Daryl Dike hurts thigh, latest setback for American forward on West Brom
The team said Friday that Dike was hurt in practice and will resume training after the international break in early September.
Dike ruptured right Achilles tendon against Stoke on April 15, 2023, and returned on Jan. 7, 2024, when he played the first half in an FA Cup match against Aldershot. He tore his left Achilles against Ipswich that Feb. 10, just five games after coming back.
Dike returned last Feb. 15 against Millwall in the first of 10 substitute appearances and started the season finale against Luton on May 3.
Dike joined West Brom from Major League Soccer's Orlando in January 2022.
He sustained a season-ending hamstring injury in his first start, against Peterborough on Jan. 22, 2022, and tore a thigh muscle in the 2022-23 opener against Stoke on July 30, 2022. He returned that Nov. 12 in West Brom's last game before the World Cup break, then tore his right Achilles tendon the following spring.
Dike has three goals in 10 appearances for the U.S.

Trump last week reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,' Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. The executive order also reinvigorated the national sports council that could have included Barkley. Barkley won AP Offensive Player of the Year last season after rushing for 2,005 yards, eighth-best in NFL history, in his first season with the Eagles. Barkley has golfed with Trump and former President Barack Obama over the last year and the running back attended the White House celebration of the champion Eagles while some teammates _ notably star quarterback Jalen Hurts — skipped the ceremony. Former SAG-AFTRA executive director David White named interim executive director of NFLPA
Former SAG-AFTRA executive director David White was elected interim executive director of the NFL Players Association on Sunday night. White replaces Lloyd Howell, who stepped down last month amid a series of revelations that created a distraction for the players' union. 'We have full faith in David to take the union forward and operate in the best interests of our membership,' NFLPA President Jalen Reeves-Maybin said in a statement. 'David has spent much of his career fighting for collectively bargained rights in the labor movement and is committed to putting players first in all the union does. We are confident that he will inspire solidarity and provide the necessary stability during this period of transition.' White was chosen among multiple internal and external candidates. A voting player representative from all 32 teams participated in the Board's vote, a person with knowledge of the details told The Associated Press. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the conversations were private, said the Board conducted interviews with each candidate over the last two weeks and the process was player-led and voted on by the Board. 'I am grateful to the NFLPA's player leadership for entrusting me with the privilege and responsibility to guide their union as interim executive director,' White said. 'It's a duty I do not take lightly, and I'm committed to re-establishing trust and ensuring the union is serving its members best. I look forward to working with the entire NFLPA team to protect players' health and safety, secure their financial well-being, and further strengthen their voice to shape their futures.'
