Mechanic unveils key warning signs before investing in a used car
The car expert, who goes by Shift Perfect on TikTok, broke down the key features to check on before making a used car your own.
'First off, just because the engine's pretty, doesn't mean it runs good,' he began. 'Of course, go ahead and check your oil and coolant.'
The mechanic continued: 'Here's where we start getting into the good stuff.
'Go ahead and make sure you feel the engine. If it's already warm, they ran it before you got to them.
'That doesn't always mean the engine is bad, but it can hide noises from when the engine started cold.'
He then urged people to wipe the oil on a white napkin - whether the engine was hot or cold.
'If you see any metal flakes, that could indicate catastrophic engine damage,' he explained.
The mechanic also said to get a 'good OBD2 reader' to check the emission-monitored readiness.
This scanner plugs into a car and works with the vehicle's computer system to share diagnostic information.
It can reveal diagnostic trouble codes, real-time data, and potential issues that could cost you a lot of money to repair.
He explained: 'If those emission monitors aren't set it means they cleared the codes out which usually means they're trying to hide something wrong with the vehicle.'
One comment read: 'Overall good advice.'
In another video, David Long, who is known online as the Car Wizard, detailed the six vehicles he thinks prospective buyers should never purchase.
The car enthusiast emphasized to 'not buy [them] under any circumstance, no matter what kind of good price or deal you're getting.'
He warned that despite getting a discount, the amount of money that you'll spend on fixing these cars up won't make them worth it in the long run.
Some of the cars on his list included a 2004 to 2010 Ford F150 or Expedition F250, cars that have General Motors' 3.6 liter V6, and any European car with more than 150,000 miles.

Avoid hitting your tyre into kerb with driving expert's easy two-step method
Whether you've been driving for a few months or years, getting out of a parking spot isn't always an easy task. Now here's a simple trick to help you master it every time It doesn't matter if you're an expert at driving, certain tasks behind the wheel can often be difficult. Sometimes road signs, like the two "confusing" lines on a kerb or the meaning of a certain road marking, could be enough to leave motorists scratching their heads. Now those who find it painful manoeuvring out of a parking space will know the struggles of hitting their tyre into the kerb. But it doesn't have to be hard anymore as popular TikTok user @master_driver666, who has 1.4million followers, recently revealed how to safely leave a parking space without jamming your wheels into anything. In a recent upload, the driving guru captioned her video: "How to safely leave a parking space without hitting the steps." It shows a big red car slamming their tyre into the side before a voiceover is heard saying "no" and then it happens again with the back of the wheels. Seconds later there's a simple explanation as to how to master the technique by aligning the passenger's door handle with the edge of the kerb. Then at that point, you can turn to the side and leave the space without making any damage. The trick is just seconds long so you don't need to spend much time faffing with getting all your angles right. Just follow two simple steps – stop when your handle is in line with the kerb and then leave the spot. Since it was shared, the video scooped over 5,200 likes and dozens of comments. One pointed out: "Just look at the mirror." While another added: "It's called a wide turn all truck drivers know that expert car drivers." Although the Highway Code doesn't have a rule specifically against "hitting the kerb", it has guidance on how to avoid mounting it as the practice is dangerous and can lead to a major fault on a driving test. Rule 2 on page 4 advises motorists to avoid hitting the kerb while being aware of pedestrians on the road and ensuring safety around other drivers. Many learners might even assume hitting the kerb will result in an instant fail, but it's not always the case. It could, however, be marked down as a major as a simple touch or clip during a manoeuvre is only a minor.

BMW thinks more customers want special paint jobs

General Motors could replace its aging van lineup with a rebadged Hyundai Staria under the Chevrolet badge, offering electric and hybrid options as early as 2028. View post: This Cordless Hedge Trimmer Is a 'Game Changer for Garden Maintenance' — And It's Only $40 at Walmart The one-of-two Lamborghini Gallardo Concept S is back at Monterey Car Week for the Gallardo's 20th anniversary, revisiting the stage where it first wowed enthusiasts. UK motoring publication Motor Express reports that Vee-Dub is trying out a power subscription on owners of the cheapest EV it sells in the country. It's Scheduled To Open In 2027 Luxury brands are emphasizing personalization in order to keep customers coming back—and spending more money when they do. Case in point is BMW, which recently announced an investment of over 30 million euros ($34.9 million at current exchange rates) to expand the paint shop at its assembly plant in Dingolfing, Germany. 0:04 / 0:09 Walmart is selling an 'amazing' $47 tire inflator for $25, and shoppers say it's 'portable and efficient' Walmart is selling an 'amazing' $47 tire inflator for $25, and shoppers say it's 'portable and efficient' Watch More The investment will fund a new Centre for Special and Individual Paintwork so cater to personalization requests. While the main goal is to improve efficiency, a human touch will still be part of the process at this new facility, BMW said in a press release. A groundbreaking is scheduled for September of this year, and the facility is expected to enter operation in 2027. Efficiency Meets Personalization Located south of the existing paint shop at the Dingolfing factory, the Centre for Special and Individual Paintwork will cover about 21,000 square feet across two levels and will be staffed by up to 10 people. They'll work alongside robots, with the initial color coat applied by machine and any special touches—such as stripes, two-tone schemes, or other custom finishes—will be applied by hand. Finished paint will be dried by electric (rather than gas) heat, helping to lower environmental impact. Bodies will then get a final clear coat on the main production line. BMW offers up to 300 color shades for customers to choose from, not including special finishes for limited-edition models. The new facility will create a more efficient process for some of the lower-volume paint jobs, so that more cars can leave the factory with individualized paint, according to the automaker. BMW expects throughput times to fall by a quarter, with reductions in the cost per painted body as well. Personalization Options Soar BMW isn't the only luxury brand to emphasize personalization options. Mercedes-Benz recently opened an entire new facility for its Manufaktur division, which specializes in individualized options and limited-edition models. Cadillac just announced its own Curated by Cadillac personalization program, which kicks off with a limited-edition CT5-V Blackwing. About the Author Stephen Edelstein View Profile

Hyundai Unveils Attractive August Lease Deal on 2025 Sonata
By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. If you're considering short-term ownership of the fastest Corolla ever made, August might be a good time to take the plunge. General Motors could replace its aging van lineup with a rebadged Hyundai Staria under the Chevrolet badge, offering electric and hybrid options as early as 2028. A compelling family sedan Family sedans remain a vital part of the American automotive landscape, as evidenced by their solid sales figures amid a growing market of crossovers, SUVs, and trucks. The mainstream mid-size family sedan segment remains contentious, with juggernauts like the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. Just don't count out the 2025 Hyundai Sonata because it's got a ton of appealing standard features and a facelift that makes the Sonata look more refined and aggressive. What is the Sony Honda Mobility Afeela 1? Watch More The 2025 Hyundai Sonata in base trim is powered by a 191-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder powering the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission, as opposed to the more prevalent (and less fun) continuously variable transmission found in most of its competitors. You can upgrade to all-wheel drive, as a benefit to those in harsher climates. The gas Sonata comes in four trim levels with the base SE starting at $26,900 and topping out with the N Line at $35,500. That trim level gets the more powerful 290-hp 2.5-liter turbo four with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base engine and FWD offer an EPA-estimated 28 city, 38 highway, and 32 combined. By providing your email address, you agree that it may be used pursuant to Arena Group's Privacy Policy. We may receive compensation. The refresh across all trims last year gave the Sonata a bigger grille and a thin set of LED daytime running lights that sit atop the quad headlights. The cabin now features dual 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreens seamlessly integrated into a single curved display panel. The steering wheel sports a refreshed three-spoke design, while the gear selector has been relocated from the center console to a column-mounted rectangular knob found in other Hyundai models. The Sonata's base price undercuts both the Camry and the Accord, and Hyundai is offering a great lease deal in August that makes it even more appealing. 2025 Hyundai Sonata lease deal for August Hyundai is offering a great lease deal for August on the 2025 Hyundai Sonata SE for $259 per month for 36 months with $3,499 due at lease signing (excludes registration, tax, title, license, processing or documentation fees, insurance, and any emission charge). The offer is based on $3,499 due at lease signing (includes $259 first month's payment $3,240 capitalized cost reduction). No security deposit is required. Amount due excludes official fees, such as taxes, tags, license, and registration. The lessee is also responsible for insurance, maintenance, and repairs. There is a $400 disposition fee due at the end of the lease (except for CO, IN, IA, KS, ME, OK, SC, WI, WV, & WY, where the disposition fee is subject to the limitations of state laws). Mileage limit is 10,000 per year or 30,000 for the lease term. The lease offer ends September 2, 2025. Learn more here. It also comes standard with a tire pressure monitoring system. The 2025 Sonata also won the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating, making it one of the safest in the industry. Source: Hyundai The Sonata's total passenger volume is 104.4 cubic feet. The front row provides a whopping 46.1 inches of legroom, and the second row has 34.8 inches of legroom. The generous trunk provides 15.6 cubic feet of space, more than the Toyota Camry and the Subaru Legacy. Final thoughts The 2025 Hyundai Sonata may not sell as well as the Camry and Accord, but it's both more affordable and offers more front-row legroom than both of them. The Sonata is worth considering because it provides a wide range of standard features, and the August lease deal makes it even more appealing.
