Kaizer Chiefs R20m short of signing Nabi's dream striker!

Kaizer Chiefs were reportedly feeling confident that a deal can be struck to sign Fiston Mayele for next season. Mayele has been the top target for coach Nasreddine Nabi, who's made it no secret that he wants him at Chiefs. The two have a long standing working relationship together, having formed a bond while Yanga SC. It was therefore, no surprise they were linked with a reunion at Chiefs last season. While at the Tanzanian giants, Nabi relied on Mayele as his top striker and the DRC international duly obliged. Furthermore, they went on to win a double treble together, also reaching the CAF Confederation Cup final. After the 2022/23 season, both parties left Timu Ya Wananchi and went their separate ways. Despite both being linked with Chiefs, Nabi ended up at Moroccan side AS FAR while Mayele signed for Pyramids FC. While the Tunisian eventually joined the Amakhosi set up the next season, the goal poacher stayed put in Egypt. He did so to good effect too, having won the CAF Champions League for the first time in his career. It was also the first time the young Egyptian side had won the crown. But on Nabi's side, despite winning the Nedbank Cup, his Chiefs side finished outside the top eight. He then further emphasised the lack of fire power upfront. It is no secret that Mayele is the target but according to Soccer-Laduma , he may be too expensive. 'The only way Mayele can join Kaizer Chiefs is if the player himself wants to reunite with coach Nasreddine Nabi. It won't be because of money. Pyramids FC are offering him enough money to stay at the club or sell him to a club that can offer more money than Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs are believed to be offering around a R5 million signing on fee to be spread in three seasons and a monthly salary of between R1 million and up to R1.5 million. So it's kind of difficult for Chiefs to sign him if it's all about money only. Unless the player himself loves to come and play for the club,' said the source. That would would add up to about R53 million. Still R21 million short of the reported R74 million Pyramids are reportedly offering to extend Mayele's deal for two-years. Maluleke tips Mofokeng for 2024

'He has been scoring goals and assists in South African football,' Maluleke said. Relebohile Mofokeng of Orlando Pirates celebrates goal during the Betway Premiership 2024/25 match against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on the 03 May 2025 © Samuel Shivambu/BackpagePix Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Manning Rangers striker Ishmael Maluleke has thrown his support behind Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng as his pick for the 2024/25 PSL Footballer of the Season. Ribeiro is the favourite While Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro has emerged as the favourite, Maluleke believes Mofokeng's impact throughout the campaign puts him in with a shout for the coveted award. ALSO READ: Bafana goalscorer Kwayiba now wants 'big three' move Ribeiro finished the season as the league's top goalscorer with 16 goals in 26 appearances and chipped in with nine assists as the Brazilians clinched a record-extending eighth consecutive title. Despite Sundowns falling short in the Carling Knockout final, Ribeiro still made his mark, scoring once and providing three assists on the road to the decider. Maluleke, however, is convinced that Mofokeng deserves the top individual honour. The 20-year-old sensation established himself as a key figure in the Buccaneers' attack with a 13-goal contribution in the league, scoring five goals and eight assists. Mofokeng also played a crucial role in Pirates' MTN8 Cup triumph, scoring twice, including a goal in the final against Stellenbosch FC. He added two more assists in the tournament and impressed in the Nedbank Cup despite Pirates' defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the final. The Footballer of the Season award is both nominated and voted for by the 16 Betway Premiership head coaches. Each coach is allowed one vote, though they cannot select a player from their own club. 'I think for me, it has to be Relebohile Mofokeng. He has been scoring goals and assists in South African football,' Maluleke said on Radio 2000. 'Again, he played well in the CAF Champions League and did well. So I think for me, I would go for him because he did well for Pirates but he also did well for Bafana Bafana.' Maluleke, who claimed the PSL Top Goalscorer award in the 2001/02 season with 18 goals for Manning Rangers, believes Mofokeng is ready for the European stage. 'This is the time for him to leave, if there was a better time for him to leave, this is it. He can leave now and work on whatever qualities he needs to improve on,' Maluleke said. Pirate's Mofokeng 'can do well' at Barcelona 'If he can find a better team like the rumours we've heard like Barcelona and all those kinds of things, he can do well because of the kind of calibre of a player that he is. The most important thing that will make sure that a striker will score goals is the conditioning of a player. ALSO READ: Bafana find their fire to blaze past Mozambique 'I think if he can focus on conditioning his body as well to make sure that it becomes one of the qualities that can make him withstand all the pressure. To become an overall player as well, he must not rely on being passed the ball but he must become an overall player who can also defend when the team needs him.'

Pirates news: R15 million, free agent opportunity, captain saga

Orlando Pirates are on the verge of adding several stars to their already talented squad, boasting playmakers from Relebohile Mofokeng to Patrick Maswanganyi. According to reports, the Soweto giants will need to pay R15 million for teenage target Prince Ndlovu. 'Highlanders FC value Prince (Ndlovu) and that's why they are pricing him at around R15million,' a source revealed. 'For now this price is believed to be directed at South African team Orlando Pirates because apparently they are the ones who have enquired about his services. Highlanders believe it's a fair price looking at his talent, quality and future ahead of him.' Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are left without a captain following the release of Innocent Maela – highly-rated defender Nkosinathi Sibisi is among the favourites to get the armband. AmaZulu playmaker Rowan Human has informed his club that he will not be signing a contract extension, making him a free agent in the offseason window and opening the door for Pirates, who were reportedly interested in the 24-year-old back in January. 'AmaZulu FC midfielder Rowan Human has been offered to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs by his representatives as he is set to leave the club on a free transfer. Human will leave Usuthu at the end of June after his contract expires after the 24-year-old failed to reach an agreement with the club on a new contract,' a source revealed. 'Human has been offered to both Soweto giants by his representatives and it could only be a matter of time before he gets snapped up as he will be a free agent and rediscovered his old form.'
