for its role in bringing the teachings and discourses of the 68th pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Shankaracharya Mahaswamigal, to the public. He said the two volumes were published in English earlier, and based on requests from devotees, the Tamil version had been published.
The Shankaracharya said the book detailed Mahaswamigal's life, spiritual journeys, public discourses, teachings, and the widespread reception he received, which were compiled from news reports and photographs published in The Hindu. It also includes his personal experiences with Mahaswamigal, the Shankaracharya said.
Close relationship
Further, the Shankaracharya highlighted the close relationship between the Kanchi Mutt and The Hindu Group, recalling Mahaswamigal's visit to The Hindu office. The first and second copies of the books were received by Prof. Devanathachariar of the National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, and P. Vaidyanathan, Chairman, Integrated Enterprises, respectively.
Prior to the release, special rituals were held at the Kamakshi Amman temple in Kancheepuram and Mahaswamigal's Adhishtanam at Kanchi Mutt.
The price of the two volumes is ₹799. As a limited period launch offer, the two volumes are priced at ₹599. Readers can get the copies by visiting The Hindu bookstore website: https://publications.thehindugroup.com/bookstore/

Pune: The new Std I textbooks for state board schools introduce a fresh, activity-based approach to learning for more exciting classrooms across Maharashtra. Moving beyond traditional methods, these books focus on developing 68 key skills through storytelling, games, puzzles, songs, and hands-on activities with consideration to children's emotional worlds and their preferences. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Designed under National Education Policy 2020 guidelines and inspired by the CBSE pattern, the curriculum includes three subjects—Marathi, mathematics and English. The emphasis is on understanding rather than memorising, with concepts taught using local contexts and the mother tongue to make learning relatable and enjoyable. Special care was taken to include elements of India's traditional knowledge systems while also preparing children for future challenges. Experts said this is a big step towards making education child-friendly and meaningful. With more space for creativity and expression, these books are expected to make the classroom a place where curiosity and joy lead the way. Rama Kulkarni, principal of SPM English Medium School's primary section, said, "The textbooks have more focus on activity-based learning with NEP as the base. For instance, instead of reading and writing, the curriculum has listening and communication skills." Although there is not much difference in the language subject textbook compared to the last year, the focus is on enrichment. Ajay Kale, a primary teacher at District Council School in Siddhewadi in Tasgaon in Sangli district said the textbooks are contextually relevant, taking local conditions into account, with a foundation in the mother tongue. Kale, who is also a state-level expert guide in Std I curriculum training, said, "Independent space is provided for activities. "Effective implementation of NCERT guidelines was ensured while preparing the curriculum and textbooks. Importance was given to activity-based and experience-based learning for students. The creation of new textbooks reflects an effort to prepare school students from the primary level to face upcoming challenging situations and various competitive exams," he added. Ahmedabad air crash: ‘We could not determine if the victims were children or adults'
The bodies retrieved from the B.J. Medical College premises where the London-bound Air India plane crashed on Thursday (June 12, 2025) were charred, making it difficult to determine if they were children or adults, paramilitary officials involved in the rescue operation told The Hindu. Police Commissioner G.S Malik told The Hindu that 204 bodies were recovered from the crash site, and 41 injured persons were rushed to the hospital. He said the DNA and blood samples of the deceased were being preserved for identification. Air India Ahmedabad-London flight crash: Updates 'The chances of survivors may be there, we cannot say anything at this point,' Mr. Malik said. He said the total number of people present at the medical college at the time of the incident is not known yet. 'We must have pulled out around 200 bodies. They were charred beyond recognition, some bodies were dismembered. Due to the impact of the fire, the bodies had shrunk. We wrapped them in yards of white cloth brought in by the local administration, and put them in ambulances,' an officer from one of the CAPFs said. Hundreds of CAPF personnel drawn from the Central Industrial Security Force, Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army were pressed into rescue and relief work at the crash site on Thursday. The CAPFs posted in Gujarat, including the medical units, were mobilised to help the civil administration in rescue work and crowd management. 'A part of the plane crashed into the medical college's dining area where students were having lunch. Soon a huge ball of fire erupted and engulfed the residential buildings nearby which housed families of resident doctors. We saw sarees dangling from several balconies, indicating the occupants would have tried to escape the fire by jumping from the buildings,' said another CAPF official. The plane crashed at 1.38 p.m. on Thursday into the B.J Medical College in Meghaninagar. Other residential buildings were also affected. A CCTV footage of the incident at Ahmedabad airport showed that the plane crashed in less than 40 seconds after taking off. Indian Army teams comprising 130 personnel were deployed and excavators were moved in to clear the debris. 'Horrific site' 'It was a horrific site. We could find no survivors. All we were doing was pulling out bodies from the rubble. We found carcasses of several cats and dogs too,' said the CAPF official. Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Ahmedabad soon after the incident. 'Pained beyond words by the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Disaster response forces have been quickly rushed to the crash site. Spoke with the Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Home Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi, and Commissioner of Police Ahmedabad to assess the situation,' he posted on X. He visited the injured persons at the Civil Hospital and later reviewed the rescue operations. The London-bound plane had 242 passengers and crew on board. It included '169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals', said a statement from Air India.
